  No, no damage. You can set your load settings to get the best battery life out of the battery, but your laptop doesn't care anyway.

  Unplug the computer from the power adapter and turn it on. Let the computer battery power until the computer turns off, indicating that the battery is fully discharged.

  I have a Pavilion ZV5000 with XP pro sp3.  The battery is new.  The CC has been replaced.  Here are the symptoms:

  Battery recharge when the laptop is turned off.
