Amount of free space

Hi all

I have a SQL Server on a volume that has 184 GB free on a total of 1 TB.  I need to add an additional 150 GB for the VM disk, but did not really want to have to create a new data store, because there are currently on a replicated mirror.  Since it is a SQL Server, we do not take the shots, so I wonder, should I simply create the disk 150 GB and that I must have a lot of free space on this data store?

According to storage, you might be able to use the feature of grow - discover p.117 of

http://pubs.VMware.com/vSphere-50/topic/com.VMware.ICbase/PDF/vSphere-ESXi-vCenter-Server-501-storage-Guide.PDF

for the procedure.

I did it without problem, many times, but the standard backup warnings apply whenever you make such changes.

  • to know the amount of free space in a tablespace

    Hello

I'm learning to oracle 9i release 9.2.0.1.0. I had created a tablespace 'TOOLS' to use the default tablespace for Statspack.
I would like to know the amount of free space available in this table space. To do this, I ran the following query, but there was no selected lines:-

    SQL > select tablespace_name, bytes from dba_free_space
    2 where nom_tablespace = 'TOOLS. '

    no selected line

    SQL > select name from v$ tablespace;

    EXAMPLE OF
    INDX

Can someone say the reason for this.

Strange that the difference of 0.625 MB does not appear in free_space...
But anyway, this tablespace is good as COMPLETE.

Personally, I would be interested to see what disk management says on the disc. Right click on my computer > choose manage. In the left pane, click "disk management". The content will grow in the right pane. Make a written note or a screen shot showing both used and free space.

  • take the amount of free space between other volumes

Hi all, my C drive has 1% left, while my E drive has 29,42 GB and my Fdrive GB 58.69.   I need to renew my Norton 360 in a few days, so it's urgent. Can I easily increase my primary volume to steal say 30 GB of my disk f. - F disk is used, is only 1%. I am concerned about the loss of data to play with these things. Is it a simple question or better left to the experts? It would be useful to have these skills to help other friends of the PC. Kind regards. Ty

    Hi Ty46,

    ·         How long have you been faced with this problem?

    ·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

I suggest to perform disk clean up and then check disk space on each disk.

You can also take backup of data in the C: drive & move it to some other patition.

It is not possible to extend the C: drive.

  • Can I use Partition 'free space '?

I was showing a couple of PDFs in preview during execution of Safari - with maybe 5 or 6 tabs open - listen to Spotify when I got this message:

(at the time wherever I took the screenshot I had stopped already Safari and Spotify):

I was very surprised to see because when I formatted my 1 TB SSD I made to allocate approximately 15 - 20% 'Space' to be free, because I have read several times that you should never completely fill to the top of your player. Then, I checked my storage:

I found it very odd that I'd only 78GB left because I knew I had at least 130 GB of free, I keep an eye close enough on my storage space.  I restarted the computer and I checked my storage once again, and magically it appeared as it should:

As you can see, the total disk space is 819,36 GB. The rest of the 1 TB is the Partition of 'Free space', I created when I formatted the disk.  When I've been formatting, I noticed the option to format as 'Free space', so I assumed it was the opportunity for anyone who took the advice that you should always allocate space of 15 to 20%.  I don't know if the warning mentioned previously is related to this, but whatever it is, I had the bad idea to create literally score "Free space" while trying to keep my healthy HDD by overloading her not?  Should I just hang out my main partition in disk utility to use the 'free space' now and just keep an eye on how I use?

Yes, you did. You must leave this amount of free space on the boot instead of leaving no partition allocated.

I have three apps that are not up-to-date. They is xfinity account, Star walk & MS OneNote. I clicked on them and they start then stop immediately. I rebooted my phone twice. Still no change. I have to reset it to factory and start over?

Title of your post says you have 700 MB of free space on your iPhone.  It is a small amount of free space!  You need a lot more free space for your iPhone work properly.

Go to settings > General > storage & use iCloud > Storage manage and release at least 1 GB of additional storage (if not more).

  • Amount of disk space available on the disk hard keeps fluctuating.

