Automount AFP shares of QNAP

Hello

I'm trying to auto mount file-sharing some of my QNAP in my new iMac 5 K. I change the/etc/auto_mount file as well as create an auto_qnap file that contains the path of editing like this:

/.. / Afp://username:password@IPofNAS/Music - fstype-afp volumes/music

The /... / front of Volumes is a 'trick' I read about to allow editing in record Volumes, which is not static. The problem is that once the Mac start up actions are mounted, I can even see the space available on the sharing, but when I try to open it it tells me that I don't have permissions to this network resource. I checked the settings on the NAS and they are correct. If I manually connect to the share through the finder I can also access the data very well (and it goes up on the part of/Volumes/Music-1). Does anyone know if I need to change the format of the mount command?

The Volumes directory is reserved for the framework of arbitration of disc and you shouldn't be automatically get something into that.

Back up all data before proceeding.

These must be run as administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.

Please triple - click anywhere in the line below on this page to select:

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/autodiskmount AutomountDisksWithoutUserLogin YES

Copy the selected text in the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination.

Launch the Terminal application integrated in one of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first letters of his name in a Spotlight search. Select from the results (it should be at the top).

☞ In the Finder, select go utilities ▹ of menu bar or press the combination of keys shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

Paste in the Terminal window by pressing the command-V key combination. I tested these instructions only with the Safari browser. If you use another browser, you may need to press the return key after pasting.

You will be asked for your login password. Nothing displayed when you type. Type carefully, and then press return. If you do not have a password, you will need to configure one before you can run the command. You can get a warning to be careful. Confirm. You don't need to display the warning.

If you see a message that your user name "is not in the sudoers file", then you have not logged as an administrator. Log in as one and start over.

Wait for a new line ending with a dollar sign ($) below what you entered. You can then quit Terminal.

  • direct AFP share vs time machine services

I'm trying OSX Server 3.x (Mavericks), mainly to use it for Time Machine backups, but all her trying some of the other services as well installed.  My question is about the time service Machine that comes with os x Server.  I don't see myself using most of the other features on OSX Server, I will list out all my needs to the end server, but most of them can be easily made with different solutions open source, in some cases in a more flexible way, it seems then that means OSX Server out of the box.  But TM backups for my home network is the only thing that OSX Server provides I think is not provided in any other way, in addition to buying a Time Capsule.  Don't I have that right?

Time Machine, the 1, 2 or 3 options:

    1. Buy a time Capsule.  To my knowledge, Time Capsule does not allow me to set a size limit for each client computer.  They are just fighting for space until the 3 TB drive fills up.  Also 3 TB is barely big enough (except USB).  With OSX Server I can throw in a disc of TM in there to manage several macs with big backup discs.  I also have an old mac alternative pro sitting here who need a goal.
    2. Run OSX Server.  check.
    3. Forget OSXServer, manually create a part of the AFP on mac server, create a sparsebundle to every customer mac that I intend to back up and since client mac, mount the sparsebundle and use it as reader of TM.

So the question is: are there at - there any functional difference between Option2 Option3 technique?  TM OSX Server service a service works any extra well beyond the AFP, to make it more reliable in some way then option3?  If OSX Server provides just a comfortable GUI wrapper around the same underlying mechanism base mounting a sparsebundle via AFP, maybe do a little easier to monitor what is happening, etc...  Its nice to have if I happen to have OSX Server running, but if he is not so maybe I would be ok with option3 as his offering the same guarantees in terms of network dropouts, resource conflicts, and such things.  OSX Server makes it easier in some way or more reliable to stay mounted on the sparsebundle containing the tm, unlike option3 backup?

    Any thoughts?

Also compare OSX Server to Time Capsule if you have knowledge.  OSX Server seems to bring some benefits... but I don't know if OSX Server just basically provides a way to configure the creation of the sparsebundle and I could just as easily do with hdiutil, even on a TC, but certainly in option3.

Also, is there any additional functionality of TM put into play, if I configure Manager profile or something like that?  It comes to the essence of a single user in a network with multiple Macs, but a main user... it's not complicated.

Beyond backup TM, I'll use this area for the following services, some of which may be dealt with by OSX Server and some cannot, or could be better managed by full versions open source:

Time machine, AFP shares SMB sharing, Web, Pydio, Plex, iTunes server (maybe), FTP (pure-ftpd), postgres DB (need pydio or other uses I will come with), possibly git or necessarily crashplan finally.  I also can I possibly transition some critical documents of mission from a NAS separate mirrored on this machine using a raid mirror under OSX.

    Any thoughts welcome...

Also following this question, does anyone know if its possible to have TM on the server machine, backup itself via the OSX Server TM service hosted on the same computer?  When I try to select a time backup device on the server machine, it does not display the optional service TM backup device, it shows that local hard drives that are available and stores the data in the normal way of local drive... not in a sparsebundle as do all other mac clients.  NOTE - I have service TM put TM backups on a separate drive internal then the boot drive... so it is always a good idea to make a TM on the same drive, so be it.  But it seems that I need a partition dedicated to isolate the backup of the server itself... or I need to use option3 and create manually a sparsebundle to save the boot drive, since he cannot see the time service machine OSX Server...   Don't I have that right?

  • How to mount the afp share with two different users

I use Terminal to mount three actions of my SIN.  I want to mount a mount point in my user folder.  One of the actions has a user name and password, so that the other two mount as a guest.  I can ride through Finder > to connect to the server without any problem, but this goes to /Volumes and not in my user folder and also indicates the actions on my desk.  I use to get the following:

    mount_afp o nobrowse 'afp://username:password@Servername/Share1' ~/Mount point/folder 1 /.

This example goes up the part properly, but when I run the following command:

    mount_afp o nobrowse 'afp://Servername/Share2/' ~/Mount point/folder 2 /.

    I have the following error:

    mount_afp: AFPMountURL returned error-5023, errno is-5023

This happens if I invert the controls as well, for example to get the comments share first, then the part of the user.

Am I missing something?  I can't get different actions for different credentials?

OS X has no Linux - bind option that allows multiple points of Assembly of nickname for the same file system.

OS X allows a file system mounted only once.

I suggest you get the file normally, system create an OS X Alias, can put copies of this Alias in the account of each use.

And/or create symbolic links that point to the real mount point.

  • El Capitan 10.11.3 broke the AFP to my QNAP NAS connections

    All,

After you have installed the latest update of El Capitan (10.11.3) my iMac has now severed his ties of AFP with my two QNAP NAS. All software are up to date on two NAS also (4.2.0).

The iMac looking for directories but seems to hang trying to get directory and file information. (She turns the color wheel)

I have Time Machine support the upgrade, but my Time Machine backups are stored on QNAP, which he cannot access.

You do not use a time Machine supported configuration. To learn how to use Time Machine read to use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac.

Despite the insistence of their manufacturers on the contrary, there is no NAS device non - Apple that will work reliably with Time Machine. If you want to use your QNAP NAS device to back up the contents of your Mac, then use an other than Time Machine backup strategy.

The comprehensive list of the devices supported by the time Machine is the following:

    • Built-in hard drive to airport Time Capsule (any model)
    • External USB drive connected to a Time Capsule (any model)
    • Drive external USB drive connected to an AirPort Extreme (802.11ac model only)
    • A hard drive connected directly to the source Mac, or a Mac running OS X Server on your local network.

    That's all.

Use any backup device you want, but you should be aware that this site is full of reports about the misery of unhappy individuals who used third party for Time Machine backups NAS devices, to determine that they were incomplete, damaged, or pointless in the circumstances terrible in which they are required. Apple don't care if you lose your data when you use a Time Machine configuration specifically excluded from their technical support documents.

  • After update to Sierra, Mac does not connect to the ReadyNAS device

I have two Macs at home - an iMac and a MacBook Pro.  I also have a ReadyNAS device, which acts as a time for both Machine.

I've updated the iMac to macOS Sierra.  The upgrade went smoothly, no error reported.  However, once it was up, I found that the iMac has questions is authenticating with the ReadyNAS via AFP (and / or he would authenticate, then delete the connection) and also not able to connect to the service of Time Machine on the ReadyNAS device.

To be sure it wasn't the ReadyNAS, I went to my MBP - it still works under OS X 10.11 and shows all the problems.  AFP shares are accessible without problem, and Time Machine works as expected.

Has nothing changed with Time Machine or AFP protocols under macOS Sierra, which could cause this?

The ReadyNAS is a ReadyNAS Pro 4, running 4.2.28. firmware, if it is useful.

Thank you very much for your help!

AFP is not used by Sierra. Try using SMB instead, if your NAS supports. Or contact the technical support of the manufacturer for assistance.

  • Server files to fiber without Xsan?

