XP SP3 vs. Windows 7; network failures

I have 2 laptops, xp sp3 and 7 Home Edition and the only options I have to share computer files on the network, I had already set up is by implementing another homegroup that does not allow the computer XP network to join. the fix on the support page for microsoft will not work because "windows doesn't have this fix." There is a subsequent update already installed"How can I share files between the two BONES? the last time I had my network set in place it was between two computers XP and it worked great! every day, the synchronized files! but now I don't have the option of regular network configuration. I really want to implement sharing of files again.

Hi ggriggs,

· You receive an error message or error code when you try to share files on the network?

· What is the security software installed on the computer?

Homegroup is only to computers on the network Windows 7 and it will not work with Windows XP.

Check out the link that has steps on how to share files on the network that are running different versions of Windows below. Link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Networking-home-computers-running-different-versions-of-Windows

    Nanna leighlas,
Please post with the information requested here: what to post in the Windows Update forum

I would say you can try a different virus scanner (such as a scanner online) just to check that you don't have a problem with virus\malware.  Here are some links that can help with this:
    Get rid of malware
Can I clean an already infected computer?
Windows Live OneCare Safety Scanner Windows XP

Then, you must perform a clean boot on your system and then try to install SP3.

  • Is there a way I can get even SP2 and SP3 for windows xp home edition to my pc that had been in storage since 2007?

I tried to go to windows update but redirected to micrsoft support page, which offers no SP2 and SP3 for windows XP Pro, and yet I don't have a network of computers running windows XP Pro download the SPs would be a disater as it is intended for more than one PC.

It does not give the notice to go to the windows update page, but I can't get there because I do not have windows XP SP 3 installed on my pc, and even if I have it on a disc I couldn't install it anyway because SP 2 is not installed on this pc.

So this pc seems to be thrown into a sort of limbo XP, does anyone know a way I can get these much needed without breaking service packs?

I don't think that WIndows 98 can join to a domain.  All versions of WIndows, you mention should be able to participate in a working group, however.

  • Connection to a Mac on a Windows 7 network

I have a MacBook Air on a network of PC (Windows 7), and I can connect the PC to the Mac, but not the reverse. I used to be able to communicate in both directions, but I think I forgot the password I need to connect from the PC. Here is what is happening on the PC:

-Windows Explorer > network displays two icons of computer, JOHNS-AIR (Mac) and the FLOOR (PC).

-I double-click JOHNS-AIR, get a dialog titled "Windows security" that says "enter your password to connect to: JOHNS-AIR" and displays a Userid (to the FLOOR/jatay) and a text box empty for the password. The part "jatay' of the user ID is the name of the home folder on the Mac, and it's a shared folder.
-I provide my Apple ID, I use the password as a password for my Mac, and it is rejected: "connection failure: unknown username or bad password."

If my ID Apple for Mac is the wrong password, where can I find the right one?

For what it's worth, I used a PC "Network Password Recovery" utility to try to find the password and for ' domain: target = JOHNS-AIR "it returns"UPSTAIRS\jatay"for the user and my Apple ID password.

    Any info, thanks a lot.

  • OfficeJet pro 8600 kills Windows XP Networking

OfficeJet pro 8600, several computers Windows XP networking.

I have 4 different 8600 OfficeJet Pro installed on 4 different sites, purchased from different vendors. In any case, I get the same problem.

There is a network problem. All printers are connected to the network.

The printer is not the cause of the problem. The problem persists even if the printer is turned off.

The problem is that: when the computer is turned on all night, the next morning, Web pages aren't accessible, and the networks of communication with the printer is missing. You cannot print, and you can not navigate.

You can ping the router, ping the external DNS servers, and you can test Web pages. Navigation is affected. And printing.

Turning the printer off and restarts do not affect the problem. Restarting the computer solves the problem.

Kill all the services of iexplorer running in taxk Manager solves the problem.

HP support says it is a XP problem and they have no intension to work on the problem. They think it's a network problem disconnected operating system after 2 hours. They are wrong. I left the computer alone for more than 4 hours and the problem is. It occurs if you leave the computer on all night.

Windows XP-based computers were all updated for the latest updates and are running SP3.

The solution is to disable the computer function on computer analysis, solves the problem of navigation.  Always change the notification of ink for printing only.  This action has resolved the problem of printing defect.

I have the latest version of the software and the latest firmware.

I can't believe that if panasonic can write software because it has networked copiers (all printers) that still work and are easy to install on windows xp, HP cannot write similar software.  I am referring to analyze computer software.

I loaded sp3 for windows xp and now the system does not restart.  He is caught in a loop.  It is now trying continuously restart.  I tried safe mode and it just scrolls the file names and stops.  I tried the last successful reboot option known and that no longer works.

    A. you must have only one 1 antivirus installed and to load at startup. If your McAfee subscription is updated, uninstall AVG & reboot.

    B. then you will need to treat the Norton "remains". Applications, (Norton and McAfee) are known to not uninstall (or upgraded) themselves.

    1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. double-click on the file that you saved in #1 above to run the utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

    C. now try to install SP3 by the following recommendations:
