All Windows updates fail

Windows XP Pro SP3 with IE6

Some of the downloads fail to OK, some download, but even those who download fail to install.

Initially, it looks like a network problem. So thought that I'll take Windows Update out of the loop and manually download every day and install them one by one, but when I run the exe I get an an "Extraction has not - the invalid handle." This happens with all updates. All ideas and let me know any other features you need. Thank you

  • Windows update fails-G62-225DX - bad startup a factory?

My nephew came to me recently with a G62-225DX HP, concerned about safety.  Given this machine is several years old (recently handed down from his father - I quickly understood why), I was surprised to see she was always being basic Windows 7 Home Premium.  Without SP1.

My first attempt to resolve this was to run Windows Update - no luck - immediately fails with "cannot run - services is not started.  Of course, verification services, yes I see WU and BITS running.

So, like any good tech person, I check in the case where the logs and see various errors, including the constant complaints on the Crypto database being corrupted.

Then, up to be Googling for these symptoms/messages.  I see many people with the same problem and a lot of suggestions on how to fix this (re - reg WU, STRANDS of clear/reset, flush/empty C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution, catroot2 flush/empty, etc.).  Even seen one on the Intel hard drive problems due to replace it with a drive of more than 500 GB (this unit still has the original 320).

Spent hours trying all the suggestions there, especially when people said 'Yes, that fixed', nothing helps.

Since it was not something of value on this machine, I decide backup and restore "factory".

Imagine my surprise when, after reset of the image 'factory', it has exactly the same problem - Windows Update fails, out-of-the-box on the right!

I think to myself, it's crazy.  The machine is faulty from the start and everyone was naïve to not get Windows updates, AT ALL!

I even decided to try the Windows Update Checker (supposed to perform before installing SP1) and it fails with ' Windows Update Standalone install encountered and error - 0xc80000247 ".

So, I decided to run through the suggested fixes (from M$, no less) and all of a sudden, that Windows Update works.

I thought, it's fantastic.  He immediately calls to > 130 fixed critical.

After a few hours of download and installed, I restart only to get a BSOD - STOP 6 b - AAARRRGGGHHHH!  Tried to go through Windows restore previous checkpoint but that too fails with a mysterious error.  In addition, many Google hits on the 6 b says that it's a hardware problem.  But he was executed until the Windows update, with nothing in the case where newspapers to indicate hardware problems.

Then, I decided to do a restore from the image of what I started with.  At least it ran, even though she could not be updated.

I no longer dig and see a bunch of updates to the firmware/software for this machine, including the BIOS.  Even saw some strange 'Windows updates' HP.  I thought maybe it was something like the fiasco when the power management update for Intel processors had on machines AMD, thus paralyzing them!  Still nothing - WU still does not work!

Tried again to return to the original image, hoping that maybe to install all updates of office/hardware/driver on a virgin machine solve the problem.  Nope-WU still does not work.  Even went back through all the suggested fixed (saved as .bat files everthing).  Nothing, nada...

So, I'm posting here in hopes that someone has a miracle cure that I missed.

    Hello:

    I don't have a magic bullet...

The same thing happened to me while working on a friends HP 8100 Elite CMT, Windows 7 Pro, HP original image.

Would not install SP1 or Windows updates. I tried every trick in the book and after spending more than two hours, going nowhere, including restore from the recovery discs, I decided to install a plain OS W7 clean add drivers myself using the product key for W7 on the PC.

    It has worked well.

You can do the same thing if you can read the product key of W7 on the bottom of the laptop, and your nephew can't live without programs that was shipped with the PC.

In addition, if you format the drive and just install W7 on current partition, you can probably find the program of the installation files for the programs supplied with the PC in the SWSetup folder.

Here's how to do when you don't have installation of W7 media.

Use the installation of Windows 7 USB/DVD tool to compile the ISO file that you download from Digital River. The link below. You need a DVD or a 4 GB flash drive using the USB compilation method.

Use the product key of windows 7 of 25 characters to activate your installation.

    http://download.CNET.com/Windows-7-USB-DVD-download-tool/3000-18513_4-10972600.html

Then go to the support of the PC and driver page to install the drivers you need.

Link to downloads ISO of W7 is below. Download the Windows 7 version that is on your product (Home Premium, professional or ultimate) key to apply.

I have THREE questions which PEUVENT all be linked togther... What do you think?

[I am slot as Windows 7 Ultimate (free upgrade to Dell PC w/purchase) on a Dell 64 bit PC XPS435]
I've upgraded from Vista about 3 weeks ago.

