Unable to start the virtual machine.

    22 (invalid argument)

This circumstance may be linked to a sata cable issue, with the possibility of temporary loss of connectivity, which could result in data loss/corruption, I realize.  It is a laboratory box.  Especially say that the 2 VMDK he complains (trying to light) is both on the grounds of a single physical disk. Data, read and written to the speaker, since the problem are very good (which indicates the wiring problem was resolved, and the VMFS5 file system seems to be in good health).

No photos.  No related clones.  Just a 2012 Windows Server based VM, with several drive letters in, with those underlying files VMDK residing on different stores of data VMFS5.  Implemented end (these drives aren't really so huge), but far from running out of physical space for the data either. Everything is working great for months, until today, trying to it turns on again.

but alas, none of them seem to relate directly, or exactly.  My vmware.log file is attached below, as well as some screenshots of to show the structure of the unity of this virtual machine.  Hoping that this post proves fruitful, if anyone has had a similar situation.  The data at stake here are (mostly) redundant, but I would rather understand my way of it, in the case where it happens to me again, or can help others.  Many preferred rather than give up, reformat the VMFS and start again.

    Thank you!

Good news, the best result I could hope. No data is lost. No corruption of the VMFS or NTFS don't drive in the virtual machine. Nice!  Saved me a few terabytes of data restoration and learned a little more on file system of troubleshooting along the way.

It took a technician of VMware Service excellent, attentive, methodical remote 2 hours in a WebEx previously to resolve problems with these 2 files vmdk manually, because he found that there is a lock on them. I opened a request of Service (SR) # with VMware by following the instructions here:

VMware KB: Cannot access certain files on a VMFS datastore

To resolve this problem, apply for support from VMware Support and note this ID (1012036) Knowledge Base article in the description of the problem. For more information on the filing of a request for support, see How to submit a support request.

I'll cover this saga and the exact process for collecting and downloading of newspapers, through to my TinkerTry.com, including the ride video.  I even captured much of the technical work that has been done. That said, it is true that little of the magic that was made to resurrect the metadata will remain a mystery, given that this piece is VMware.

I'm ok with a bit of black box, considering how I'm happy that I got all my data, and time savings that the quick recovery represented.

  • Rebuild the ESX - Dell 2950 Server

    Hey,.

We have three servers (Dell 2950) running ESX 3.5. One of them seems to act weird and must want needs to be rebuilt. All our servers are connected to a San and we VC installed on another server.

I was wondering what is the best way to rebuild this server? Never done this before and I don't want to lose any VM etc. Also is there anything I can follow recommended doco?

    See you soon,.

    Mark Bayliss

DRS is enabled on your cluster? If this is the case, then place the host you want to regenerate in maintenance mode. Computer virtual running on it will be vmotioned off to another ESX host in the cluster. Once the host is in maintenance mode you can turn it off. Remove the host to virtualcenter

Disconnect the cable to the SAN from the back of the server, or make sure SAN LUNS are not presented to the host through the SAN switch (assuming that the fibers). Disconnecting cables is the safest option

Rebuild your media host directly or through DRAC virtual media.

Once rebuilt, return to Virtual Center and add the host; I tend to add again but not in the cluster. Reconnect the cables of your SAN and re-run the analysis for your SAN storage space.

Once you have the SAN re-presented to the host, then move back to the cluster.

  • Find out what package is called from the frontend

    Gurus,

I'm working on "Oracle Database 11 g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.4.0 - 64 bit Production" and the front-end application is on .NET.

When I click through the different pages of the application, different packages are called. Is it possible that I can find out what package is called?

I'm just trying to understand the business, if I don't want to bug the frontend developer and ask the request for each click I do.

    Here's what I'm trying:

Under query gives the last execute sql if we have the SYS user privileges. I don't have the privileges.

    Select sql_text from v$ sql

    where first_load_time = (select max (first_load_time) from v$ sql);

Also, I need the package called not the sql!

    Can you please help?

    Thank you

    Lydiea

You are on the right track...

You can use the v$ sql to find out what is running or just ran.

If you know the name of schema analysis (what user database is used by the application to connect to the database), you can use this query to get the sql statements and pl/sql.

    Select sql_text module, PARSING_SCHEMA_NAME,

    v $ sql

    where parsing_schema_name = upper ('& schema_name');

If you know the module, you can use the following query. For example, the .NET application can be w3wp.exe under the name of the module.

    Select sql_text module, PARSING_SCHEMA_NAME,

    v $ sql

    where module = "& my_module;

If you run the application and you want to watch the v$ sql at the same time, you can use this query.

    Select executions, sql_id, last_load_time, sql_text from v$ sql where users_executing <> 0;

    I hope that helps!

    Thank you

  • Upgrade VCSA to 6.0 "error has occurred in retrieving the names of virtual machine from the esx host"

Get this error when trying to upgrade from 5.5 to 6.0 VCSA. Any ideas on this one? It comes right after that I entered the user/pass/fqdn name for my virtual center device.

Step 1 relax step 2 use the hostname for your ESXi host target not the virtual center server.

  • Can what applications I withdraw from the autorun on the satellite?

    Hello

Of course, you can cancel the loading of the application of Toshiba at the beginning.
But you should know that if you cancel the loading of the application you will not be able to use special options and features of this laptop!
So, I wonder why someone buys a notebook with all the features and then used to use these applications.

As in the earlier announcement offers information about installed programs and tools you will find in the manual which is preinstalled on your laptop.

  • What is this error from the device Simulator?

weird! can someone help me. I am not able to use my Simulator to test my application. At start-up, Simulator gives following error.

    Error inside JVM:

    Follow these steps:

    1 out of the JDE

    2. run clean.bat located in the directory of Simulator and wait until it has finished

    3. run JDE

It should help. If this isn't the case - reinstall JDE and make sure you have the full privileges on the computer.

  • Curiosities: what happens if I restart the NFS server?

    Hi guys,.

I use Linux as a NFS data store. I'm just curious, regularly there as updates of the kernel, etc. that requires a reboot. What happens if I restart the NFS server without:

    1. turn off the virtual machine on it

    2. without disconnecting the ESXi host data store

What is the proper way to restart the NFS server?

    Thanks ^^

If you mean 'a good' (without no timeout error appears in the log), then delete NFS datastore is the whole procedure before you restart the NFS server. Unlike datastore VMFS, by removing the NFS datastore, that this will not completely remove the storage at all, instead you only remove it from the ESX host and you can reconnect the NFS mounting even whenever you want.

  • How can I remove a non-existent target ESX server from the list of vMA?

I added some ESX servers at VMAs using "lt & sudo vifp addserver; hostname & gt; ».  These servers have been removed before removing the VMA.  Since they are not online, I get the message when you do "sudo vifp removeserver & lt; hostname & gt; "below.  How can I remove them from the list of targets vMA?  Thank you.

Error: Unable to connect. Please make sure that the server is in place and is a supported version.

If you are using the latest version of vMA 4.0, you should be able to do the following:

    sudo vifp removeserver --force

When it ask for password, just type in whatever she should remove just with strength of the management host.

You can also take a look in the vMA configuration file that keeps track of hosts under management and erase the old entries:

    / etc/VMware/viconfig/viconfig. XML

    / Home/VI-admin /. VMware/credstore/vicredentials. XML

Who gives a try and see if it helps, it is always advisable to withdraw before the host decommission but option 1 work usually, from what I've seen.