I have a Compaq CQ2103WM-B desktop running Windows XP, hard disk Go 139.  I started to receive notices of high memory use, began to receive notices of disk space is low. I ran the cleaning disc several times, it has been very slow, constantly showing only 2 bars, sometimes for hours. He finally released the space and I have deleted several programs and files, emptied the trash. After a few minutes the amount of free space started going down again. For several days, I kept repeating this process, but keep decreases the amount of free space on the disk. Now, it fluctuates to the amount of free space on the disk every few minutes. I downloaded and ran CCleaner, it frees up space and again it has disappeared in a few minutes. He got so low that I can't watch videos, use system restore, download other software or software upgrades (like Norton), cannot download pictures from my camera or save files in programs such as Corel Draw. Right now is 3.97 MB free space, he went down in the KBs, sometimes it goes up, but it changes even if I do nothing. I scanned for viruses and malware, Norton managed to reach space, but it lasted only a few minutes. I don't know anything else to try. Would it be a software problem, the malware that Norton cannot detect, the hardware, or if my system has been hacked and someone uses free space on my computer? Any information would be appreciated.

In disk clean up, look for the button "other options" above I think it is, go to the

  • How to find the largest contiguous free space in windows xp

Hi, I have two machines, one running Win7, XP running.  I know how my highest contiguous free space is great under w7, using "defrag c: - one" in a prompt "administrator-started":

    C:\Windows\System32>defrag c: - one
    Microsoft Disk Defragmenter
    Copyright (c) 2007 Microsoft Corp.

    The operation completed successfully.

    Post report of defragmentation:

    Volume information:
    Volume size = 283,40 GB
    Space free = 60.49 GB
    Fragmented space total = 0%
More large size of free space = 46,29 GB

But, by using the same command in XP does not have the same statistics (I tried 'defrag c: - a - v' for a detailed report, but it does not always give this stat.)  Anyone know how to find out what is the largest contiguous amount of free space on a XP computer?

  • Run Disk Defragmenter has released more than 30 GB of free space!

I'm not used to run Disk Defragmenter Windows very often, but in recent weeks I have been through the very large import of my cd collection process on iTunes. My 'C' drive has a capacity of 222GB and I was at 9.68 GB of free space. I ran WDD but after 18 hours, he had still not finished! So I decided to cancel defragmentation, and after checking my 'C' drive, I found to my great astonishment that I now had 42.8 GB of free space! Then, I downloaded the DiskDefrag Auslogics free and running. She performed in a few minutes and showed the Windows defragmentation had done most of the work but for some reason any had not finished. Anyone know why?

I have decided to disabled Windows Defrag and will use in the future, the Auslogics version he gives information about the status of the defragmentation and seems to be much more effective and faster.

However, I am very surprised by the amount of free space that freed the defragmentation process. I searched on various forums of pc and other posters have said the complete opposite to my own experience. The common consensus seems to be that defraging reduces the amount of free space on a drive rather than increase it!

There also seems to be a difference of opinion on the amount of free space should be left on a hard drive to allow the computer to function effectively. I was a little more than 4% before I defragmented but I saw messages advising that we should let betweeen 10% and up to 50% (which seems to me to be silly!)

I would be grateful for any help anyone can give me, in particular, why the defragmentation released (in my case) as much free space.

A common mistake in logic. You assume that two things are related, because they are close in time.

Defrag does not change the amount of disk space. It only increases or decreases the free space or used.

Windows defragmentation runs every three days and optimizes the program and load the system boot. This is not controllable. It is also not a defragmentation of data file.

Using another Defragmenter will fight with Windows.

NTFS (and FAT32) resist fragmentation. Most fragmented files are log files and will fragment 1 second after defragmentation.

Windows only writes files where there are a lot of space to write prevention of fragmentation. Do not fragment the files that do not change. Disk cache makes the fragmentation irrelevent.

Any recommendation on the free space are based on the best estimate on the way an average person uses a computer. Lack of free space does not work computer until it has zero. However, most people like to save their work and some Windows watchdog is going spastic, just before that you can't do anything.

As to why you have noticed a change in the use of the disc.

    1. system restore - this could be it.

2 disk Cleanup - it will take place in itself is space is extremely low

3 log files are created, deleted, written, etc.

    4. Windows automatically repairs physical disk errors. If defrag was having problems, you can check there is no car repair files.

It's a way see what may have disk operations occurred.

Start - All Programs - Accessories - right on command prompt and choose run as administrator. Type (or copy and paste by clicking in the command prompt window and choose Paste).

    change c:\bootex.log

What is this file exist with something in it?

The following commands query the event logs.

To start verification by using the name of the source for any version of Windows (because it varies).

WMIC /append:"%userprofile%\desktop\DiskEvents.html" PATH Win32_NTLogEvent where (sourcename = "Autocheck" or sourcename = 'Winlogon' or sourcename = "WinInit") get format:HForm

    To run chkdsk in Windows.

WMIC /append:"%userprofile%\desktop\DiskEvents.html" PATH Win32_NTLogEvent where (sourcename = "Chkdsk") to / format: HForm

For warnings about disk problems detected during normal operations and automatic repairs by Windows at the time where the problems were discovered.

