Backup utility

I have a pre installed (no disk) Windows XP Home Edition operating system. On this, there is no backup utility. Is it possible that I can upgrade or get a disc in order to have this function?

My Satellite came with Windows XP Home Edition.
MS inform that this happened with a Windows backup on his drive, BUT I don't him is not (of course, Toshiba has not provided a disk full XP, only their recovery and tools disks etc...).
Could someone please tell me where find/download this utility on the drives that I have provided with, or recommend an alternative.
    Thank you.

    Hi Nicolas,.

Please check if you have a folder called X:\VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP on your system. If you do it should contain some files which is called MSFT; in this folder, you will find the installer for NTBACKUP, which is the Microsoft Backup utility.

Remember that the Microsoft Backup utility does not support CD/DVD format.

  • Lost backup utility from One Care to Windows Live Essentials?

I recently transferred to Windows Live Essentials after my subscription to One Care became unavailable, the transition was easy and I found that Essentials is a great alternative, how ever when I realized that he was not back up installation included in the package, I returned to the accessories of Windows to back up my computer to my external hard drive.

Only to find that the backup facility had been removed when I removed One Care? I searched my machine and looked at restoring to an earlier installation of date back to the utility originally stae, but have had no joy.

Because all my back up to external hard disk refer to One Care (which is now removed) my machine does not recognize the back ups, and because One Care isn't here, too, there is no possibility to restore from the hard drive.

One has the same problem and is there a solution to restore Windows backup utility with doing a full reinstall and lose all my programs, files, data, ect? help urgently needed please!

I had the same problem after removing a care. Found the original disks supplied with the Microsoft XP Home Edition computer, browsed the disk and found the backup utility program it and reinstalled.

However, I think that the problem should not have occurredit the first place. I hope this helps.

  • Install the backup utility

I have a question that has been published by someone else several months back and only received no response.  I am trying to install my Windows XP cd Windows backup utility.  After inserting the cd, the instructions say click on leave and navigate to the "CDDrive:\ValueAdd\Mfst\Ntbackup" folder on the cd.  Where can I find this file so I can complete the installation of the backup utility?

The backup program is automatically installed on XP Professional, but not on XP Home.

For reasons unknown, MS Answer does not prompt for any information system when a new question is asked, so we don't know anything about your system.

If you have the genuine bootable XP Home installation CD, insert it into your system and navigate to this folder:

    \ValueAdd\MSFT\NTBACKUP

Double-click the Ntbackup.msi file to start the installation.

Here is a nice article from Microsoft which tell you all this:

Here is another article that explains how to:

  • In Windows XP, the BACKUP utility in system tools requires a floppy disk should be created when you back up an entire volume. Why should a disk be used?

As floppy drive are no longer included in laptops, the use of a USB storage device would make more sense now? Is this possible?

    Richard1952,

Yes, you should be able to select an area on which you want to record on.

Start > all programs > Accessories > system tools > backup: make sure to follow the installation instructions USB is plugged on when you start the backup utility.

Original title: the service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices is associated to him. (0 x 80070422)

    Hi Charles,

Welcome to the community Microsoft and thanks for posting the question. I'll certainly try and help you perform the backup.

Until we start could you give us some more information?

    1. Since when are you facing the issue?

    2. you have any anti-virus installed on the computer program?

    3. What are the troubleshooting steps correct you have taken to correct the problem?

    4. are you aware of any changes made to the computer before the show?

I suggest you to re check the service as long as this error usually occurs if one of the services required for the backup Windows for work is disabled or has not started.

To check the services, click Start, in the Start Search bar type services , and then press enter.

Please check that the following services are enabled:

-"Remote Procedure Call" (RPCSS) must be active, Automatic.

'COM + Event System"(System events) must beactivated en, Manuel.

-'System Event Notification Service"(SENSE) must be active, Automatic.

-"Volume Shadow Copy" (VSS) must beactivated en, Manuel.

'Microsoft Software Shadow Copy provider' (SWPRV) must beactivated en, Manuel.

Once you make changes according to the above specifications, you can try a backup and check to see if that solves the problem.

I also suggest you to run a SFC scan (System File Checker). This will replace the corrupted Windows files.

  • error 0 x 81000019 when you try to run the Windows backup utility

    original title: 0 x 81000019... Attention Microsoft

Error code 0 x 8100019 and a sub-code when you use the utility backup of Windows 7... Finally resorted to re - format and re-installation of Win 7, then ran backup before installing the Microsoft updates, which was a success.

Downloaded and installed the Microsoft updates and then run backup... back to the original problem. Logically, Microsoft, it appears that one or more of your updates has interfered with the Windows 7 backup utility... my time is limited and I paid for the product rather than be given to the problems with the product to sift... may your Tech run this through clean install and add each update to identify what, if any. are the cause of the problem?

I am running XP Professional SP 3.  Backup hangs at "preparing to backup using snapshot.  I'm using the wizard:

    "(Advanced) Backup Wizard.

"Backs up everything on this computer".

"Backing disk F up" which is a second drive on this computer and has more free space disk to back up.

When I started is just hangs at "preparing to copy using shadow copy.  I don't create a backup file of 2 k.  I have used with success of the utility on this same drive a few months ago.

  • Disable the windows backup utility

How can I disable the windows backup program?  I could not make a backup by using the utility for running Windows Vista.  Problem since upgrade to Windows 7.  The program continues at the prompt for a DVD and I would rather just turn off.

You could also disable the backup services service

Start > service.msc > Windows backup > stop the service.

  • Where is backup utility included in Windows XP Home CD family edition?

my new Toshiba Sat came with XP Home preinstalled. I have a MS XP book that says that the backup is not installed automatically by the Home Edition but on the XP disk in Ntbackup folder. He goes on to say that if the OS is pre-installed to contact the manufacturer for help in finding on the recovery cd «» I looked but can't find it...

I don't know, but I guess you find in Windows Explorer in the C drive, the i386 folder. Each time, the system to address certain files on CD facilities Microsoft see in this folder.

This folder is copied voluntarily to help users if the system needs facilities of Microsoft CD to copy some files.
