best viewfinder backup and fooled

I do work for a technology company and go to the houses of the people. I have a client this Saturday. She and her husband have 2 Apple computers, several external drives and lots of data! She would like to consolidate, organize, and get rid of duplicates and have a current backup. Here's what she told me that she has:

  • 2008 Mac desktop
  • MacBook Pro from 2013
  • 1 time capsule 2009 T
  • 2 3 external drives WD T
  • 1 Seagate 1.5 T
  • 1 4 T Seagate (almost empty)
  • 2 iPhone 6, 16 GB each I think
  • no paid plan icloud

Both computers are about overexploited, and external drives have a variable amount of files. Seems that this is just a bunch of stuff. She is not a videographer or something like that. Just a bunch of pictures, videos, documents, etc...

I'm more than one kind of PC to a guy, so while I got Macs and my way, I don't know what programs exist, nor what material, if any, that she would need, to manage this kind of a thing. So, I was wondering what would be a good game plan.

Should I buy him any additional equipment? What are the best software (s) for this kind of situation, especially for the double check, organize and create backups?

The best backup options are Apple Time Machine, a part of the operating system application and a third party, Carbon Copy Cloner of there.

  • Windows 7 backup and restore recording is not recent files (and task corrupted images)

I recently discovered that my Windows 7 backup and restore does not work properly and need help to fix it.  The backup runs daily, but it seems that he spared not the files that have been generated in the last month or so.  For example, I was not able to restore files that have been created last week, even if they have been backed up yesterday.

Any questions/comments that might relate to the question above:

-J' had to upgrade to Windows 10 for 1 month and then downgraded to Windows 7, about a month earlier due to some software doesn't work only with Windows 10.
-Last week, I realized that my automatic backup didn't work automatically.  I found the problem is due to a corrupt image of task in Task Scheduler I could fix.  I have developed from my backup with the recommended settings settings, and I discovered that the problem of missing file today.

-J' still have a problem with the images of task corrupted because when I open the Task Scheduler, I get about 70 errors which "XXXX task: the task image is damaged or has been tampered with."  Any help

Help for backup and the Task Scheduler issues would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!!

    Hello

Thanks for posting your query to the Microsoft forum. I will definitely help you with this.

This could be due to corruption on the system files, please follow the methods below.

Step 1: I suggest you to re-create the Task Scheduler.

Steps to re-create the Task Scheduler

    1. Click Start; in the start search type regedit.exe and press ENTER. (If you get a consent prompt, click Yes).
    2. Navigate to the following location. HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Schedule keys and remove its subkeys.
    3. Save the changes and then close the registry editor.

Now check if the Task Scheduler works.

Note: The steps mentioned below includes the modification of the system registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

Step 2: Perform the scan SFC

I suggest that you can exercise SFC scan and check if that helps. The sfc/scannow command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions. It is a Windows utility that allows users to find corruptions in Windows system files and restore the damaged files.

See the link: use the File Checker system to repair missing or corrupted system files

Please answer us with this information and the current state of your computer, we will be happy to help you further.

  • Backup and restore in Windows 7 will not make an incremental backup

    Hello.

I have about 400 GB of backup files, for most audio (I have a home studio). Backup and restoration continues to do a new backup full instead of an incremental backup. I tried to disable "Windows Media Sharing whatever" and has no effect. I found the registry entry that the so-called forces a backup under certain circumstances, if I understand correctly. I put the value '0' and he still makes no difference - copy Windows files that I know have not changed over the YEARS and to create a new full backup. My current full backup is December 2014 on a 1 TB external hard drive. It is the backup that I added to-probably on a maximum of 20 additional concerts.

This is important because in 400 concerts, I have neither the time nor the space to do a full backup every time. I searched these forums and around the web and found nothing more disable sharing of Windows Media Services. For now I'm reduced to manually copy the new audio files on a backup drive, which is heavy at least when dealing with the whims of my Audio sequencer for recording methods and organization of files.

Please let me know how I can make an incremental backup instead of a full backup of my hard drive. Thanks for your help.

IMHO, I wouldn't play with the built-in backup.  It is, at best, kludgy, depends on the OS partition, is inflexible and not easy to use.

IMHO, I would not trust my data or spend my time on it.

Everything goes well except in emergency control panel and restore does not work. Screenshot see attachment. Clicking in the pane does nothing.

    Hello Gerry,.

Yes it is the service Windows backup that I put on automatic to get Control Panel Backup and Restore works again.

After your post I put it to manual and it always of the functions.

I thought initially that Auto was the best in that sense, it runs automatically. What is the functional difference between manual and automatic startup type settings?

Win 7 Backup and Restore does not recognize the USB flash drives for a backup image or a recovery disc.  Given that Windows 7 Starter Edition is used in many, if not most of the netbooks and netbooks have no optical drive, support for flash (thumb) drives would be very handy, especially for repair and recovery.

