Alternative to the QuickTime Animation - alpha channel & small size?

  • I am looking for a replacement for the Animation QT codec I used to use for video files with a channel alpha on a Windows System.

  • Apple QuickTime does not support Windows more and I'm scratching my head to find a good video intermediate container/codec that takes in charge graphic overlays alpha channels.  I'm looking for something that implements a clip of 10 minutes gradually around 1 or 2 gigs or less.  Compression is acceptable.   I reuse these overlays on each video that I exported and found there was a reduction of duration important export RGBA images rather than dynamic links to After Effects.

  • My best guess is to use JPEG 2000 level 1 in one. Enveloping MXF?   Any other suggestions or ideas?
  • JPEG 2000 lvl1 I get an error in the first when importing JPEG 2000 MXFs, but somehow from one day to the next the error disappeared.  The 10 minute file moved to 976 326 KB which is ~1.5 GB smaller than the Animation QT codec. He use that throughout.
  • I tried the PNG sequence, and it was the smallest (I think), but it cannot be contained in a single file, it is unusable in our workflow.
  • I tried the Targa sequence, which was a lot more big 34 k vs 8, 000 k.
  • I tried the GoPro Cineform, which although is listed as QT always worked without QT installed.  It worked fine, but the files turned out to be astronomical in size and much larger than QT Animation.
  • I tried DNxHD, but the files are too big, and I have found no RGBA option to export even if takes care of the format specification.
  • I tried AVI (uncompressed), wow.  File size would have taken a hard disk video sequence.

Thanks for the help and suggestions, if someone reads this knows a better way, please share.

  • export the video with alpha channel

    Hello

I am brand new with Pro CC first. I completed a sequence where V1 has a series of still images, of small size, so I can see the video clip on the V2 in the background.

I already exported only and it works very well.

I would now like to export the clip on V1 by single with alpha channel so that I could put a different background in a new sequence.

Read and followed the instructions as described in the forum, but they must use something different than what I use (first Pro CC on a laptop with windows 7 Professional), because I do not see the indicated settings.

Once the clip is exported with an Alpha channel, I'll bring Premier Pro and everything just change the background several times so I will gradually in with several different sequences.

How could I accomplish this export with an Alpha channel?

    Thanks for the info.

    Bert

    Hi Bert,.

I think you have your tracks reversed, the stills would be on background on V1 and V2. Of course, if a SINGLE export with alpha and no background, then you can simply use V1 (but later, we clip you made must be V2 or higher to insert background on a bottom rail to show areas of the alpha channel). Export using QuickTime > GoPro 12-bit with Alpha codec.

  • Quicktime MOV alpha channel

    Hi all.

I made on a 3D logo in 3D for a quicktime movie program and had put my background on the rendered file to be a transparent alpha channel. Once I import MOV 3D logo in first elements, add to my calendar, choose picture, choose alpha set I expect there will be a selection to use the alpha channel so that background goes out to reveal the clip below.

Nope. He did give me a slider to set the alpha that disappears the entire clip and the 3D logo fades as well. I don't understand!

In first pro demo all I had to do was put the 3D MOV in the timeline, check that I wanted to use the clips alpha and bingo! The background is off to reveal the clip below. Simple.

Where is this setting in the elements? Support with built in alpha channels quicktime movies?

Chroma keying is not an option because the 3D logo has many shades of colors.

Any who found the option for this or know of a workaround?

If your program's output and MOV with true alpha channel, you will not have to key to all of this.

The transparent areas will all be simply transparent. I do it all the time with the video of After Effects.

  • mac NBA preview and/or finder icon normal when the file has alpha channels

When I save a file, the psd or tiff in photoshop cs5, the icon from the finder or the preview icon shows only a mask, and occ displays no icon. the file itself always seems very well.

Use imac, i7, 10.6.8 but it happened with prev snow leopard, as well.

only today I realized that this behavior is always associated with at least an alpha channel in the file.

I trashed PS prefs several times and once, finder preferences to no avail. I know it's weird and probably irrelevant, but I fear that this may indicate a scandal delayed.

    Thanks for any help.

Yes, it is a known bug in parsing code (as well as many others) from the files of Apple.

Apple has not bypassed to fix it again (but they fixed some of those related to 10.6).

  • Update the clips with Alpha channel does not work after August 2016

It's really random, I have a bunch of Silhouettes of Motion Designer of Digital Juice in my current project, and after the last update, none of them appear in the monitor of the composition. The clips are still there. Nothing is changed. But none of the Silhouettes. They are Quicktime video files with alpha and have the silhouette of a person to perform various tasks.

They are not involved in After Effects and first.

I have also a few clips with alpha explosion on my calendar. Those who still work, but they are not as vivid and intense as they were before the update.

Help? All advice would be much appreciated.

