Batteries

When I bought my laptop (my third HP), I tried to find information on the maintenance of the battery.  My question was this: if I use the power adapter, can I leave it plugged or recharge the battery, let it drain, load, empty.  I couldn't find any information in the paperwork.  Help was no help.  The point of sale people said little "matter."  No where I hear or read about removing the battery.  Of course, I ruined the battery and now released an additional $ 130.  This should be in the paperwork that came with the computer.  I don't know that I'm not the only one with this problem.

your "point of sale" was completely false.  Leave the battery attached to the laptop all the time, especially if you mainly use it on food, is a very bad thing.

You should condition your battery by completing three complete cycles; fully charge the battery, unplug the charger, let the computer run on battery until it stops itelf, and then fully recharge the battery.  You also need at least a full charge/discharge cycle every 4 to 6 weeks.  If you do not want gbe using the battery for an extended period, power the computer until the battery has reached about 50%, shut down the computer and remove the battery.  Do not store the battery fully charged. Be aware that all lithium-ion and battery lithium-polymer self-discharge at a rate of about 2% to 5% per week, and if left stored for timely long, the battery will go "flat" and must be refurbished as shown above.

Batteries must be kept at moderate temperatures. Heat and cold can make your battery unable to develop a load.   Store the battery is so that nothing can touch the contacts and the short battery accidentally.

Your "point of sale" you has probably said the wrong thing either ignorance throught (many mistakenly believe that modern batteries don't require special care), or more probably because they want you to come back in a few months to buy a battery of expensive replacelment.

I have a HP laptop almost 4 year, and I'm still using the original battery.  It always gives me reasonable run times, and I don't expect to have to replace it at least another year. I followed the directions above; If you follow this way, there is no reason that you should notget several years of useful life of your battery.
