Black screen on Dell Vostro 1400 laptop

After installation of microsoft update last night and reboot I now a black screen at any time.  The computer will start and has sound, but you cannot see anything on the screen even in startup mode.  I tried an external monitor and got a screen but it was just a bunch of colors flickering on the screen.  Any ideas?

Hello

You can access Mode safe? Repeatedly press F8 as you start? If yes you can try Control Panel - device
Manager - graphics card - Double click on - driver tab - click on UPDATE driver - then right click
on devices and UNINSTALL - REBOOT.

Press F8 several times and last good known Configuration is possible.

Another method to try to get to the desktop (try in normal Windows Mode without failure)
CTRL + ALT + DELETE and on the tab process EXPLORER.exe and COMPLETE the PROCESS on this subject - then
on the Applications tab - lower right - new task - type in EXPLORER.exe.

If you can access the SafeMode or Windows, then a system restore might work.

Black screen problems are extremely difficult to repair and all patch is usually on a base hit or miss.
That there is no information on a black screen as it is on a blue screen just adds to the
Difficulty. Often using a restore point or Startup Repair will have no effect. You can try a
Google to see the proposed repairs, whom some have worked however these cover a wide
field efforts.

This may seem to me like your monitor hardware problem, the best thing to do will be to open a ticket for Lenovo. If the machine is guaranteed that they will cover, otherwise they will charge you. But I know not complete.

But maybe you can specify what type of movement you made for your black screen, a slight movement of the screen when you move it over the hinges? , or is it when you disconect the laptop power and lift all the computer? What happens if you move slowly? How do you need to move it to the screen turns off?

If you have no splash screen (Dell, Acer, Logo etc.) or instructions at the bottom of the screen to enter the BIOS (F2, delete, etc.) when you start your computer, you have a hardware problem.

If under warranty, contact the manufacturer. If it is not under warranty, contact a repair shop, local.

  • Dell Optiplex 3020 - the black screen after dell logo (happened after windows updates froze at halfway and systems were restarted)

We had windows updates run on all our systems of windows 7 in our medical center.  13 or so of our 3020 s Optiplex froze for eight hours about in a State of "install updates 1 of 24".  I have all them turned off and restarted units.  Once units have been restarted, they gave the Security windows startup or start-up option normally.  Those who had selected the option to 'start normally' would display the logo dell at startup, then click on a completely black screen (all devices still in market and monitors recording an active signal even if no picture).   Those started in safe mode w/o networking, loaded in safe mode.  I rebooted the machine in safe mode, and they all started out in windows without problem.

For systems that go completely black after the dell logo.  I am able to F2 in the BIOS, I can run diagnostics from BIOS and I can't F12 in boot options, but I cannot F8 or SHIFT + F8 mode without failure or fact start in safe mode, please come under early start options.

Anyone happen to know a way to launch a system of 3020 optiplex in safe mode without the use of F8, SHIFT + F8, go through msconfig or remote access to the registry (because I can not remote in the system on the network)?

Maybe I can put the hard drive in a dock and change the registry in this way?  But can I change the potentiometer to force secure boot? or is it not possible to make a bcdedit to it as an external drive, install it in his camera and force it to safe boot the next time, he is running?

Any ideas or suggestions would be very appreciated.

    Hello

No saving necessary data and re-installing Windows Vista might be the best option, but here
    are a few others.

You can save your files by putting the drive in another computer as a 2nd disk (best) or external
Drive USB enclosure and then backup to removable media such as CD, DVD or other USB drives.
Of course a real store of the computer or the manufacturer of your system can help to recover the files.

Or you can use a boot Ubuntu CD to back up data.

I cannot locate a driver through web search - how do I know what are the devices? and where can I find a driver?

Try to update the drivers using Windows Update.  If this does not work, try the versions of Vista of Intel and Ricoh under Chipset drivers on the website of downloads & drivers for Vostro Notebook 1500 . Make a restore point first.

Start the computer in safe mode (press F8 continuously immediately after power and don't worry beeps when you press the button) and let it boot without a network.  Once there right click on the desktop and then click Properties.  Click settings and the value of the monitor mode (640 X 480) VGA or SVGA (800 X 600).  Accept the changes and restart the computer.  You should have a mediocre screen, but you should see it now.  Download and install the appropriate drivers for your video card in the laptop to the web site of the manufacturer of the laptop.  Install the drivers and then you should be able to set the display of the laptop to the correct native resolution for your computer monitor (must be in the documentation of the laptop).
  • black screen on startup of studio15 Dell laptop

Dell studio1535 laptop... After turning on, the dell logo appears, then it goes to a black screen.  I ran a diagnostic test and I get no error.  He will not start in safe mode, so I can't try the recovery system or Startup Repair because there is no start button.  I have the vista cd, but it doesn't work when I put it.  I called dell, but my warranty has expired.  They tell me there's something I have to do to get the cd to work, but they don't tell me what it was unless I paid 50.00 that I did not immediately.  can someone help me?  Thanks in advance.

    Hello

Look at the screen as you start at the top and go to settings/settings (BIOS/CMOS) and set the boot on CD/DVD order
    1. don't forget later.

    ====================

You can access Mode safe? Repeatedly press F8 as you start? If yes you can try Control Panel - device
Manager - graphics card - Double click on - driver tab - click on UPDATE driver - then right click
on devices and UNINSTALL - REBOOT.

Safe mode is reached
by tapping F8 as you start several times.

If necessary and you can access all ordinary Windows.

You can try an In-Place Upgrade (hopefully save programs and data) or a repair installation (if all goes well
saves the data, and you need to reinstall the programs). Be sure to do a good backup or three.

You can use another DVD that are not protected but you will need to copy you have the product key.
