Application of Intel speedstep

Is it not possible for the HP engineers to give us all a bios where we can turn off the Intel speedstep please? It causes no end of problems and would be better to give the user the decision.

After installing an SSD (I wonder why YEAR sounds better than A, even if it is not followed by a vowel?)  as my main drive and have the original 1 to (5400 RPM) that accompanies the lappy as a secondary it seems it has resolved the problems of one or two.  The main thing for me is movie watching especially 1080 res and sometimes 720.  I just assumed it was the intel speedstep causing the glitching problem while watching a movie... but alas no nothing of the sort.  Once I dragged on the movie I wanted to watch the 1 TB (dinosaur) for the SSD (Usain bolt) all disappeard glitches that tells me that the HARD drive that comes with the G7 Pavailion is simply not up to the job and to be honest also causes problems with the webcam.

I tested with many a film glitching and the evidence is strong.  So you get a nice new SSD and cable companies to run it... Oh another thing... do not pay the sum of $46 HP wants... Go here...

    Hello

Why you want to disable SpeedStep? I mean that's a feature and not a bug ;)
SpeedStep can improve the performance of your laptop, because the CPU will be a little more overclocked card motherboard/BIOS if you run programs of high CPU usage. So that s nice

If you want to disable, you must do in Windows power management if you can find t such an option in the BIOS.

  • How to enable Intel Speedstep on Satellite L300-1BD

    Hello

Today, I bought the Toshiba L300 - 1BD that Vista is preinstalled.

To improve my batterylife, I changed vista to 'classic design' and the option of energy "energy saving".
Although it does not use the Intel Speedstep technology.

When I run the utility: CPU - Z, it shows that the speed of the CPU is at 2000 Mhz. normally, when the CPU is idle, it must change the multiplier to low, screaming result in approximately 1000 mhz. This can save a lot of battery!

Does anyone know why it does not work, or how to make it work?

    Thanx and Greetz from Germany!

Are you sure that the processor supports the Intel speed step technology?

I googled a little bit and it seems that this unit was equipped with the 667 MHZ Celeron 575 Merom (2.00 GHz) CPU

    And I m 100% sure this CPU * DOESN T * support speed stage.

  • Battery problem (CPU a bottleneck) with BIOS and Intel SpeedStep technology.

    The question is this:

    1. If the AC adapter and the battery are both connected on the X201T, the speed of the CPU (base clock) is capable of running at the maximum speed of 2.13 GHz as indicated by the specifications of the system.
    2. If only the battery is connected, the speed of the CPU is still able to run at maximum speed of 2.13 GHz as indicated by the specifications of the system.
    3. If only the AC adapter is plugged in, the speed of the CPU is now 'limited' and can run only at 1.2 GHz.
4 in addition, I also ran Windows Experience Index assessment (built-in to Windows 7) and received a score of 6.3 with the battery or the AC adapter is plugged in, but only a score of 4.2 with only the AC adapter.
    5. the system is significantly slower and cursor shifts are more noticeable when the battery is disconnected.

    Control Panel:
A.the system has been set at maximum Performance with all the power saving settings turned off. The system has been fully updated for the latest updates and possible drivers from 12/03/10 at the time of the breathalyzer test.  No other software is installed that came with the ThinkPad when I received it.
    B. with the connection and disconnection of the battery, the system has been individually disabled every time and restarted.
    C. I ran full system Test and system through Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox stress Test and received no errors to ensure that the question was not due to system errors.
    D. I used CPU - Z 1.56 v to monitor the speed of the CPU, all running Intel BurnTest v2.50 to insist on the system.
    E. the problem is reproducible and probably a system wide problem/bug, because I tested it on two my X201T (I know it's weird, but I have two of these amazing machines).

    Update:

After further testing, I've isolated the problem of "Bottleneck the CPU processor without battery" occurs only when the technology Intel SpeedStep in BIOS is enabled. Only when the SpeedStep technology option is cleared "completely", this problem will not occur. However, if the SpeedStep technology is enabled, even when the AC is set on maximum Performance, the CPU processor speed is limited when the battery is disconnected with the tablet running only on the AC adapter. This seems to be a bug in the BIOS.

If someone can communicate this problem Lenovo Engineering Department so that they can arrive at a solution, that would be great and very helpful. So I can work on my system without always having the battery plugged.

There are 2 solutions for that.

You spend more money for a 90W power adapter (which I did), then you can disconnect the battery and it will run at full speed.

Or, you go into the BIOS and turn off IntelSpeedStep.

Unfortunately, without the battery, when only using the 65W adapter, your speed will be throttled (I think it's a mistake on the end of Lenovo, but they claim it's normal).

