Earlier today (February 13, 2015) I received a call from a representative of "Windows Care."  My phone number has shown not available 1-000-000-0000, regret picking up the phone.  An individual strong accent probably (India or Pakistan) knew my name and tried to scare me giving him access to my computer (Note: your name and phone number are public and readily available documents).  I played the game for a few minutes.  He informed me that his company manages Microsoft software problems and called to warn me that my computer was being hacked.  To prove that my computer has a problem he directed me to accomplish the following acts - press / hold the Microsoft key and press R.  He asked me type eventvwr.  At this point I asked the phone number and Web site - after the reception I ended the call.

The provided phone number was (786) 245-1265 and the website www.windowscare.us.  I really hope there's a way Microsoft can follow the thief and put them out of business.

    It's a scam.

    Better ignored.

Cybercriminals don't just send e-mails fraudulent and created fake sites Web.

They also call on the phone and pretend to be able to solve problems, they "know" that you have.

Never let an unknown person take control of your computer.

  • Sometimes when you try to click on a link, instead of the hand, I get the arrow and clicking on sending me to the scam site. How can I fix it?

This happens with many different sites, but only occasionally. I reloaded Firefox, run Norton Utilities, Malwarebyes Anti-Malware program several times. Scam sites vary, false updates of Firefox, bidding sites, a lot of different. If I wait about 30 seconds, the arrow goes to a hand and I can click to get to where I want to go. I can simply close the scam site and hand returns to the site of origin.

    Help!

    Thank you.

    Matthew

You have MyWordTool in your list of extensions. Malwarebytes should detect it.

You can try to remove it from the Add-ons Manager (press Ctrl + Shift + A to open it), category of Extensions. If this is not possible, then try to uninstall from the control panel while Firefox is closed.

You can try Malwarebytes Chameleon, which gets Malwarebytes Anti-Malware running on infected computers. Don't forget to check for definition updates after installation.

I also note that you have two extensions of Norton disabled. You may want to reactivate if you have disabled them yourself, or looking for updates if they are disabled because they are incompatible with your version of Firefox.

If the problems persist, there are other tools, you can try and forums specialized in the removal of malware. See the section "How to get rid of malware?" in the following article.

  • The scam alerts

CAUTION: Scam phone in my view, that notice must get all users to Microsoft, as a company who asked me (but say they do not sell anything) had my mailing address & not my mailing address & my two latest computer purchases came from HP. There is a company in Los Angeles (possible ID is computer X Spot GA with a phone # of 323-522-5336) who say that they do not sell anything. "they are the authorized representative of Microsoft" and there is a serious issue w / the o/s. We ask you to go to your computer and connect with them, but I refused to do it and told them to send the info to my address of record, which was not the street address, they gave me. My phone & DSL provider has received several complaints & informed me that the "scam" is to make you leave on your desktop in order to correct the problem from Microsoft & they install a virus, they can fix for a fee. DON'T LET SOMEONE GET ON YOUR DESKTOP THAT YOU DON'T KNOW.  This does not refer to your Technical Support HP, but against spam or "SPONTANEOUS" telephone scams  I contacted the FTC and recommend to anyone getting a call like THIS to go to WWW.FTC.GOVor TELEPHONE THEM at 1-877-382-4357 to file a complaint.  It is this type of people who are "attacking" people who are too confident and find themselves with a computer has crashed and unnecessary problems for their future.  Note what has apparently been going on for a while, but the FTC needs to pressure to bring SCUM to the point of reckoning for their SCAM hobby.  I have notified HP, but it is recommended that users be warned & notify no friend not warned of this problem.  TKS... Warry

Thanks for the alert, as people need to be aware of this scam!

I might add who once the scammer has access to the computer for what they claim to do, your and your data is at risk of ID theft, loss of stolen credit card information and bank account.

Never, ever allow a caller where you do not have to trigger the call, to have access to your PC.

