  Verizon Wireless Customer Service has been able to explain the problem and solve it.  For those interested here it is:

  BlackBerry Internet Service provides functionality to auto-connect to new users that does not require a user name and password.

  The user must click the settings icon to email on the BB and then click on the link create username.

  Once the username is created, you can go to www.blackberry.com/go/vzw and change the signature options.

  Then you can try upgrading the BBM to the latest version available for your device?

  Make that first make a local backup of your BBM contacts, after backup, delete or uninstall any existing version of your BlackBerry. On your home screen, go to Options > Advance Options > application > BlackBerry Messenger > delete BlackBerry Messenger of this list (highlight BBM press on the menu key and select delete)

  Further... How the hell would I change the compatibility of your BB? You realize, I hope, that by posting on this forum, you ARE NOT in any way, shape or form supported or even communication with anyone of the RIM, not you?   If it's the words they used, they are not quite accurate. Any BB can be used on any carrier that is running the same radio frequencies that the BB is capable of (and I have no idea if your in are such). But, to bring you a BB on a carrier network that they don't sell, there are several obstacles to overcome:

  (1) the carrier must say 'yes' to the fact... they are owners of their network and have every right to say what devices will be allowed to connect to it. If they say 'no', then it's the end of it.

  (2) you must be sure that your BB is properly unlocked since its origin manufactured for carrier... see this thread useful for more details:

  (3) you must get all our voices works on the carrier, before you even try anything on data level services

  5 (a) if the carrier directly supports your specific model BB, then you can proceed to the registration of the BB on their network, generating adequate for your BB service book delivery and treatment of the function.

  5 (b) but, if the carrier does not directly your BB-specific model number, then the challenges are much more that most of the carrier's systems will deliver, for BB, the service books required to enable BB exclusive data services, even if you have subscribed to them.

  So, based on this, your BB may or may not ever any function on this carrier network. It can be quite difficult to achieve, especially if 5 b applies. Then take a look at this and decide how you want to move forward. Most people end up just buying a new BB if 5b applies.

  If you have a wheel... Press your alt key and click on the wheel at the same time. You should have a choice to show all

  If you have a trackball... simply click on your menu to the left of the trackball button and you should have an option to show all the.

  My BBM has disappeared from the BB app world, even if I type Blackberry Messenger in the search engine of the app world it shows a few apps from third party bt not the BBM real application itself...

  I currently have 6.2.0.56 BBM version and therefore cannot be updated to BBM 7...

  A few weeks ago, BBM is available for download on App world bt, it was still 6.2.0.56 version not BBM 7. .and BBM 7 released by RIM in December. Now its gone compleletly.

  I will stay in India... If BBM 7 not made available to the Indian BB users by RIM? and when it will be available?

  Or there are some issues with App world?

  And also done BB travel works in India coz I know for cards is BB n traffic BB does not.

  The reason is that carriers in India have not agreed to support the voice feature of BBM again.

  You should complain to your mobile service providers.

  If you have a data plan in which every other BlackBerry feature works correctly, BBM should be included in it.  If such a plan exists where you pay separately for BBM, I have not heard of him.

  Whenever random strange behaviors creep, the best thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the hood back and remove the battery. Wait a minute, then replace the battery and cover. Power on and wait patiently through the long reboot - about 5 minutes. See if things return to functioning. Like all computing devices, this one suffers memory leaks and other... with a hard reboot is the best remedy. Some have taken to do this on a recurring basis as a preventive measure.

When they need to purge the profile for applications, because they continue to occur. -Why I would accept these if they come through spam... the PIN isn't on the web anywhere, it's a security issue RIM must address.

  HII, I have the Curve 8520 with OS 5. I tried to upgrade my BBM when because of an emergency, I had to cancel the download. After that the BBM worked well for as 15hours. It was when I tried to open a BBM group which was shown a restart option. I rebooted after what uninstalled the entire application. I can't find it on the app world. Or when I am trying to reinstal it is installing. It displays an error. Everything else works fine.
