backup failed: 0x80070005 access denied

For the last few months when I try to save on DVD my computer is progressing well and uses 9 discs but then finally ends with "backup failed."  The reason given is "0 x 8007005 access denied."  Someone understands this.  What can do to sort it?

Mamahilz

Disable your antivirus and any other security program when you perform the backup.  Run the backup administrator.  Delete the compressed backup selection files.  Not back up anything other than your C:\ drive

Under your administrator account, recover rights fulll and take ownerhip of the totality of the C:\ drive using the following procedures.  If you can not make some folders, ignore them in greater numbers of them aren't as you can.

To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista: http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/.  To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.

To resolve this problem with folders, appropriating the files or the drive (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder/drive, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder/drive, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for files and folders/player who can change the required permissions.  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html.  To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

See if it works - otherwise we will check for a different solution.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

  • Compatible Windows Vista backup the failed 0x80070005: access is denied

I am more able to backup my PC.  It fails with a 0 x 80070005 (access) refused.  I carefully watched the backup trying to glean what file fails when it tries to read it for the backup.  It fails on a file on the C: drive, but it happens too fast.  I can't determine the file name and THE EVENT LOG IS NOT THE NAME OF THE LOG FILE.  I have no idea how to solve this problem. My last successful backup was dec 2010.

It would be a great start to save the file whose access is denied when the backup fails.  then we can proceed.

    Hi MickyLee3

You can check if the problem occurs in a clean boot state. You can check if no service interferes with the backup. To perform the clean boot follow step 1 mentioned in the article below, and then try again check in the clean boot state -

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

If the problem is resolved check which service non-Microsoft is the source of the problem; referring to article and following the other steps.

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    a. Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the start search box and press ENTER.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.

    b. on the general tab, click the Normal startup option and then click OK.

    c. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.

    I hope this helps.

I need a solution for the problem below.  I have seen that other people have experienced the same problem but I couldn't find a solution.

  • backup of Windows Vista failed due to access denied 0x80070005

I'm try to use a WD Passport essential 320 drive (8 months) as support for my daughter Gateway laptop (about 4 years old; 2 GHZ RAM, 150GB hard drive, 100 GB of free, USB ports are 1.0 only, sigh!).    Instead of using WD Smartware, try to use the backup utility Windows Vista (Basic, 32-bit).    I followed instructions from WD on this exactly, but every time I try the backup, which takes more than half an hour in what appears to be a valid backup operation, the backup stops abruptly with an error message indicating that the backup failed.  Error message States only: 0x80070005 - access is denied.  As far as I can tell, I attributed to full sharing for the drive and the drive itself shows as a separate with no partitioning drive.   Technical support (level 1) WD told me that they think that the drive itself is correct, that the problem is with Windows and that they could not help me with Windows problems.   Themselves to level 2 has said pretty much the same thing but offered through the messages of support from MS, but neither he nor I saw patches associated with Vista, only the XP machines.  What is the benchmark for my Vista operating system?   Thank you!

I have the same problem.  I have a WD external hard drive, I had the habit of saving on all the time with no problems.  January 2011, I have not had a successful backup and rather get moved out of the backup mid-term with error 0x80070005 access denied.  Have you ever found a solution?  I tried to turn off UAC, security, firewall, backup in safe mode, but nothing works.

  • TB update fails and I get an error of access denied to 7 - Zip when you download a new version.

Thunderbird was not able to update from version 24.6.0 (under Windows 7). Whenever I try to auto update, it tells me that the update fails. When I let the updater download a full version, which also fails. When I try to download a new version manually, during the extraction process, I get an error message indicating "7-Zip" up and "Access denied" in the window. I followed all the suggestions to the support download error page (as an administrator, stop the process of Thunderbird, etc.), and none of them solved the problem. Any other ideas?

What firewall / anti-virus software you are using. My guess is that the firewall or the anti virus software blocks both the update and full installation because it contains ZIP files. I have not heard that outside the paranoid company / parameters of business in the past, but there's always a first time.
