all the .exe files listed as secfile, the type cannot fix association; Vista
All .exe files are listed as type secfile on my daughter, running Vista laptop. When you try to open any executable file, an error message is received "application not found". I found several websites with the .reg files to fix the registry. The problem is that none of the methods to enter the registry editor I've tried have worked, because it is also an executable. I tried to reboot in safe mode to use the system restore and that will not open either.
Any suggestions?
Replying to myself because I found the answer elsewhere: the association for .exe files must be "exefile". "secfile" probably shouldn't exist, because nothing else seems to refer to it, but as I deleted the application there is probably no harm leaving.
So, for someone else in my situation, the solution is to assign to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe exefile.
If you do not have Open regedit, you can put this in a .reg file and double click it
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe]
@= "exefile".

Safe mode?
Looks like you have a virus/trojan/worm infection pretty good...
Actually, even if you get executables run again - you can be (read as "will be") better off the coast of a new facility. Wipe and install media with your product key and other serial numbers and installation for other products media you own and restore your last recognized reliable backup for your files.

All my .exe files will open in the same program, how can I solve this problem?
I double clicked a .exe program and she appeared with an error saying that it was not a correct path, so I right click on it hung over 'Open with' clicked "choose program by default" found and selected it clicked OK, and I don't see the "Always" use the selected program to open this type of file until after I clicked OK , but now all my .exe programs open the same and the .exe .lnk changed, I was about to restore my computer to the previous version, but none of them go back far enough, what should I do to cancel the default program?
Darn, I was hoping that the registry itself would correct after a reboot. I always try to this for you. Following is a somewhat similar to what was posted by hetti:
However, this does not mean you're going to in the registry. You create a file that will do the registry work for you. According to this link, the fixittool only works for Vista.Do you like try our suggestions. Let us know how it goes.Alamo_07 -

Lost all the games that came with vista
I have a Vista Home Premium on an HP laptop. Earlier this week free cell began acting strange, now I can not find my games in the Games folder. I looked at the other issue and followed the advice to ensure that the games have been checked (they are). I restored to a point when I knew that Free Cell worked properly for me (used a restore 4 days ago point: a system checkpoint). Also did a full restore of the computer about (because of driver problem with the touchpad) 8 days ago. I don't have a copy of vista, as the hp computer asks me to do the restore DVD.
On my other computer (built) that uses vista the same thing happened, a few days ago. I followed the advice on the forums. This time I unchecked the box features Windows, restarted, recheck the boxes and loaded the game from the disc, rebooted again, and they did not always show up.
I am running AV on the two computer (KASPERSKY), the laptop has no other third party programs other than the full restore hp programs, I have not loaded in the files (images, music, office files). The Office has a few games (lotro/ddo) and some third party programs (ccleaner, firefox, ventrio and Skype). All the software on both computers are updated, and Vista is updated to SP2.
I'm at a lost on what to do next.Hi RedRocket88,
Am really sorry to hear that the built-in games do not work.
Please, try the following steps:
1. click on the Start button
2. on the Start Menu, click all programs followed by accessories
3. in the menu accessories, right-click on command line option
4. in the drop-down menu that appears, click the "Run as Administrator" option.
5. in the command prompt window, type: sfc/scannow then press enter
Once its finished, restart the computer and check with the games, also try to reinstall them using programs and features and check what is happening.
Please get back to us if you need more help

Must select and change all the type is defined in a specific font
I'm working on my memory of brother-in-laws on the biology of the molecalar. It is very important in these types of documents, get all the names of some species and protein italicized. Unfortunately it manually set all those names in italics, instead of the use of character styles.
I need some way to be able to select any italicized and assign a character style. Because the way in which this document of his is at least 140 pages A4 and the subject matter is way, way, way over my head, I need a way to automate the process.
Y at - it a function or perhaps a script that automatically detects the type in a specific font and gives the possibility to assign a character style?
Thank you
I wrote a script to do exactly that - and replace all the exhibitors, indices, bold, bold italic, and a bunch more, with their Style of character equivalent. The script creates even all styles, that he needs.

Office supplies all the 'stuck' - cannot move them
all items on my desk are glued in place - they cannot be moved at all. they are arranged in a grid format, however all stuck.
all advice is appreciated on how to detach them from the grid. Thank you!
What happens when you try?
Check your preferences. If you chose for them to line up on the grid, they will be aligned, but you can rearrange them in different locations of grid. If you have, however, also selected to keep them in alphabetical order, any icon that you try to move break back to its 'clean' in the grid location.