  • Should I change my password? I was dumb enough to think it was windows technical support, and gave the man of the scam.

I fell for the scam, but did not purchase.  I didn't give it my password; do I need to change?

I would change it principles immediately.  What can hurt?

    Good luck.

  • Beware of the MacKeeper

When installing MacKeeper, claiming to be "clean and protect your Mac" software he installed several pieces of adware and scareware which not only bore you and invites you to buy stuff you don't want or need but are possible phishing sites. I downloaded and installed under the impression that he was free. The announcement led me to download, he stated that he was free. I discovered that it was free to download, but cost money to use. I ran and concluded that he would do nothing unless you paid, I paid for one month of use ($19.95) and he ran. He said that he found and repaired somewhere about 12 000. Immediately I started to receive Web pages popping up trying to sell me software Reimage and foreclosed homes, etc. I ran MacKeeper again and it found and corrected a number of problems. Then, I decided to check it out and ran a battery of 10 times and each time he finds and repaired several different issues. How can issues arise only once to another when I didn't do anything else? I uninstalled MacKeeper and requested a refund. I immediately started to receive Web pages supposed to be Apple and similar to official pages on the Apple site informing me that I had three viruses and that the only course of action was to download MacKeeper (I saved bookmarks to these sites just in case I could find a place to report them to and when I try to go there, I get a warning that it is a suspected phishing site.) This happen several times per hour. In the meantime, I will continue to get windows trying to me but Reimage, foreclosed homes, MacKeeper or what have you. Sometimes, I'd get a vertical Ribbon about 2.5 "wide ALLERT saying me do nothing at all until I called Apple Support to the number they give me or asking me to chat online with Apple support representatives. Finally, I used EtreCheck to find the malicious files on my system and crossed the tedious task to find and remove them. However EtreCheck has provided me with the paths to them.

All the apps 'cleaning' are scams. There are still worse examples as 'MacKeeper.

Extract of effective defenses against software malware and other threats:

    • Never install a product that claims to 'clean up', 'speed', 'optimize', 'boost' or 'speed up' your Mac; to "wash", "tune" or to make it "brilliant". These allegations are absurd.
      • These products are marketed very aggressively. They are all scams.
      • They usually operate on the erroneous premise that Mac builds 'junk' that must be systematically 'cleaned' for optimum performance.
      • Trial versions of these programs are successful because they provide more instant gratification of free space on the disk.
      • This increased space is the result of irreversible destruction of files, programs or operating system components normally protected against accidental tampering or removal. The eventual result will be the reliable operation, poor performance and random crashes that may not become evident for months, or even years after their use, when updates of programs or OS X are finally released.
      • Memory "cleaners" that bypass the work of OS x memory management algorithms by purging the memory contents inactive for mass storage, which can only result in performance degradation and accelerated the hardware failure.

I got a text saying that my account has been locked due to suspicious activity and unusual sign in attempts to Apple. They put a link in the text to go to so I can't unlock my account which is www.apple.auth1.uk...i have typed on this link and it asks me to get my name, address, date of birth, mobile, etc., I fill this part, he then took me to another page asking me for all my card and bank details once again that I have not entered and have decided to close the link I have fear that this is a scam... Can someone help me on this please?

It's a scam. It is always a scam.

Change all of your passwords. If you have any information that would allow thieves to access your car credit or bank information notify your credit card company and the banking institutions of the possible breach. They know what to do. If you have spent on information allowing thieves to steal your identity, notify the police as well.

    Hello

Calls unrequested telephone of this nature are almost always a common scam. Do not let them give any info, do not give access to your PC, not give them all the money and do not go to all the websites that they suggest. One moment.

    Please see:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-GB/security/online-privacy/avoid-phone-scams.aspx

Microsoft issues never not solicited for phone calls of support or security.

These types of callers can use completely fictitious names or bogusly claim to be of real companies other than Microsoft as well.