  • Photoshop CS6 using javaScript to truncate the name of the alpha channel

    Hello

I am a production artist and I work with PSD files created in Adobe Scene7's Image Authoring Tool. These PSD files contain a background as well as the alpha 1-20 layers layer. My script should make a new empty layer for each alpha channel in the document. He then fills the new grey layer. So far, my code accomplishes this mission. However, I would like to apply the alpha channel of the layer name, but I need the name will be truncated. Each alpha channel begins with one or more characters, followed by a bar backslash and then ends with one or more characters. Here is an example:

An alpha channel can be named: Floor\floor

In this example, I need my name of layer to be fair: floor. This means that all characters to the left of the backslash, including the backslash itself needs to be scrapped. I used the subSring() for this statement. When I try to step through the code line by line in ExtendScript, I immediately get an error that says no complete string constant and line 31 of my code is highlighted. I think that he doesn't like the way I wrote the backslash character, although I have it surrounded by double quotes to define it as a string.

Can someone tell me why I get this error?

Here is my code with a lot of comments to guide you through the process. I wrote where the error occurs in red characters.

I'm new to JavaScript, so I'm not sure that my while loop is accurate.

  • Alpha channel / Media encode a Question

    Hi all

I have a question that I think is just something that I'm on. I have a comp with a logo. The logo is made up of various files and has no experience. Third, it is very similar to a lower. When I make it on at AE through the rendering that I have no problem and the Alpha channel works as expected when they are imported into the BODY. The setting I use is QuickTime > Animation > RGB + Alpha, etc.

This morning I decided I wanted to start rendering through Media Encoder. I watched that video Colin Smith has done a fight a year ago to refresh my memory.

I pulled the top of Media Encoder, dragged my logo in MY computer and everything seemed to be going beautifully. I chose QuickTime > Animation codec > etc.

However, when you import the file into the BODY the Alpha channel did not. Where the Alpha channel is supposed to be the play as video black BODY. I went back to ME and double checked all the settings. I don't see anywhere in ME where you can specify an Alpha channel as you can in AE when you specify "RGB + Alpha".

Is there a setting in ME to activate/read the alpha channel that I'm missing? I really want to use me for future renditions of model of AE, but unless I can work around the problem of Alpha channel I will not be able to.

    CS6 all to date

Win Vista (not that I think that any question of specifications of system in this case).

    Thank you in advance,

    Shane

Of the SOUL, add the file to the render queue and click on either the codec or preset to open After Effects export settings. Video basic settings by selecting a 32 bit depth will allow the alpha layer. If you use a 10-bit codec or higher, set the depth of 64-bit.

Either by the way, have you thought about dynamic link from Premiere Pro to After Effects file? It eliminates the need for an intermediate file and maintains a depth of bit up to 32bpc.

  • How to use a black and white AVI as an alpha channel?

Brand new first CC 2015 user here (actually just a user first brand new total), with what is probably a very simple question:

How can I take a clip in black and white and get the Premiere Pro to use as a mask in alpha channel?

Basically, I got three items I want to composite together, each of them their own separate AVI:

    (1) a coin of spinning

    (2) a silhouette of the spinning coin

    (3) a movement background

The animations of the rotation of the piece were made by Bryce 7.1, if this can help, a program that does not know how to incorporate animations alpha channel masks.  I call the "silhouette" as such because it is a completely white room version, turning on a totally black background - perfect for use as an alpha channel, but without the alpha channel information incorporated.  And no matter what I do, I'm not the first to recognize it as such.  Any help would be appreciated.

Put the background on the V1.

Thread the room spinning V2, directly above him.

Put the Silhouette of the coin spinning on V3, just above (and in sync with) V2.

Go to the control panel effects and go to Video Effects > Keying and select the overlay Cache Track effect. Drag it to and apply it to the room turns on V2.

A once applied, click the clip on V2 to select and go in the effect controls panel.

Click the triangle next to the overlay track matte value using Composite matte Luma and the Matte of Video 3. Check the box opposite if necessary to invert the matte.

  • How to set alpha channel names in a format plugin?

I am writing a plugin to format with 6 aircraft of color to CMYK mode. I want to put the apha channel names for aircraft 5 and 6 of 'White' and 'Clear' instead of ' Alpha 1 "and" Alpha 2 "when I read the color of my file data." How to define the names of alpha channel?

One possibility would be to write an automation plugin that listens to your event to 'open' the file format, and then changes the names of channel for you. See the examples of plugin TextFormat TextAutomation.

  • How to set a solid as the Alpha channel?

    Hi all

At my wits end on this.  Seems to be a basic after effects thing, but I can't find seem to find the answer online or on these forums.  Maybe I'm he read the wrong way.  Well, here we go anyway...

A layer inside my computer is a solid red.  This solid has a mask on it, while the visible part is only a red circle.

Now all I want to do is tell AE that when it restores this model as a QT Animation, the solid red is the alpha channel.  Seems simple enough, right?  What is the right way to do it?

    Thank you!

As you may have guessed, it's easy and you will find that you use much - basicallly, whenever you want to hide something, but not a not the mask move with the layer...

