BlackBerry Smartphones Newbie question Outlook synchronization...

I know, I know you crackberry Masters must make fun of my basic question, but it drives me crazy.

I want to curve. I'll use it for personal and business email accounts. Work email is through MS Exchange. I can access my email using Microsoft Outlook Web Access. Our server does not have this fancy/expensive Blackberry Enterprise Software Solution.

Can I still sync my email to my Blackberry Wireless and untethered work? What are the downsides to not have the fancy software / expensive?

You'll be always my friend, if you can answer this fundamental question in simple terms.

Hi anrobb!

You will be able to receive your email wireless without the BlackBerry Enterprise Solution (BES). You can use the BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) to deliver your email. There are two ways this can be accomplished:

1-direct integration of your account Outlook Web Access (OWA). Here, you must create an BIS account and enter your information to OWA, such as the web address of the OWA server, your email address, mailbox name and password. BIS will use this information to analyze your mailbox for new messages at a time interval determined (basically every 15 minutes) and send it to all new mail he sees to your BlackBerry.

2. create a hosted mailbox and set up a redirection rule. Most (if not all) carriers offer only a free hosted BlackBerry e-mail address when you have a BlackBerry plan. For example, a customer of Verizon could create an email [email protected]. E-mail messages that are sent to these hosted email addresses are pushed to the device, so they come almost in real time. Once you have set up, hosted email address you (or your IT staff) define a redirection rule in your mail server to forward a copy of all new messages to the hosted e-mail address. The next step would be to connect to your BIS account and modify the reply-to field to be your professional email address. This it will bring up that the emails sent from your BlackBerry come from your work email.

A difference in the use of the use of BIS on BES is that you cannot synchronize wireless your address book, calendar, notes and them tasks with BIS - you will need to connect to a computer. BES offers many other features as well, but I won't get it here.

See you soon!

  • 2 blackBerry Smartphones newbie questions: do I need it, and how I spoil my phone?

    Sorry for the newbie questions:

My IT has already set up my phone to receive email from their Blackberry Enterprise Server.

    (1) do I still need to install the desktop software?  Given that I can transfer files via Bluetooth from my laptop and my contacts/calendar/notes are stored on the Exchange Server, is there any point?

    (2) if I do not need to install it, given that my email is already working with BES, and the Office installation configures email settings, how do I keep the new Desktop install to mess up the current configuration of e-mail?

Of all the notes of support on the software, looks like more trouble whereas at this stage.  I really need to treat it?

    Thank you.

There is not much need of DTM, but it is convenient to update the OS of your BB. Sometimes there will be releases of minor bugs corrections and such to your BB - DTM will be meaningless and install them, while updating wireless could not detect them. For a major OS update, you want DTM, as it will do a backup/complete restoration of your BB, including configuration settings, and others so that you don't have to redo those. But, to your e-mail, calendar, contacts, etc. - you are right, it is useless given that your Exchange Server is actually your master with your BB being actually a backup of that (in a sense).

In addition, USB drivers (which are part of the package DTM) are necessary in order to charge your BB via your laptop USB. You can download and install all the USB drivers if this is the only part of the DTM you want.

When you install it, it will ask if you are in a company - say Yes and it will install properly. Installation when your PC is connected to your corporate network and your Outlook is open. Who will get the best and fastest configuration. When you install, do not let it select the functions of auto-launch... If you wish, attach your BB and manually run the DTM.

Of all the notes of support on the software, looks like more trouble whereas at this stage.  I really need to treat it?

    Thank you.

Basically, on the whole, I vote 'YES'. You get the USB charging. You can save if you wish. You get the device OS and other updates. Most of the reported problems are people using it to synchronize via USB things - you won't do that because most of your stuff will be syncing via BES OTA. Other things, you can simply drag-and - drop (music, videos, etc.). .. .follow these instructions (use the latest 5.0 DTM):

The version of the OS in the mine is 7.1.0.746 (2108), I was invited by the service 7.1 bundle downgrade and backup center 1646, which I am not ready to do what it takes forever and I have to reinstall all the software back and set up e-mail. This happens usually when application runs in the background, or because of any unknown third-party application installed within our system, or due to lack of memory. Reboot to shoot some time A battery is enough to solve this problem. If press and hold the Menu for a few seconds, it will appear a screen that will display all the programs running in the background, usually five will always be there (host, BBM, Message, phone, browser) you can always check if any other applications. are running in the background, if they then close them properly.

We should always try to close Applications correctly - avoid using key end to close the applications because it just minimizes the application and let it run in the background. Instead, press the Menu key, select close or Exit to exit the application. Do not leave your browser open on a page of Web active when not in use. • Sync gmail contacts OK blackBerry Smartphones, but can not synchronize Emails

    Dear Blackberry community!