    Hi all

We did a Mac Mini server for a long time now on ethernet on our small business network, and we recently replaced one of our editing Mac Pro (2010 model) with a more recent 2013 videos.

The Mac Pro 2010 has a fiber inside, and I wonder if it is possible to use it to replace our server Mac Mini (El Cap) and run as a file on the network server using fibers. Our firewall is a Sonicwall NSA 4600, which has the ability to take entry fiber connections, then all customers would be connected via ethernet. All our data would be on the internal SSD drives, and configure a RAID is not necessary (there are already solutions secondary and backup in place).

I have little or no experience using fiber (a company from the outside set up our private network edition). Before I jump into the rabbit hole, which was wondering is) adding a fiber to a network machine works similar to ethernet (i.e. just setting IP, Sub, etc.)? (B) what I need to set up an XSAN system with controllers separate metadata etc., or can I simply connect the mac pro in the switch firewall and SMB/AFP share as he was connected by ethernet? And (C) can other services OS X Server as a VPN server, RADIUS, or OD work through the fiber connection, or do I need to run an Ethernet line separate to those of work (or even to keep the Mac Mini for these functions)?

The advantage that I would hope to achieve is a debit to transfer files to and from customers.

    Thank you!

There are two types of use of fiber that your current Mac Pro could use.

    1. Ethernet over fiber - used for the connection of normal computer network
    2. FDDI over fiber - used for the connection of SAN storage

It's not not obvious from your post that you are using. Ethernet over fiber option is mainly for going the distance, but could also be used with a faster for example 10 Gbit/s network connection.

Your current Mac Pro run Xsan? If it means that he uses FDDI.

Note: Everything needs to use compatible versions for Xsan for work.

You can get the two 10 Gbps, that interfaces Ethernet fiber and FDDI interfaces for use with a Mac, this is done with a direct Thunderbolt adapter, or a bolt of lightning to box PCIe in which you want to keep a PCIe card - most likely even the currently in your Mac Pro.

FDDI is only used for storage connections and is normally only used by servers. (And the storage itself.) It permanently unusable for normal networking, servers would also have Ethernet connections for this.

A 'SAN' allows several servers share a single storage via direct connections (FDDI) device, normally only one computer can be connected to a storage device. The Xsan software or a similar software for other platforms acts as a controller to ensure these several servers can use the same storage without conflict.

  • My Airport Time Capsule can act as a WIRELESS access point

    Hello.

I brought a Time Capsule with my Mac Pro. It worked well since yesterday.

I have set up the time Capsule as a WIFI, bypass at my local network access point. There is a router (cable) works at home.

It's my Mac Pro AirPort Utility and my iPhone, my Time Capsule is displayed with an exclamation point saying "device not found". I can't connect to the disk on this subject by afp share, or smb. Time Machine function is gone too. He failed trying to connect to the share drive from another computer connected to the time Capsule by cable network.

But at the same time, WiFi works well.

I tried to recycle energy. Sharing disk will be available. But if I start the Time Machine backup, it will not be a few seconds.

    Any idea?

    Thank you.

There are several posts here related the issue.

Luckily, you have set up your new Time Capsule for Back to My Mac (BTMM)?

If so, the 'temporary' solution is to delete/disable the option of the CCMM, as follows:

    • Run the AirPort Utility.
    • Select the base and then station, select change.
    • On the tab of the Base Station, go back to the section of my Mac at the bottom of the window.
    • If you have entries here, select it and click then the minus sign "-" button to remove it.
    • Click on update and allow the base station restart.

If you have not enabled CCMM, we have other options for you to try.

  • Migration wizard - Time Machine on Windows sharing

    Hello guys,.

I made a backup of my MacBook (Yosemite) via the time machine on a windows share ("smb://asus/TimemachineMacbook"). Inside the action, there is my folder (respectively image) "TimeMachine.sparsebundle". Everything went successfully.

I made a clear installation with El Capitan. Now I want to restore my music, photos and so on...

I am able to open the smb share and mount the 'TimeMachine.sparsebundle '. I see the backup, all files are there.

But I am not able to access this sparsebundle with the Migration Wizard. Inside the wizard, I can add an smb with the correct credentials share, but it shows me nothing to select. Just an empty list.

I also tried with afp... I installed "Acronis access Connect" on my windows computer and created an afp share "smb://asus/TimemachineMacbook". I can access with the finder. in the migration wizard, it shows me the afp share automatically (I must not add), when I select and press 'next', nothing happens...