#1 - Two weeks ago I had a problem with the installation of Nero/LiquidTV-TiVo to my PC... (this is also when the problem started).
To get the "Nero" thing figured out, I took the advice of someone on the Forum/Blog of Nero. The person has provided a lenghty explanation how to uninstall LiquidTV completely by removing the registry files... I don't really know what I'm doing in the registry, but everything that I helped my problem of Nero, but I couldn't tell you WHAT I deleted OR if I have deleted any bad subfolders or whatnot!... the next time I started my PC is when the NEW NUMBER is right.

#2 - On my next BOOT, Windows Update has found an IMPORTANT update:

A security update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 for x 64 systems (KB954430)

.. .and it fails every time, it tries to install saying this:

    Windows Update - failed

Code 643 Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

"Get help with this error" provides little or no help... but it says this:
     "WindowsUpdate_00000643" "WindowsUpdate_dt000"

All the research I did, the problem seems to be with Microsoft .NET Framework... .and all the solutions I found talking about it, "UNINSTALL all THE .NET FRAMEWORK & REINSTALL" ... I tried and there is no .NET Frameworks listed in Add/Remove, and when I press on ' VIEW INSTALLED UPDATES'... " on my PC it says, "no updates are installed on this computer"... what the _____?

#3 - Today, I thought I would just pop the WINDOWS 7 installation disc and do a repair/upgrade... It will not be upgraded.
He cycles most of the way through, then he Has STOPPED and says this:

The following problems prevent upgrade Windows. Cancel the upgrade, perform each task, (it lists only a SINGLE task), and then restart the upgrade to continue.

    • Windows needs to be restarted if necessary to system files can be changed before you continue.

Does not help restart. He tried 3 times and he ends up doing the same thing.
Is it possible I deleted something out of the register so far here and which is cause of all this?
If so, is it possible to fix WITHOUT doing a new install of Windows 7?
OR... anything can be a problem... Please HELP!

(And please note: I am a first year student college with specialization in computer science... but I just started last semester, so I don't know what I should... yet. - though, I SHOULD have known better than to mess with the registry!) My bad).

Thanks a lot for your time in advance, and I look forward to hear from you!  VikeMike4

I would like to have instructions step by step on how to obtain this update to install correctly.

    Thank you

    ===============

Step #1 => foremost, note what version of .NET Framework is installed:

How to determine what version of the .NET Framework is installed and determine whether the service packs have been applied
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/318785

Step #2-online now see resolution method 2 in...

When you try to install an update for .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 or 3.5, you may receive Windows Update '0 x 643' error code or error code Windows Installer '1603' (ignore the title, if necessary)
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/923100

After running the tool that is appropriate and necessary, (re) install all versions of the .NET Framework (but the ones you noted in #1 above) manually using the download links on the page, and then run Windows Update manually install security updates for same.

NB: If you remove the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 by using the tool, reinstall .NET Framework 3.5 will also install .net Framework 2.0 SP2 and 3.0 SP2. Then, Windows Update will offer .NET Framework 3.5 SP1.

IMPORTANT! =>, If you remove the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, reinstall your version of .NET Framework in the following order:

    1. the .net framework 3.5, then...
    2 .net framework 1.1, then...
    3 .net framework 1.1 SP1

NB: KB923100 makes reference to this page: http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/05/30/611355.aspx.  Please read ALL as well as the related http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/pages/8904493.aspx before using the .NET Framework cleanup tool.

Step #3 => Check-in at Windows Update and install the critical updates of security offered.

    The other post:

Thank you for your reply - but the problem persists - this is mopre complete info.
The system starts well and runs - BUT I cannot now be updated because when I access "Windows Update" it always returns this error message.
Also, none of the messages in your "appliesto" step 2 recommended link will be applied effectively.
As far as I know - we have a standard system and I just ran again ONCE a full system virus etc check - all clean.
Also your "Mr Fixit" was performed several times, but nothing changes.
Because it enters the update process, and then always closes with this specific message (which as I said is NOT in your list of error messages), which SHOULD tell your software writers where is the problem.
This is what is happening in the process of updating before it fails:
    Keep your computer up-to-date
Check to see if you need updates for Windows, your programs, your hardware or your devices.

