You will not be able to restore an ASR backup without the system information stored on this disk. What does that mean? Should I save my data otherwise? I don't have a floppy drive (I'm surprised if someone does) but I have a dvd read/write cd drive... One last thing. When I looked at the content on the flash drive with program de-Frag it was lit, which means completely fragmented, the program recommended it de-fragment it... is this safe with a file of this size on a flash drive?

Original title: Saving went well, but

Windows XP is too old to do something other than a floppy drive.  If the automated system recovery disk is important to your backup and restore needs (HINT: YES it IS!) then get a USB floppy drive to create the ASR disk.  Or get a copy of most modern backup and restore program that works under XP and use modern media (USB, CD/DVD, keys etc.) to create a startup/recovery media.

  • NTBACKUP. EXE WILL NOT DO AN ASR DISKETTE

I can make a backup of hard drive using NTBACKUP. EXE, but it won't make an ASR recovery on my USB floppy disk. I tried to help a Q299526 article but records were not there. I couldn't find the dossier_Windows/repairs where they were supposed to be. I looked away for the files asr.sif and asrpnp.sif but nothing helped. My PC recognize the USB floppy and it is #1 in the start position.

    Hello

I suggest you try the procedure below.

    a. click on the star t button, type %windir%/repair and press to enter.
    b. now, search for the files Asr.sif and Asrpnp.sif.

My advice to you is to renounce the backup utility built-in to Windows XP (NTBackup.exe) and you get a disk imaging or disk cloning application.

If you have a Western Digital hard drive, you can get it from WD (http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp?swid=119) or you can get it separately (this is not an exhaustive list and is in no particular order):

    Acronis True Image Home 11
    EASEUS ToDo Backup
Paragon Drive Copy or Partition Manager Personal
    Casper
    Norton Ghost

I bought an external hard drive to use as a backup of the system. The backup was successful, but in the end, I couldn't create the ASR restore disk. Is it possible to create one now?

    Hello

You must have the floppy drive to create (ASR, Automated System Recovery).

  • Backup put the ASR files on diskette, that it keeps giving an error message - other programs write to a disc, no problem

I backup weekly on an external hard drive using tools-backup of system accessories.  I use the ASR feature for 2 years.  Today, he wouldn't write the ASR files on the diskette in the drive.  I checked the disk and other programs writing to her, but not the backup utility.  Without the ASR files, the backup is useless.  Does anyone know if this could be fixed by the re - install Windows XP Pro?

  • XP pro sp3 run asr, but didn't start; files for the recovery diskette could not be created

I had previously asr has been successfully run on the same configuration but have decided to update the recovery data. I tried to restart the asr by clicking Start, all programs, accessories, system, backup tools. The Backup Wizard appears and I clicked on Advanced Mode. Then followed the backup utility page, I clicked on the ASR Wizard. The next page has been the preparation of Recovery Wizard, I clicked next and was presented with the option of backup destination and, after finishing the backup destination, I clicked Next. My page was last option; End of the ASR Wizard, I clicked Finish. Backup went into his usual preamble but almost instantly a warning box came up with the message "files for the recovery diskette can not be created." I am running xp pro sp3 as I had been for the creation of the previously successful GDR.

I also tried using the Backup Wizard and I clicked on backup all information on this computer (this option automatically provides ASR) and followed the instructions of the wizard through to the end and the failure has been the same.

I found a solution to my problem of ASR. If I was not able to create an asr backup, I was still able to run Ntbackup. I've saved my OS drive then ran repair with the XP Professional installation cd. Backup ASR works now.

OK, I had to reinstall all them that updates the Knowledge Base Microsoft and also all the Service Packs. One or two of the plug-and-play applications were a bit annoying, but be as I have all the installation cd, other than being tedious, have all been re-installed and the system is now as good as new.

When I try to back up my PC, I get "files for the recovery diskette could not be created" how to fix this?

    Hello

This problem can occur because ASR is not supported in Windows XP Home Edition. However, users of Windows XP Home Edition can access the Recovery Wizard if they install the Ntbackup program in the Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM Valueadd folder.

See the steps listed in the article below and check

  • Advance Mode XP Backup, twice after backup is complete, cannot create an ASR file because I did not insert a floppy disk. I insert a disc in my drive, please help me how do.

Running a WindowsXP Professional, I tried twice to my systems backup using the Backup Wizard. Twice tried to use advanced mode to save. I have 3 choices, first Assistant backup, Second, Assistant food and finally Assistant recovery. I clicked on the wizard of recovery of automatic systems, the wizard to create a backup of the two parts of my systems, a diskette that has my systems settings and other media that contains a backup of my score of local systems.

Twice I tried to insert a disc into my drive and started to click on column e ASR. so to start the long process of backing up my files, after almost two hours later my backup files already completed, a screen appears saying: this isn't in my Wizard floppy drive cannot create ASR inside. He needs a disc with an ASR info, more data backup systems to restore my computer if it meets a major systems failure. My problem is, how to set the disk to my systems before starting settings to back up my files and data with the systems Advance Recovery Wizard first. Thank you.

  • PowerMac G3, 9.2.2, and inability to format disks/diskettes

So rather a strange question, but I have been unable to locate any information about any similar problem to what I saw. Currently have met a Performa 6200 CD and a Powermac G3 266 Mhz. My main problem is with the Powermac, and that it will not recognize or format disks (floppy and CD).

If a disk with some data on it (Mac and PC format and all two accepted on the Performa), it gives only a message to initialize the disc and only Mac 800 K or BACK 800 k. However, an attempt to initialize the disk results in a clerical error and fails. The same error occurs when it is given to a blank CD, including the pop - up application initialization in the PC format, but fails every time. Disk utility ran and not errors in the system, so not sure on what could be the problem.

Any help to solve this is appreciated. I am trying to recover data from floppy disks to backup my Mac SE (definitely failed SCSI drive), but while I can access most data on the Performa, only G3 gives the opportunity for me to move the files from Mac disks only to other CD/USB/Ethernet media.

You do not "format" dtive optical media using the OS disk utility.

For the CD, you will need to find a burning software that is compatible with the old Mac OS, as a version of olde of Roxio Toast that will run on Mac OS 9.2.2 for formatting and burning a disc with you setup to transfer data and burned to a disc.

Search for Roxio Toast 5 this could work as its requirements are Mac OS 8.6 or later.

    https://www.Amazon.com/Roxio-Toast-Titanium-old-version/DP/B00005AW1G/ref=sr_1_1? ie = UTF8 & qid = 1470460272 & sr = 8-1 & keywords =...

I don't think that any old version of MacOS had all abilty to burn discs in native mode. You need hardwarw/software of third parties to achieve this.

I also believe, the CD drive is a CD-ROM drive and has no way to record on a disc.

So you have to find/purchase/use an external, compatible player/CD burner in any case.

In addition, referring to CDs, first Macs and early PowerMac that had integrated CD players could only read and use optical discs of 650 MB size and these discs had to be the r/RW type. These first Macs were unable to recognize the later 700 MB size CD - R /-RW.

    https://www.Amazon.com/Memorex-74-minute-10-Pack-discontinued-manufacturer/DP/B0 0000J4GS/ref = sr_1_fkmr1_1? ie = UTF8 & qid = 14...

I'm not sure of your disk problem. There may be simply that the floppy drive has a problem with his read/write head that prevents the diskettes to be read or written on properly.

There used to be floppy drive cleaning discs that could clean up the read/write heads, but I don't know if these are available any longer or if that resolve the problems with your floppy drive or not.

I found a bunch of floppy drive different kits on Amazon of cleaning.

So, check out this possibility, as well.