  • Backup and recovery strategy?

    Hello

Asked me to provide/formulate the strategy of backup and restoration for the new env Oracle under construction. Currently, all this is done by 3rd party and they do not share nothing with me :-) Customer will take the place of servers in the near future.

Here is some info from the environment:

Env: There are four production databases. All are 10 gr 2 (10.2.0.5) on RHE Linux 5.8. All transactions on databases are through various batch and then the data is used by some applications/search engines.

Current backup info: There is an incremental backup of level 1 made on daily basis and a level 0 is made every week. In addition, the archivelogs are backed up every hour. After each successful level 1 backup the archivelog saved that day there are deleted. I guess that is the case with level 0 backups. Retention is 30 days.

New env: I learned that backups will NOT go to bands. On the contrary, they will be stored on the disk. So I guess that no special backup software (netbackup, comvault, etc.) will only be used. I tried, but no one confirms this hypothesis.

I believe that above approach can be reused. But if I am preparing a 'Backup and Recovery Strategy document' with this detail, it will be a one page document. I don't know if this is enough information to go in this document.

Please advise what must be regarded, sought and documented.

    Best regards

And I also, since which is, more or less, what I do with my databases (TENs). The only difference is that the archivelogs are deleted immediately after the backup.

  • Document the backup and restoration

Is there some general best practices when it comes to document how your process to backup/restore your oracle databases?

I'm always afraid that if only an admin understand how backup/restore procedures works for critical business systems, if they left the organization that someone fill their shoes may be hard to understand the process and then if a restore is necessary may not able to complete the restoration.

But being not not a DBA myself, what kind of details should they document. What kind of details you document in your organizations?

Also, how many times do you check by database restorations?

Whenever you provide post your Oracle version 4-digit (result of SELECT * FROM V$ VERSION)

Your fears are justified. One of the risk factors more important that an org has is when these key knowledge has not been documented, were reported badly or only exists in the mind of one or several persons.

Here is a presentation of the excellent white paper of the Oracle world that covers this exact topic

    Oracle Database Backup and restore
    Best practices and new features
    http://www.Oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/availability/311394-132335.PDF

This presentation includes an overview of the backup/restore of the issues and possible solutions, as well as a case study.
You essentially have a similar paper for your own organization.

Your first steps should be to do what you did in this forum: gather ALL the information and documentation of your peers and the management of it on backup and restore procedures, if any, exist.

Implying that the step #1 is actually identify (i.e. to make a list of contacts) of the key people in your company with information either in written form or in their own head.

The most important resource is to start with your own expert.

Check out the latest collection of any type that have been made recently and collect information about the way they did. It is much more important to begin with better understand how your own org backup/restore, rather than learn best practices. Best practices do you much good in an emergency if your org does not follow them first.
    >
Also, how many times do you check by database restorations?
    >
It depends on the size and complexity of the system, but for the big orgs that I contracted with I usually recommend at least an annual process.

I also recommend you use any offline storage process include the creation of checksums of the backup files. This ensures that, in case the files are needed, they can be added again check to make sure that there has been no corruption. Too many times the files are archived just without any test and then when they needed it turns out that they are corrupt. If you have never made a backup copy of a CD or DVD and then later discovered it wouldn't work you know what I mean.

    In summary:

    1. start by talking to people keys to the knowledge
2 document available and stored in a central location
    3. start a mini-project to fill the gaps in the existing literature and knowledge
4 learn the best practices in the field (what you're asking here)
    5. begin to migrate your orgs practices based on best practices.

Good luck! We need more people like you who are interested in this topic.

  • How to work the optimization backup and the backup retention period?

I'm a little confused on how these 2 features will work together.

Incase I enabled optimization backup and have retention backup value someday. Then I have this tablespace 'users', which is read-only. Please let me know if my understanding is correct.

    Date................ Action................................ Backup
    -----
    Monday... Full backup... 'users' saved
    Tuesday... Full backup... 'users' unsaved
Wednesday... Delete Obselete... backup 'users' deleted
    Thursday... Restore database...?

I was wondering if at Thursday I'm still able to restore the database if tablespace 'users' are deleted?

    Hello;

Someday - the retention value, it is much too low. You may lose more than your example of demand. Set the highest. (Start with 2 or 3 and test, test, test)

How backup works of optimization in what concerns the retention policy?

RMAN only works with files during the retention period.

For example, consider a backup optimization with a retention period of 5 days.

RMAN will only compare the data file with backup within the period of 5 days games - even if the data file it as backup has not changed in this 5 days.

So be very careful. Given your political retention is so low, I would not use optimization.

I was wondering if at Thursday I'm still able to restore the database if tablespace 'users' are deleted? Very good luck, you will lose data.

Test your period of detention inside and outside before look you at optimization.