I recently changed my contract mobile and kept my professional Blackberry Curve 9300.

I managed to configure gmail and synchronize contacts & the order of the day, but I can't seem to synchronize emails.

It seems to me that the old configuration blocking private Email-addresses is still active, but I don't know where and how to change.

Thanks a lot for your help!

    Cheers, Inken

Hello and welcome to the community!

Of what you say, I read that you had BES enabled on your BB, you have separated from the company/what BES now, but your BB was not properly cleaned of it's political, that continues to limit the things. To remedy this, you perform a specific wiping of your BB as follows:

    1. First of all, review the link of my auto-sig about backups... this process will completely clean your BB and you have to start over.
    2. Once ready, follow this KB to clean your BB of the it policy:
      • KB31291 How to reset a BlackBerry smartphone to factory using BlackBerry Desktop Software Settings
    3. When / if you restore, DO NOT do a full restore, restore only those databases that are essential, especially to avoid those who have something to do with the company, BES, political, etc.. If you fail at this stage and all restore, you simply put it on your BB policy and be right where you started.

    Good luck!

  • BlackBerry smartphone data truncated during synchronization - the note field size can be increased?

I find that some data is truncated on the "BOLD" when my "BOLD" with Outlook synchronization. This is a problem for some of my bigger contact and entries of calendar notes.

Is it possible to increase the size of these fields on the device must match which allows Outlook (or at all)?

    ... Thank you!

It turned out that only some 200 entries truncated calendar had an atttachment, but some appeared to have a symbol (small rectangle) character that seems to replace a in the subject line. In my opinion, that they were introduced during a synchronized using an earlier version of Desktop Manager when I was with a Blackberry 8700.

Re: problem of truncation: when syncing with the "BOLD", I discovered that in each case that a few words at most have been lost from the entries, regardless of the initial term. When I took the time to check them individually, most were not serious for me.

Then... I still don't understand why it happened, but I was able to fix the problem for now.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones Slow sync/outlook appts missing

I have a BB Pearl 8120, sync desktop manager 4.7 with Outlook 2003 on XP laptop via the USB port.  I'm syncing addresses, notes, tasks and calendar.  I have two questions:

    (1) it takes a very long time to synchronize.  He said I have something like 13 k entries.  I'm new on BB... used a Palm PDA and synchronization was performed in only a fraction of the time that it takes for the BB (it takes between 15-60 min to synchronize on BB... the same calendar on Palm took 1-2 min).  There any other app that I can use to synchronize or is there some tricks to speed up synchronization?

    (2) I started missing a lot of calendar items on my Outlook... it was missing most of the 2008 and some of 2007.  Today, I found the appointment in the folder of file deleted from Outlook.  As far as I know, when I do a synchronization, it moves appts. in Outlook, in the folder deleted.  Is this normal?  How can I stop doing that?  I looked in some areas to see if I can find a switch to turn on turn off, but finding nothing that looks like it is the culprit in the office s/w or outlook.  I did the whole office to synchronize only a certain number of days before and after today... I reset that to synchronize all.  I'm nervous to synchronize now, I don't want to have outlook trashed again.  Any ideas?

I think I found the answer to both problems... I have another problem I'll post separately.

The issue of the speed is greatly improved by iconizing Office of BB (thanks to another poster who posted this tip).

I also found another post I think that fixed dropping out of outlook appointment - he changed the flag on the device under options. actions; and change to keep appointments forever.  Since to change that and change outlook synchronization to transfer all items, I saw not all items fall off.

I get no error message. It just does not - synchronize when he's done before.

I tried to remove my calendar entries and Outlook synchronization device to the device with no luck.  Any suggestions?

Thank you.  This looks like a good solution and I'll try it next time.  Meanwhile, I tried something else that worked and who can help others with the same problem

  • BlackBerry smartphones my questions on the Storm 2 9520

Hello everyone I do not have a Blackberry but I intend to update my phone soon and get a (I currently have a Nokia N95 8 GB). I looked through the list of Blackberry models, and the 9520 that I fell in love was the Storm 2 9520. I will probably get one, but I have several questions that I couldn't find clear answers on google. I'm picky about details on a phone, so I want to know everything before get you it. Here is the list of things that I had on my mind:

-J' read that this phone records videos in 3gp format and not mp4. I'm a little worried about that, because I feel 3gp is less intense than mp4 by Windows (Win 7 user here). For example, 3gp, I filmed with an old phone years ago don't even open correctly in most players and no audio. So, is the format the phone records in playable correctly in Windows (Linux too)?