  • B230 BIOS for Intel Speedstep setting

I was curious, if someone was able to disable Speedstep on a blade B230?  I defined a custom BIOS with this option disabled policy, he attributed to the blade and then restarted service profile blade, but it shows again that the activated inside the BIOS screen.

SpeedStep is not an option in the BIOS by default (under servers-> default BIOS policies in UCSM) and it is grayed out inside the BIOS screen.

I guess that's what VMWare has noticed while watching my limitation of 50% CPU performance issue.

    Thanks in advance,

    Lewis Benton

I have discussed this with our Dev team.  It is the expected behavior.

With our chipsets EX blades (B230 & B440) are there implicit levels of power Cap applied.  UCS manages Power Capping of blades using the features of P-States of chipsets.  By disabling Speedstep this essentially disables the functionality of the State-P and UCSM covering power may not be executed.  All this is done to protect the chassis and the blades against the power of related issues in the extreme corner cases.  It is rare to ever see any deployment of UCS where EX blades have been capped because of this.

We have an open bug to have the BIOS completely removed the B230/B440 token so it won't be visible in the BIOS.  As you can see, we have already removed the "BIOS Defaults" option for these two platorms.  This will be corrected in a future version to 1.4 day.

    Kind regards

Let the speedstep, it is designed to operate as low as possible depending on the application you are using, run prime95 and you will see mounted power 2.3 GHz cpu.  I see no reason to turn it off.

So really, you want or need to do, in the Power Options, see this:

  • Satellite Pro 6100: Intel Pentium 4 M clocked 0.2 Mhz instead of 1.8 MhZ clock speed

    Hello

I have a 6100 Pro Satellite under XP SP2 on Bios 1.90. A few days ago, he suddenly started running very slowly.
According to the value of the ID of Intel, processor running at approximately 0.2 MHz, instead of the maximum speed of 1.8 MHz, with a similar reduction in the speed of the bus.
I have reset the BIOS and restore the MBR & OS, but the problem remains.

I'm running on current alternative, with display 100% charged battery. I also turned off all power settings to try to stop the running slow robot through the Intel speedstep technology.

This might sound like a hardware problem, but if I boot the machine from a Linux CD (Knoppix), it works very well - very reactive, and according to linux, the clock measures the speed to about 1.79 MHz.

Does anyone has an idea what could be causing this, or what I can try next?

    Hello

at first your machine cannot operate at 0.2 Mhz. It's impossible! So I think that this utility Intel ID is not give you correct information. He must know that the slower speed will achieve your cpu, established in the region of 600 mhz.
With 0.2 Mhz run your computer won´t!
You said that you have restored your system, but the fact that you have installed the latest drivers and tools for this computer from the Web from Toshiba site?

Maybe your CPU is defective, which can be a reason.

    Hello

I just bought a Satellite P300-150 and it was working well in general... play lotro with few problems, but not in dx10 cos it chuggs as hell.

I noticed he had a genuine problem of warhead of the crisis in the recommended settings, but thought it was just cos he couldn't do.

But I downloaded the untilty of Intel processor id and he gave the following results... as you can see on the bottom 4 lines the processor is very upset with the expected results for the frequency and buses (fewer than half actually).

Intel recommends if there is a huge gap, I need to contact the manufacturer... which brought me here.
Any advice before contacting tech support directly?
Just maybe I can play warhead after all! : o).

    Hello

Satellite P300-150 was equipped with the Intel Core 2 Penryn T8300 processor.
This processor supports Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology.

Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology allows the system to dynamically adjust the tension and the processor core frequency. This means that the CPU doesn't always work with maximum performance, but only if it of needed. This helps minimize the heat dissipation and allows to secure the battery energy!

The CPU seems to be slow check with the Intel ID tool ;)

  • Satellite A300 - 1HP Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 'Penryn' question

    Hello

I have some problems with the T8100 CPU in my notebook. The energy saving features, especially Speedstep, does not work properly under Windows Vista and XP. If I use High Performance in Vista Power Options, the processor switches between 1.25 GHz and 2.1 GHz.

The minimum and maximum processor state is set to 100%. I also installed XP and Toshiba Power Saver, the automatic CPU processing speed does not work it and this tool needs to be updated! I hope that these problems will be fixed soon!

Enhanced Intel Speedstep Technology require a compatible BIOS, a compatible operating system and a compatible Intel processor.
Satellite A300-1HP supports all of these features.

But I wonder how did you test the CPU performance and why you're suggesting that this feature does not work properly? ?:|

To my knowledge the Core 2 Duo CPU run * always * better performance.
If the performance of the processor are not necessary the CPU will then lower to save energy and reduce heat dissipation.

So I don't really see any problems with the Intel Speedstep technology!

By the way; I noticed that the new BIOS updates are rented on the Toshiba page. Try to update the BIOS.

    Good bye
