Automate the network port group selection in vsphere replication

Hi, when you use the vsphere replication tool to recover servers in the data center of DR, the tool does not gives option to select network settings. I have to manually add the port groups and turn on the system remotely vcenter. Is it possible to automate this process, when the replication of a major part of the vms ~ 100-150. I would like to know if there is another way to fix the process and avoid the manual load.

I use replication of vsphere device version 5.8

Thank you

The only way to automate this process is through the Site Recovery Manager.  Automate and orchestrate BC/DR is a big part of the value offered by SRM. The other advantage is the ability to test your recovery plans without disruption of service.

Does that answer your question?

  • Configuring the Network Ports

    Hi all

In the inventory menu-> networking in my vSphere client 4 I see that someone has set up several 'networks '.

How to understand which physical ports, they are assigned to, or understand how to route traffic.  I know if I have a DMZ network and a NETWORK card out of the demilitarized zone, how to make a virtual machine use this port?

    Thank you

    C

Networking is via the use of virtual switches. The physical network are assigned to the virtual switch and the law as "uplink ports. There are three types of virtual switches:

    1. Internal only Virtual Switch - this provides networking remains completely inside you ESX host
    2. Virtual switch with the one uplink port - provides not only the networking between the ports conencted to the switch but provides also for the traffic to a physical network
    3. Virtual switch with 2 or more ports uplink - provides not only the networking between the ports conencted to the switch and provides for traffic to a physical network, but also allows for the grouping of NETWORK cards

All the networks for your ESX host going thorugh virtual switch management traffic and the vm. There are two types of ports that are connected to the virtual switch:

    1. VMkernel Port - used for your ESXi including vmotion and iSCSI host management traffic. In an ESX host, it is also called the Service Console Port. This port wiill assign its own IP to uniique
    2. Group of ports in Virtual Machine - your virtual machines will connect to the virtual machine port group - it does not get an IP address as the IP {address iss asasociated with the virtual amchine

When you look at your network in the client VI the right side will be the uplink ports - the physical posrts in your ESX host. The left side will be the or groups connected to the virtual switch ports

    Hi etaf,.

I guess the short answer is: Yes, the problem with the software and the 3.0 Port.

The long answer with a possible work around is as follows: first of all, the software looks for minimum requirements. Because the software is older, he doesn't know what a 3.0 port. You are right when you say that it should work since you do not use the USB and use wireless instead, but this is not the case.

There is something we can try, but I can't guarantee it will work. I thought first we could connect a USB cable and run the software made to force the software to see the USB port, but then the software wouldn't even get far enough because you can't plug the cable to the most later in the installation.

My second thought and most promising suggestion is to connect the USB cable (although we do normally not until the software prompts us to) and use the installation wizard HP Print to get the insteaad of software to use the CD or download from the printer driver page. Still, I can't say with certainty that it works, but I don't see why it would not be worth a try.

If it works, and we get the software installed you can convert the USB connection to a wireless connection using the software. Fingers crossed! Download and run the with the following link. Printer HP install wizard for Windows

If this does not work, or you don't want to bother with it (not worth trying), I might consider getting a new model of the printer. You can even call HP. They might be able to offer a discount on a newer model. If you are in the Canada, U.S. dial 800-474-6836 or you can Contact HP worldwide.

  • Standard vSwitch_Custom VM (Vlan200_VM network) port group does not.

    Hi guys...

I created another group of ports VM network VLAN 200_VMnetwork.

I have attached TWO maps LAN to VM. A LAN card is connected to the port default VM network group and another is connected to network VLAN200_VM.

A LAN card is connected to the local network (Private IP) and another is connected to the Wan (public IP)... IF I CONNECT the TWO VMNIC "DEFAULT virtual machine network" I am able to ping both subnets.

But any vNIC which is connected to the VLAN200_VM network is NOT working...

    Please see the attached snapsshots...

