Apply a 'border' or 'line' on the left of a paragraph?

Hello, I am fairly new in InDesign that I learned to back many moons ago on PageMaker. I'm currently working on a layout of book and have to relearn things as well as getting used to InDesign. So far, the only thing that confused me and I could not find is the following:

How to create a line to the left of a paragraph (see attached photo)? As you can see in the picture the line is to indicate to readers that this bit is option in the service. He could craft several different paragraph styles. Of course, in Word or OpenOffice, you would simply apply a border to these paragraph styles but I can't understand how to do this in InDesign.

I have to save that bit to the last, until I get all the pages that they should appear and then manually insert a line on these paragraphs?

Is there a way I could have a paragraph style (or a set of styles) that auto apply the line to the text selected?

Any suggestions?

OK, these nested styles are quite the most awesome thing ever!

Thank you

Tommy

  • Black line on the left side of the page

I have a HP Laserjet 1018. The toner is old, there are about 3,000 pages.

These days, I saw a black line on the left side of the page. The rest of the page is fine - faded streak.

I took the toner and it has shaken for a few seconds, from one side to the other, but who has no good.

    Any recommendations?

    HP LaserJet p1102w

1018 manual says that when this happens, the old toner drum is scratched and insert a new. I did, and the line has dissappeared,

OK, there was more Ink toner, left, but after 3, 000-plus pages, I can live with having to replace it.

  • InDesign CC 2015 making the vertical border full length on the left and right of the epub

    Hello

I'm working on a fluid epub 3.0 and I do the vertical borders to the left and to the right of the text. I created two object styles - one for left and one for the right border. These are vector shapes InDesign so I put in place of style to rasterize export options each and float in left (or right) accordingly. Both custom to an empty paragraph containing a nonbreaking at the top of the document, set automatic leading space anchor use. The problem, it's the ePUB to honor only the property float, based where the form is embedded. How can I get every border to sit to the left and right and still running the vertical length full of display area? I know that I could remove the forms and put in a shot of color on the text block, but this will put the borders on the top and bottom and sides. I would then have to crack open the ePUB and edit the CSS to limit borders on the left and right. I try to avoid cracks, it opens, but I'll do it if there is no other choice. Here is a screenshot of what it looks like to the InD and the other is a preview into Digital Editions (double page view).

Well, I found this one on my own. I just got an external stylesheet and referenced when I export to ePUB. The style sheet has the css I needed and it works now!

  • Red hue S2340L and intertwining of the lines on the left side of the screen

    Hello

I have been using the monitor S2340L dell for the last 4 months. Now he seems to have a reddish tint on the left side of the screen. On a thorough inspection it seems also to be interlacing of horizontal lines. These lines don't extend to whole screen however, only about 5cm from the left at the border. the rest of the function of the monitor as usual.

I did the test, in disabling the pc and pressing the keys 1 and 4 on monitor. It's still there. Please me tips on how to get this repaired/replaced product.

  • How to create a table with no lines to the left or to the right?

If I create a table with say 5 columns and 15 lines, how not to do a vertical line (border) to the left and to the right of the table while keeping the boundary up and down? Is that possible or I just put a white box on the left and the right?

    IDCS3

There are a few methods that work. Here is one.

    (1) select your table cells

    (2) open the race Panel

    3) click the blue lines of the proxy image in the Panel of stoke to deselect the lines inside and high and low lines

    (4) 0 the value of the weight of the race (or change the color of the None swatch)

Oh and for the love of your fellow designers or the person that allows you to edit your work in the future... do NOT use a white box to hide the traits of lines and columns in the table.

Everything I print, on some paper, a vertical line scraggly appears in the left margin area. In my view, it is ink that has leached out, but I don't know where or how clean it. Ink cartridge seems solid. TIA and Happy New Year.

  • the presentation of the screen on my monitor is slightly off center with a thin black line on the left hand side. Ho can I fix this. I am running Windows 7 with a monitor Samsung SyncMaster SA10

The presentation of the screen on my new monitor is slightly biased with a thin black line on the right hand side which makes it awkward hitting the back button on the upper left side of the screen. How can I adjust this?  I am running Windows 7 on a new Compaq PC with AMD Vision and monitor Samsung SyncMaster SA10.

    Any suggestions to adjust welcome.

    Thank you.

The monitor must have menu on the side or the bottom buttons - in the find menu where you can adjust the horizontal position of the image.

Increasing or decreasing the horizontal value will move the image left or right. When it is centered properly, you can exit the monitors.

  • Why this word on the next line on the left is to align?

    Hi all!

First of all, sorry, but I'm not familiar with "Terms of InDesign", so I'll explain what the problem is in my own words

I had this problem before and google it every now and then, but don't seem to find the right answer.

    So this is the problem;

Sometimes, when I put the text to the left, words just randomly will be to go to the next line, although there is still plenty of room for the word on the first line...

I have attached a picture - the word "ask" is on the next line, but as you can see, it'll hold as well on the first line...

Why oh why does this phenomenon happen?

    Any help is appreciated!

    indesign-issue.gif

Because he's trying to balance all the lines in the paragraph of the best possible.

If "asking" returned a line then that would mean that "diastrous" do not fit on the line below, and you would get very uneven lines.

This is known as a composer of single line and paragraph composer and is accessible in the paragraph Panel Menu
