  I myself would get an iPad Mini because I find the screen of the iPod too show and difficult to use. But it really depends on your preferences. That mini iPad fits well is a pocket.

  When you get the new iPod, you can use iTunes on your computer to select and synchronize the music you want on it, in the same way that you synchronize your current iPod - your iTunes will recognize them as different devices and will remember your choice of synchronization for each, it will not (unless, for example, you restore the backup of your current on her iPod) put the same content on both.

  * I also looked into programs that have the capacity to transfer data FRO my old iPod to my new, however, many of them are not free or are, but to a certain extent (trial version).   I see you want to sync music to your new iPod touch.  If you have a subscription to Apple's music, you can use iCloud music library to keep your music to date.  If you do not, you can synchronize by plugging your iPod into your computer, then sync to iTunes.  Have fun with your new iPod!