Get updates of high priority (recommended)

Select among the priority and optional updates for Windows and other programs

... and it does not matter if I say "express" or "custom" - headed then:

Checking for updates for your computer...

but fails after a few seconds with the same message as follows:

Since it is a Dell computer, chances are a Norton or McAfee free trial is preinstalled. When you have done the clean install, the free trialware would have ALSO reinstalled (but not valid now).  Let's see if the execution of two removal tools & a few tweaks resolves the behavior.

[You can print these instructions for reference offline. [If a step said to restart, restart! ]

    1. click right on the following link to download the Norton removal tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

  • Windows Update failed - error 0 x 80070643 for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 4 (KB2463332)

Original title: Windows Update Failed - need help

Vista 32 Ultimate with all updates, until this one: update Windows failed: error 0 x 80070643 for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 4 (KB2463332). Update has failed repeatedly.  I tried to restart, remove the update (even by deleting the file so it would download it again) and install again.  Nothing has worked.  Error 80070643.  Since it is not Office 2003, the error seems to mean a problem with the Windows .NET framework.  Don't know what that means.

Looking at KB976982, I tried to fix MSI software update registration corruption issues (whatever that means) by running the automated Fix It by KB971187. Restarted, I tried Windows Update again.  Still didn't update.

Then, I waited two days and tried again.  Even that did not help.

I tried bypassing Windows Update simply by downloading and then run the file SQLEXPR32.exe from Microsoft downloads. Did not work at all. I then tried to run it as an administrator (even if it was already an administrator account, with no other account on this computer at all).  He started to run and then gave me the following error message: unable to run the SQL Server System Configuration Checker due configulation WMI on the computer.  Error: 70347 (0x112cb).

Now I'm really confused.  On the one hand, 80070643 means I probably repair the .NET framework, which certainly, I hate to do because I need several versions of the .NET framework first uninstall and then try to install the compmonents, and I'm afraid something would go wrong.

On the other hand, the 70347 (0x112cb) error message seems to indicate the problem is completely different and has to do with WMI, which probably has to do with permissions and I have no idea how to solve this problem.  (And why it all of a sudden would be any problem with permissions?)  This computer is not on a corporate network and has only one user account, the administrative account).  I have looked at Services and Applications in computer management, where there are WMI control, but nothing shown that I can possibly change and not the SQL Server Configuration Manager under it, which doesn't seem to have much either.

    Help!  Please...

And now I also tried to fix it, just in case where, the .NET framework (Panel > programs and features > Microsift.NET framework Client profile 4 > uninstall/change > fix it), and the Windows Update tried again (including reboot).  Still no.  Everything I try, it is not to do nothing, pardon my language.  People smarter than me, pleasehelp!

  • Windows Update fails, laptop breaks down at the restart, Windows 7

I had to buy a new drive hard laptop to my Toshiba Satellite after the first one stopped working. I reinstalled Windows 7 and did all the required Windows updates. So I wonder to restart, as usual, and I do. The problem is, when it gets to the point where the laptop screen goes black, and it should restart, is not. It is just a black screen, no response to the pressing movement or the key of the mouse. I know that the laptop is still technically because that light on is still green. I let him sit there for at least an hour, but nothing happened. Then I had the power button to turn off the laptop completely, he did and he turned his back. The laptop then turns and begins to set up the Windows updates, but it fails. After that I can log into the computer, and I can see that the Windows updates fails. Now, I have done this several times and sometimes the windows updates will succeed, but every time the laptop computer fails to restart correctly, and when I turn it off and turn it back on, he always tells me that Windows updates fail to configure. The last group of Windows updates I tried to do, they all failed to do.

I just looked at the history of updates to Windows, and these are updates that failed

Each update for Windows 7 for x 64 systems.

Daily security for Windows 7 for x 64 EXCEPT KB3035126 systems.

Each Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 security update

And each update Cumulative security for Internet Explorer 11

The only consistently successful updates have been

Update definition for Microsoft Security Essentials

Updates and security for Microsoft Office updates

and x 64 Windows malicious software removal tool

My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite C655D, it runs Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit (6.1, Build 7601), my processor is an AMD C-50 processor 1.GHz, I got 3072 MB of RAM, and my graphics card is an AMD Radeon HD 6250 graphics card. If you need further information, I will provide it to you. Thanks in advance for any help provided. I appreciate it.

    Hello

Disable the antivirus and install updates, see if that helps.

Note: Please activate antivirus as soon as you check the issue.

If the previous step fails, perform a upgrade in Place (repair install).

How to perform an upgrade on the spot on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 & Windows Server 2008 R2

Note Run a repair installation will not damage files and applications that are currently installed on your computer.

    Thank you.