    The solution:

First of all, make sure you have column mattes expanded on the timeline (small box below on the left mask/shows this).  Place solid directly above the layer you want to mat (if you have a lot of layers, you precomp it).

Then, on your layer of film (below the solid), the value of the Alpha cache - which will be Matt on this layer based on the alpha of the layer above it.

Alternatively, you can use an effect, in my view, that is define Matte, and then select the matte layer.

A method other than Milenium often mentions, but I've never used is to assign the matte layer silohuette alpha - I think the mat layer must be defined as an adjustment layer.

  • Smaller files with an alpha channel

I made a short video file in After Effects with an alpha channel of several different ways, but I can't to it go below 3 GB. Is it possible to get the smaller file without reducing the quality or the size of the composition? I would like to get the smaller file size to put in the cloud for use in a group project, and / 3GB is not really all that big a file, I have several files with an alpha channel that others need to access.

The smallest file size with an alpha channel that is always the production quality would be a QuickTime JPEG 2000. Set the quality to about 85 to 90%.

  • The alpha channel of delivery images - is there a standard?

I need to provide a logo in 3D with alpha channel of a television station local to a customer and of thought, I would like to ask if there is a standard for this?

I suspect Apple .mov is likely but as a windows user, I never use but have no problem with it.

For lossless I use "UT Video Codec", it's free, fast, and I had good results.  I don't KNOW if I book in this format, it will cause a problem for the other end... call it a hunch.

Call the station.  Ask for technical service.  They will tell you, you can ask on the tray, codec, frame rate more horizontal & vertical resolution.

Now, if he came to MY station, I would accept 1280 x 720, 59,94 FPS, quicktime movies in the Animation codec, with a straight line (i.e. NOT premultiplied) alpha channel.  Stereo audio.

  • Alpha channel renders in preview, but not in the exported file.

I have a pronounced After effects with Animation codec quicktime video that has an alpha channel.  Looks great play on the timeline in the first cc2014, but when exporting the layer alpha is made black.  I did exactly the same thing several times in previous versions of first without problem.  Is this a known issue with the first?  Is there another way to do that properly renders Media Encoder?

It is a remake of an old video from SD card HD.  So, all this has been done before with success.  Why does cc_2014 not make it properly?

    Thank you.

Problem solved.  I closed the first and Media Encoder and then reopened them and they made the alpha channel properly.

  • Basics of the alpha channel of Canon 7 d video

Maybe I'm missing something basic here, as I am fairly new to play with alpha in VIDEO layers/channels. Otherwise, I have a pretty good understanding of the alpha when it comes to photos, animations, etc.ffects

I'm doing the black in a video of a few flames in an alpha channel, so I can use them in the form of particles in After Effects.

    (like in this video http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorial/green_smoke/ ( )

I understand the restrictions codec/format for alpha channels, but the problem is that I can't get the black to come out at all as an alpha channel.

I have tried Quicktime with no codec and FLV and other formats that are supposed to support alpha channels.

According to me, what is the problem is format that shoots in the Canon does not have an alpha channel in native mode to export the video in different formats is not having an effect. If this is the case, how should we do the dark parts of a video in an alpha channel.

I know there are ways to make green in a channel alpha (filtering). I can't for the life of me figure out how to get scars OR Prime Minister to acknowledge the black straight as an alpha channel however.

I watched a few 30 tutorials trying to understand this point, but it seems that I am unable to ask the right question to get the answer I want.

    videoalphas.jpg

    There are the export parameters.

Perhaps someone can point out my gross missunderstanding of what I'm trying to make, or otherwise put me on the right track.

Here's a clip of in aftereffects, the arrow shows that the clip has properties alpha... I think, but when I turn off the alpha channel EVERYTHING disappears.
I have to d something in the aftermath?  I don't know, I'm lost.

    videoalphas.jpg

If anyone thinks they can help I'm willing to do a youtube video showing what I do.

PP will never recognize black as an alpha channel.  You have to eliminate the black using the Luma key.  As long as it has nothing else underneath, which retired black will be encoded as an alpha transparency.

  • Good NON-animation codec with alpha channel?

I'm looking for something that will give good resolution without strapping or artifacts in the transparent areas. The animation is too large in file size to use.

I have 720 p images, and I tried the DNxHD codec to 110mbit 29.97 10 bit, but I still get bands.

I have try the 59.97 220mbit 10 bit and who looks better, but it's the wrong frame rate.

Any thoughts on a good codec with decent size that has a good representation of the alpha channel?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding of the pace thing.

When I go to an animation of 90fps (in the model fps game) motion graphics effects with 720 p 220 DNxHD codec 59,94 10 bit, quicktime shows I'm replaying to 90 frames per second. So that means when the codec says it's for 59.94?

The PNG codec to highest quality is also a codec lossless, like Animation. That's what I use in QuickTime containers when I want to preserve the alpha channel for intermediate files between post-production applications. For photo-realistic images, the size of the files tend to be half of what you get with Animation.