WMIC /append:"%userprofile%\desktop\DiskEvents.html" PATH Win32_NTLogEvent where (sourcename = "NTFS" or Sourcename = 'Disc') to / format: HForm

  • What is the free space in Vista variant of +/-50 GB?

Last night when I went to bed my system reported that I had 60 GB free. This afternoon, he pointed out that I have more than 111 GB of free. I have not emptied the trash, run Disk Cleanup, installed updates (it is set to "notify me but do not install" after this update in the fall of 2009, which made me unable to get on the internet) or anything that could justify such a wide gap.
Accustomed to the amount of free space fluctuating by the swap file systems, I'm my system has only 6 GB RAM and what I have observed, I rarely fully used that. I expect a variance of + / 12 GB or more, not 50 GB.

Is it normal for Vista 64-bit home premium with AVG free or is something current weird that I should try to trace? I only noticed because I knew I had to free 20 GB (probably more like 30-40) for a 580 GB partition on a drive of 500 GB of images and was preparing to move some installers downloaded from CDs and DVDs.

When you open Treesize scan select in the Menu and you will see a list of drives. Click on C and it will generate a list of files. Display names and 6 larger files sizes and the total at the top of the list.

To reconcile Treesize figures with the size of a partition (or drive), you must make allowances according to this formula:
Partition C + folder System Volume Information + Free space + file compression gain = ability to drive or partition

To determine the size of the System Volume Information folder, select Start, Control Panel, system, System Protection, click Configure under Protection settings. What is the figure of the current use?

  • 10g reclaim free space

    Hello

I would like to make a few space optimization in Oracle 10.2 data.

Select sum (bytes) / 1024/1024/1024 dba_segments; give me 26.2 GB

Select sum (bytes) / 1024/1024/1024 of dba_data_files; gives me 43.9 GB

Select sum (bytes) / 1024/1024/1024 dba_free_space; gives me 17.5 GB

So I would get 17.5 GB unused disk space.

I can't use Segment space Adviser due to lack of license.

What is the best way to identify 'bad' TABLES/INDEX objects that are the best candidates for the SHRINK operation.

I know that I have free unused space in the DB, but now I am only able to find storage space of (from dba_free_space) who have an amount of free space. I don't know how to find specific TABLES/INDEXES with the wasted space.

  • Failed to start the export. 6.53 in addition, GB of free space is required on e:\exports\sbs01.export---> Replay.Core.Contracts.Export.ExportException: cannot run an export job

    Thus,.

We had a server running gladly watch exports virtual Hyper-V, and then abruptly stopped, export and complaining saying she needed of more space to complete.

Drive E had about 30 GB free (at the time) and the incremental backups between work and default were about 2 GB.

I have since deleted the virtual Eve, because sometimes I saw Appassure get confused and rather than wait for a response from support (see below), I did export it to create a new.

It says that I need 26 GB of free disk so cannot start.  I mounted the backup from before she failed and after and they have the same size, in fact, some readers have less actual data on them.

I realize file sizes don't equate to blocks used, however, as mentioned above, between work / failing the differential was 2 GB and export in car had even 30 GB free.

I have updated the patch 3 to see if it was a hidden problem, it wasn't

    Guess the questions are

    1. No idea why this happened?
    2. She always thin build records to export.

The Source data used is less than the amount of space available, however the sizes the drive on the source server is greater (again, no change between work & fail)

I have an open ticket, has a status of waiting for me, can't see why he's waiting for me that I have not asked anything, but guess it helps ALS

so it turns out that the real reason, that it was a failure was due to running sums.  Basically, when you get a combination you find yourself with a greater differential earlier in the chain but after base was taken.

Since the amount of free space must be sufficient for the largest differential and that the area has increased just here a potential requirement for base images to take

That said, there is a fix to try, I took a new base image before I could deploy I need virtual Eve work

  • ESX brings more free space than does SAN

I have a student who has an ISCSI SAN Dell EqualLogic PS400E and ESX 3.5i servers using VMware software initiator. They observed that formatted with the VMFS LUNS show different amounts of free space if you view ESX or SAN. The SAN of reports more LUNS are low on space but ESX reports that there is a good bit of free space on the data store. The variation of the reports may be as much as 50 GB.

Anyone got any ideas on why this can happen and that they should look to reconcile the differences?

You can find an old thread on this argument.

It's true: Equallogic indicate less space than ESX, but the reason is simple...

EqualLogic can't VMFS and how it works.

Know only the block marked as used (which may be free or unused in VMFS).