    Thank you

I did not ask you to do what I asked you to test is the separate two VM on the host even be configured to use the VLAN 200 portgroup and verify that these two people are able to talk to each other.

Once you've found that the books above. Go back to your network team and make the request to configure the switch in the trunk output ports (which does not remove the tag VLAN on the package on the output of the switch) as opposed to be defined as access (that strips the tag VLAN).

It is my firm belief that the port group does not work because your switch is misconfigured based on my above statement.

  • Tecra 8100: Don't know if the Network Port Replicator II is working properly

I had a PA3017E-1PRP, i.e. a Network Port Replicator II, for my Tecra 8100. The fact is: I don't know if it works. I plug the computer in and no new material appears. At least the 3Com NETWORK adapter should be recognized, but no sign of life is presented at all.

In addition, the USB ports does not work, but at least, the leds of the watch of the computer there is come from there because they show that battery is charging and the power comes from the DC.

So, how can I check that everything works correctly? The computer is Windows XP SP2 installed, and I installed all the drivers and the support of the utilities (common modules, mobile and other extensions) util Toshiba USA and Toshiba Configfree of Toshiba Asia...

    Hi Toka

I really put t know why you install software mix on your device. In my opinion, you should install European tools and utilities if you live in Europe. But if everything works it is also OK. I just want to make this comment because I don't know if all tools can consort with each other.

As much I know this unit only is not supported for Windows XP Home in Europe. If the US page has mobile extensions for Windows XP Home edition, I assume that it has been tested.

You can use a ports from there or all of them are dead?

  • Add the new port group to dSwitch

    Hello

Given that I have never done this and this prod, as I decided to ask first ;-)

In ESXi 4.1 using a dSwitch, if I add a NEW port group using a VLAN that is not in use (on this dSwitch), that will force any failure to migrate it virtual machines on this dSwitch?

Adding this new group of port causes the dSwitch "reset" in a manner that will cause the failure?

You should be able to add, modify and/or delete groups of ports without affecting other groups/VMs port connected to other port groups. Just follow the steps in http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1010593

  • Why double the network ports on a Mo?

    Hi all

I see that many MB s, especially game and Server MB, now come with double rear network ports.

    How is what is used?

The main use for NIC cluster is in a server/NAS environment. For the internet, it is of no use. Everyone today has a modem/router to connect with a cable or DSL provider and not supported is associated with the map NETWORK and bandwidth, you have with these providers is significantly less than a 1 only Go NIC can offer. It is only when you work in an environment of Server/NAS dual NIC is really advantageous. The speed to get the GB of data from or to the Server/NAS is actually doubled by partnering.

Imagine that you need to send 100 GB of data on the server or NAS. In addition to the rounding errors, it would theoretically take about 14 minutes without balancing the load on the network, by partnering you would achieve 7 minutes in theory. In practice, these numbers will be higher. Teaming makes it possible to use assets in your projects that are stored on a NAS or a server, without dragging down the performance of the system. And of course, the NAS backup is twice as fast.

  • Group VM for vSphere replication - even point in time

    Hello

Is there a way to group a set of virtual machines to vSphere replication, so I ensure the consistency of the request in an event of DR. Take for example, Microsoft SharePoint which split into three servers, application, DB and reporting services. All have a RPO of 4 hours. If we had a DR scenario, the recovered VMs will have different replication timestamps. The DB might 3 hours since the last replication, but demand only 5 minutes from desynchronization. This could cause problems of consistany with dependencies.

I want to ensure as much as possible to the point of replication in time is the same.

    Any ideas?

    Try thisd

    Get-VM | Get-NetworkAdapter | Set-NetworkAdapter -NetworkName -Confirm:$false

If you have more than 1 NETWORK card connected to the prompt, you can use a where clause clause to select the correct NETWORK adapter

    Get-VM | Get-NetworkAdapter | where{$_.Name -eq "Network adapter 2"} | `