-J' I always rename my pictures and my videos after taking. With the 9520, you can click a button or menu entry to rename an image / clip immediately after making it? Or they be saved with a name only automated, and you need to open your file browser and navigate to the file to be renamed?

-A curiosity, I got on the touch screen if it is based only on the detection of heat or by pressing physics too. What I've seen, the heat detection is used when you lightly touch the screen and select the stuff / drag, while only pressing is used actually click. I'm curious because I could use my phone outside in the winter when I have leather gloves, and the screen can not detect my body energy then. Of course, it is difficult to use any phone with gloves, but I sometimes do to some extent

-Use the charger micro-usb port, or another port? I know that some devices that use USB for charging and connection to the computer, which is a method that I prefer in general. No problem if it is not, just curious.

-In the specs of the phone, it says maximum 8 GB micro-SD cards are supported. Someone can confirm that more cards are inconsistent and do not work (16 / 32 GB ones)?

-J' read on a website that the only way to configure e-mail is to have a Blackberry Enterprise Server (do not exactly know what what). But you need to register with Blackberry using a classic IMAP / POP email account (like gmail or yahoo mail)? And besides, you need to register with any Blackberry service to use 3 G internet supplier or to use messenger (YIM MSN and AIM)? I'm guessing not, but always ask to be sure.

-J' heard some phones have this limit / problem, so just to be safe: can put you MP3 transferred from your computer as ringtones? Or do you need to download them online from special services, as I heard some phones force you to?

-J' read on several websites that there are complications with the installation of applications via the data cable. That's how I install most of my programs of others on phones. So if I have a jar or jad file on my desktop, is there no possible to install it via data cable unless I have an additional file with it? Same question for no java Blackberry applications.

-All Web sites mention that the OS 5 web browser does not support flash on web pages (which I find quite sad). However, I can still play the files flash directly from my phone so I just open the swf file?

-Can you play audio files in ogg / wav format? In addition, it can play video ogv, avi or mpeg?

-Can I download themes for it that change the icons and colors of the menus? I guess the definition of custom screen (independent of the subject) shouldn't be a problem. Also, is there a free software that allows you to create your own themes and exporting it to the phone via data cable?

-Are there also a front-facing camera for 3G video chat?

-J' read on the differences between the 9520 and 9550 and that the 9550 has a frequency of additional network, sure it can work. Everyone says that you can not use a Blackberry in America if you buy it in Europe, in particular the 9520. Is this true? And the more vital than the 9520 9550 compatibility?

-OS 6 will come to the 9520 too? Some sites say it won't, while than others whether in devices that it will support an update. Hope very much it will be

-Finally, this could be a sensitive issue and I don't know how poorly seen on it is here. But it's easy to unlock / debrand the 9520? I would like to get the latest versions of firmware and do not have the limited phone.

Someone mentioned the provider to branding is not done for commercial reasons, but in order to keep the compatible phone (and shouldn't even be illegal to debrand). So I think it should be ok.

Yes, they are a lot of questions that may seem ridiculous. I got this phone for several years, so I want to know all about it. Thanks to all those who can help you meet them, and keep up the good work with phones

3GP is the native video recording format. All you need is the codec on your PC to read. I downloaded a free transcoder and it not only transcode avi (and other formats) for me, but also to put the codec appropriate in what I can play natively without transcoding. QuickTime, I think a codec were also held. There are plenty of audio and the recorded video.

Hmmm... haven't really tried to do... worst case, of course you can rename them later.

In fact, storm BBs use two detection of heat as well as the physical press. It's called SurePress technology. Heat detection determines where on the screen you touch and then physical pressure activates the 'click' somehow. The entire screen is great physical button, whose activity is determined by your finger on the screen position when you press. As such, I doubt it'll work with gloves on at all. I know, on the ski slopes, I remove my glove to do something with my 9550.

On the BB, a port for all functions. Micro USB for charging and attached USB data transfer. When connected to a PC with the drivers installed, the BB will be time load (from the USB port of the PC) as well as allow the transfer of data.

Technically, the BB model is unrelated to the size of the SD card, it supports. It is rather a function of the OS level that the BB is running according to the instructions this KB:

What this site is fake. If you happen to be in a business with BES (or purchase hosted BES) environment, you can indeed have the enhanced features that allow only to BES. Hmmm... release information can be found here:

But I'm not sure of your premises. You seem to be saying that you are locked in your level of update of carriers, as long as your BB is blocked. This is false. Unlocking is simply the function to allow your BB run on a network of different carriers... at the level of the BONE is irrelevant to that. You are free to use the carriers released OS for your specific model BB... There is just a tiny thing that you need to follow. But unlocking is not necessary to do so. There's nothing illegal or anything about unlocking. But it is useless unless and until you want to reverse your BB to another carrier.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones Desktop Software - 8310 - true Newbie Question - Contact synchronization

I did some research but I'm unable to find the contacts for my office management software.  I'm a BB user first. I had a palm a few years ago and I could change my details on my desk and then synchronize my palm device.  Is it possible to do with BB?