Does anyone have a solution how to use the wizard migration with my sparsebundle on a windows machine?

    I did it!

Sharing should be mounted, for example: /Volumes/TimeMachine.sparsebundle

    And finally in the terminal:

  • Lightroom loses NAS file locations after external editing in photoshop

When I use Lightroom and use the command to edit my RAW files in Photoshop and then save and close Photoshop and Lightroom loses my file locations.

-Home-made NAS (freenas) server to store all my RAW files

    -Lightroom version: CC 2015.2.1

    -Adobe Photoshop Version: 2015.0.1

08-12-2015, it's always the same problem with Lightroom version: CC 2015.3 and Adobe Photoshop Version: 2015.1 unfortunately!

I did more stable after reading a message on another forum (LR loses the locations of files after that I have Edit in photoshop on my iMac - Lightroom Forums) and found out that the problem was caused by the AFP share name: home. It seems Lightroom or Photoshop don't like stocks AFP named 'home' when it comes to performing a "Edit in Adobe Photoshop CC 2015...". I renamed my AFP share in 'nashome', and it's working now.

The cause has been found and there is an easy solution, but the problem is still to be fixed by Adobe now!

  • AFP vs SMB performance

I've just updated to the latest version of Sierra.  I thought I had read somewhere that SMB was preferred over the AFP in Sierra and that performance would improve.  I don't see any improvement.  My results are so radically different, I thought that I post to see if anyone can tell me why my performance SMB is so catastrophic?

I have a Mac Pro (non-cylindre) on a home network wired gigabit.  Synology DS412 + NAS running 4 disks in RAID 5.  I mounted it my my Mac using the basic option "Connect to Server" in the Finder and typing "afp://server:share" and "smb://server:share" for testing.  Both were mounted and tested separately, which means I am disconnected from the AFP before Assembly and test SMB.  I used rsync with some verbose options to copy a 1.5 GB file in order to see the speed and get a transfer of the statistics.

Here are the stats to transfer the file to AFP:

It seems that Apple still did not set their "quick and dirty" dose for such Badlock described in this thread: El Capitan 10.11.5 update slow SMB (bug)

If you believe that your network is protected from man-in-the-middle attacks and the bug Badlock, then you can disable the client for signature.

    1. Create a nsmb.conf file in / etc with vim. sudo will be necessary.
    2. Write to the file:

    [default]

    signing_required = no

Then restart your machine. Your SMB3 speeds should be comparable to the AFP again.

  • How to backup without identifier (NFS vs SMB/AFP)

    Hello

you just bought a ReadyNAS 312 but do not yet know about some basic principles.

I want to use mainly as a backup destination, but also as the main source for backups Crashplan. In detail I will not install Crashplan headlessly on the NAS (totally not supported) but I prefer to install on my computer, which is then connected to the NAS through my line (just check, taken Crashplan supported files attached nas backups).

What I don't understand is how can automatically make sure Crashplan can see the files at all times... I think that this should be easy with NFS and Linux computers. I just need to configure actions to be mounted automatically at each start-up, right?

What, Mac computers, is even achievable with SMB/AFP so that I don't connect all the time in the Finder.

I know that these sounds of questions a bit silly, but it's the first time I have use a SIN 'serious '.

To be honest: sooner or later we will return only Linux boxes in the House, but at this point we can not yet get rid an Apple computer.

Thanks a lot for any suggestion

I suspect that for Linux, you simply create a NFS mount point suitable, but I have not tried. In any event, you don't really need to go with headless on the NAS installation, if it presents the advantage to avoid the need for a separate device.

With Windows, the name of user and password may be different. Configure you in the Windows Credential Manager. I'm not a Mac guy, but I think that Keychain Apple does the same for network with OS x resources. I think that with Linux, you need to explicitly use the opening of session and password in the mount command (I don't think it's the equivalent of the Windows or Apple Keychain credentials manager).

This is what prompted the request for assistance to Crashplan. The solution was to the retention value of the files deleted in 6 months and then consolidate archive. That took a while (Crashplan was not wise to this point). I've also increased the memory in the pro and CrashPlan defined to use the size of the memory possible max (which, on the pro, is about 3.5 GB with a 32-bit JVM).

It has been working fine since that date (end of June). In any case, it's a good idea to lower the setting for the retention of deleted files. I also put deduplication to "minimal".
