Blank gray screen on wake?

So I am using this Mac mini (late 2014, 2.6 GHz Core i5, 8 GB memory, 1 TB HDD, OS X El Capitan 10.11.6) for almost a year now and I'm having a serious problem with waking up from his sleep recently. If I let him sleep long enough, I get a gray screen on wake. No progress bar or the other and it can go up to a half hour without doing anything. I turned off the Hibernate using pmset just in case, and the problem is still happening. Happen 3 - 4 times so far.

Moreover, some of the keys on the gray screen gives an error sound system. I don't know if this means that it is a problem with OS X or not, but I'll bet it is, as I ran Apple Diagnostics and it showed that there are no are no hardware problem. I'm really confused now. Has anyone else experienced this?

  • Gray screen after starting mbp 2011

My 2011 Mac book pro can't go beyond the start screen. During an attempted in safe mode, it shows the gray boot screen, with the apple bar and the State, then switches to a completely blank grey screen. I tried to reset the memory nvram and smc, but it made no difference. Right now I'm looking at a gray screen and the fan operates at a high enough rate.

A month or so, there is no problem, I've upgraded to El Capitan. But last week, I started saw strange problems with the display screen, essentially content spiltting which should have been included to the left of two-inch screen would appear on the right side of the screen.

I guess I have a hardware problem, but I don't know if there is anything else I can try.

I also tried the recovery mode to try to restore from a time machine backup, but got stuck at a gray screen too.

    Any guidance would be appreciated.

Looks almost two questions. One would be the hard drive itself. If you can even not all recovery. The disc is maybe damaged. With regard to the problem of the screen which can be a graphics card problem. If you had access to the operating system, you could install GFX CardStatus. You have another way to start, as an installation disc. For example, you can run the disc to check/repair the disk utilities. You might be able to use single user to start and run a repair. Use the S command to start and when its scrolling does. Enter fsck - fy and click on enter. If you get the system modification to rerun the command until he says OK. Then click on and enter reboot enter.

  • OSX Update 10.11.3 iMacs causes gray screen of death Mid 2011

    Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forums of apple, so I don't know exactly if it was to go to the right place. This isn't any question that it's a PUBLIC service announcement.

Basically, a summary of my post is that OSX update 10.11.3 causes both 27 "& 21.5" mid 2011 iMacs is not start properly. After the update installs and the iMac restarts, the startup sequence seems fine, showing the Apple logo, then the progress bar. However, when you expect your login screen to appear, instead you are greeted with a dark gray screen and movable mouse... and he the system is still a little sensitive. If you press the keys on the keyboard you hear the sound of "bum" as if you had to press a key when you weren't supposed to, and if you press the power button (do not want) the system will switch to standby (and wakes up if you press it again). So this isn't really frozen, it's just nice... it.

Puzzled, I went to Google, hoping to find someone with a similar problem. I have not found much. I found some people with similar problems (gray screen is a bit more general), but I have found others with 27 "mid 2011 iMacs have this problem (links below :))

Cannot install the update of El Capitan 10.11.3 (Stuck in gray screen)

iMac mid 2011, gray screen of death!

gray screen with the pointer to the login screen

What I read, some iMacs have been recalled for the failures of graphics card, and that's what some people have responded to in the positions as a possible cause. (This is also what comes mainly from back when you search for "27" iMac screen gray) But this doesn't seem to be the issue here. The above posts are fairly recent and seem to coincide with the update 10.11.3 put in place, and they are the same symptoms that I have experience, but with no working solution.

Once I have restore my backup time machine last before updating 10.11.3 is installed, the system works perfectly. Unfortunately, if you have not a backup time machine to restore, it seems that reinstall OS x is your only solution (until you reinstall the update)

I'm not an expert of OSX, but I tried everything under the Sun to try to get the system to boot properly again, like resetting the PRAM & SMC , single-user mode, safe mode, none of this works. The system does not just start.

I don't know if this has affected everyone with mid 2011 iMacs, but I just thought I'd let people with iMacs 2011 who are having problems with this update that you are not alone, and I hope that someone at apple can be seen. If you have an iMac 2011 that has not been updated to 10.11.3 again, I will not do.

    Thank you

It is not material, it's software.

My keyboard came with my Imac aluminum had a problem that I thought was material, but order the update of the post 10.11.2 v works again.

Simply click near the center of the screen when it is grey and type your password.

  • gray screen with the pointer to the login screen

Sometimes when I boot my iMac 11.2 I have a gray screen when I only have my mouse pointer.

If I click where my user picture should be and then type my password I can log in, if I want my power button down for one second until the display sleeps and press a second time to wake up all displays as it should.

It started after the upgrade to yosemite to el capitan, I did an MSC and pram reset as a co-worker suggested and it helped for a little while, but according to apple, I need to update my firmware, so I checked the page on EFI and SMC firmware downloaded iMac (21.5 inch, mid-2010) iMac11 2 IM112.0057.03B (2015-002) and it wouldn't let me install it because it is the mavericks... I currently have Boot ROM Version: IM112.0057.B03.

do I expect that apple updated the page?