It's for personal use, so I have BES.  I downloaded the Desktop Manager, but I have no application to synchronize.  I had all my contacts from my phone last imported into the BB and want to change the information.  I was hoping I could do that to my office and the synchronization with the BB instead of doing everything on my BB keyboard.

    Any thoughts?

The BlackBerry Desktop Manager is not like the Palm software that you do not change the information directly in the Desktop Manager software. You will need to have an organizer like Microsoft Outlook when you change your contacts, then you can use the Desktop Manager to sync module to synchronize information from Outlook to the BlackBerry.

Thank you; Sorry if this has been asked before but I was unable to find it in the forums, documentation, etc.  Guess what I found for this kind of environment, you will use a BlackBerry Enterprise solution, but I can't assume.

    Thanks again.

The short answer is no - BB using a different methodology than the use of WM. BB Push, WM uses (for most) sweater. As a result, the long answer...

BB uses a server solution - it's called the BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) and it is hosted by your carrier. As an ENCORE, you create a BIS account, then create configurations for different emails, save your credentials for each e-mail account with necessary configuration items (as an ENCORE) (name of the server, the special ports, etc.). Then, BIS periodically checks your mail servers (about every 15 minutes) for any changes on the server that are required on the BB - only, so it generates traffic to your BB to expel these changes. If there is nothing that need to come to the HH, there is no traffic on the network of the carrier.

WM, on the other hand, devices use (for the most part - there are exceptions) a technology pull... the device itself asks your e-mail servers for changes that need to come to the HH. This generates more traffic on the network of the carrier that the action of the poll itself generates traffic, even if there is nothing to come to the HH.

Another distinction is the notion of synchronization - in the vernacular WM, it means that what makes your Inbox to the server mailbox and your lines of mailbox HH of the each other for everything (items old and new)... In the vernacular of BB, what is happening is the reconciliation of the new features and changes. But the old elements aren't coming for BB... only news of the moment of activation.

Another distinction is just what reconcile to a BB - new, remove, read/unread, saved, etc. Which varies according to the messaging service... see this KB for more information:

  • Smartphones blackBerry RE Newbie question: address book/Sim Card

I have a BB 8820 Smartphone & my carrier is AT & T. I previously had an LG view & upgraded yesterday to my BB (which I LOVE BTW!) I copied my contacts from my SIM card and managed to transfer all my existing addresses to the new BB. However, for some reason-all addresses see contact phone numbers in the field 'Work' rather than 'Mobile' or 'Home' "They were not show them that way on reading my previous phone screen - so my question is that I have to go in every & each entry address to re - enter the number in the 'Mobile' field & then disable it ' work ' field in order so that it appears as"Sue Mobile"or even just"Sue"when she calls instead of display"Work of Sue"there are entires that are numbers of work , but the majority are not & it gets confusing... make sense? Laughing out loud

Not to be confused... Yes you have to it manually.

And you need to transfer all the numbers from your SIM card to your BlackBerry address book, too.

Then, you can synchronize the BlackBerry to Outlook or Outlook Express and do the editing there. Much easier.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones how can I synchronize Blackberry 2 calendars with Outlook for example work & facebook calendars

I downloaded the new facebook application for Blackberry. He created a FACEBOOK CALENDAR on my blackberry.  So now, I have a calendar under my work email, facebook and my personal hotmail.

Facebook events have been added to the FACEBOOK calendar but when I sync my blackberry with Outlook only items under the work email address are syncronised with Outlook. I would like to synchronize the calendar entries facebook and my work with my Outlook calendar calendar entries.

I tried to search similar questions others maybe, but did not find this particular problem.

    I have a Blackberry "BOLD".

    Thank you

    Big thank you.

Yes I saw the part on the implementation of the facebook calendar. It doesn't give me an option to choose my default calendar, just went ahead and created his own little calendar of Facebook. Very confusing. I don't think he can do what I need it to do and will just have to keep an eye on the next update and see if it solves the problem. I read all the articles refered you too so thank you for that.

Thank you again for your answers you have been very helpful and I don't think I'll make the thing "synchronize each calendar separately. That is why too much messy as you say.

    Thanks again