I have the same problem with getting the security patch to block a malicious terminal command can not install it because it is intended for an operating system more low version x.

From time to time on a power off boot, I see the same behavior with El Capitan (10.11.2) on an iMac of 17.1%.

Turning the power on and turn it on again it hardens immediately.

I tried to restart, I have it plugged in, but all I get is a blank white screen. I can not turn off either.

You mention that you "tried to restart"... have you tried a * must * reboot of the device?

Force the restart (does not affect the settings/data/music/apps/etc)

    1. press and hold the sleep/wake button

    2. press and hold the Home button

    3. hold both buttons until the screen turns off, then back on with the Apple logo.

  • El Capitan does not start after a freeze and a forced, bonded stop on the gray screen

    Hi all

I have a MacBook Pro 17 "late 2011, 2.4 Ghz, 16 GB RAM with OS X El Capitan installed, the latest version with all the updates." A year ago, I've had my Toshiba HDD replaced by Samsung SSD 250 GB SATA III 850 EVO and the Toshiba disk has been moved to CD using LMP disk Doubler Bay, at the same time, I had my RAM went from 8 GB to 16 GB of RAM, I have now. The OS X El Capitan is installed on the SSD. In this configuration, everything worked well, with absolutely no problem whatsoever. Sometimes, I ran disk utility to check both of my hard drives and no problem.

Unfortunately yesterday, strange things started going. First of all, I noticed some unusual glitches when you browse the internet with Safari. I'll try to describe the best I can because they lasted about 2 seconds, so I don't recall. In any case, all of a sudden, as if half right of my screen has shifted in the middle of the screen and it was wrong and image around was all damaged or distorted but legible. He'll be back to normal when I switched between applications or revealed the office displays the windows of all running applications.

It was similar to this (below) but much larger.

Then, I continued my work as if nothing had happened, when all of a sudden my mouse pointer disappeared and the system froze completely. It was just totally frozen, the time was not moving and the computer did not react somehow to the keys I pressed. Unable to do anything, I had to press and hold the power button to turn off the computer. After starting it again once I hear the ringtone, I see the gray Apple logo and the loading bar. When the loading bar reaches about 40%, a coloured horizontal line appears (see photo below), then it subsides quickly followed by a black screen, which is quickly followed by a blank grey screen with no Apple logo or the bar loading, just a gray screen Uni, where I'm stuck. The computer turns off by itself after about 15-30 minutes if I leave it like that on the gray black screen.

    The coloured horizontal line:

I can't start in safe mode or recovery mode.

I CAN only boot single user mode, Apple Hardware Test mode, the boot (by holding the ALT/OPTION key) Manager and verbose mode. Also, I can start on the Internet recovery mode but once the download is complete, it is stuck on the gray screen (gray screen with the Apple logo WITHOUT horizontal line-online quick clear-online stuck on the gray screen black screen)

After a lot of googling and reading, that's what I've tried so far:

    -' fsck - fy " in single-user mode

-running Apple Hardware Test and the Apple Hardware Test extended, both are zero problem

-Reset PRAM and NVRAM, MSC, several times

    -in single-user mode: "sudo purge"

-in a single user mode: 'exit' or 'reboot'

However, during my fight, I could successfully arrives at the login screen, log in and use my MacBook for some time, about a half hour before the same thing happens, the mouse disappears and the system to freeze completely. I remember that both times where I was able to get to the login screen, it was after I had been in single user mode and typed 'Quit' or 'reboot'.

The above colorful horizontal line also appears in the single-user mode when I type "exit" AND I am UNABLE to get to the login screen later (photo below). It just goes to the gray white screen. Those two times when I was able to connect to exit single-user mode, the horizontal line colored is NOT appear in single-user mode.

  • How to block all the videos and ads on all the site as how it is when it shows the gray screen when the flash player needs to be updated

Hi there please help me. I didn't have this problem until two days ago when the browser updated itself. I have the youtube video downloader add on and always use it. I'm on a data plan and it used to block videos and add ads which I like, but now is not because of the update, I came back to the old version, but it did not help and I downloaded the flash but block it does not work. It makes the slow loading of pages and uses a large amount of data that I tried many things like all the plugins of switching to add it on the menu to activate ever and it doesn't quite work. Before it used to show the gray screen, where it says "the flash player is out of date" on videos and commercials, but he does not do this because of the update so please help me to do it again.

I solved. On the firefox support page they will give you information about the HTML5 player and they say there that firefox uses it only 38 version before so I'm 36 version and it worked in blocking it as before.

So its all sort and if everyone wants to do the same thing go to https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/ and all previous versions will be there.

  • Slow startup after installing the SSD because gray screen

I just installed a Samsung Evo 500 GB SSD in my Macbook Pro 2010. I went to start and it starts very slowly due to a gray screen just sat there for about 30 seconds and then it shows the apple logo and it takes another 15 seconds to load. The gray screen did not appear before installing the SSD but the Apple logo did take longer to load with the HARD drive. I used SuperDuper to clone my my SSD HARD drive and installed the SSD and it starts normally. The only issue was the gray screen. I've heard that I need to go into system preferences and select Startup disk, then my boot drive, but there is no choice. Help, please.
