Each week, I (manually) install the recommended update of Windows updates. I'm under IE8 too. Also running Microsift Security Essentials.
Since the installation of updated 9 dec, (KB974318, 905866, 890830, 976416, 973917, 970430, 976325, 976884, 971737) 8, about 3 - 5 times a day, I click to open a folder, or click a link - I get a window saying "Windows Explorer has stopped working". He says while it collects information, and then restart Windows Explorer.
It happened this morning, as soon as I clicked on "Windows Update" icon of the button 'start '. It also occurs when the single click to open a folder on my desktop or inside another folder.I've also observed sometimes when you try to delete an important file (for example 300 MB) the deletion starts but seems to hang and ends not - even after 10 minutes or more.
Before installing the latest batch of updates I have not seen these problems within 9 months I've been running this machine.
Any ideas?I run McAfee anti virus and it is up-to-date. I also ran SpyBot and PC Tools 36 hours - clean.
Last night I ran as Microsoft on line scanners - no found major problems, some problems of minor registry, which I corrected.
Windows Explorer problem occurred twice since the scan.Someone knows a problem associated to the last batch of updates?
Thank you.
ColinI just spent a few hours of operation, McAfee, Spybot, PCTools Spyware Doctor Lavasoft Ad-Aware, removal tool Microsoft malicious software, Microsoft defender, PC Tools Registry mechanic. All work in a deep analysis, if appropriate and all give zero infections/problems.
You can run the scan utility from now until the cows is home and still not detect & remove all this hijackware, Colin. See...
Help: I got hacked. Now what should I do?
http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc700813.aspxNow see step #3 ("now run a thorough check for hijackware, including display asked newspapers...) in my previous answer.

When I double click on a folder to open it or try to open it in the start menu, an alert tells me that windows Explorer has to close, and then restart. I can't open the windows. I can open the fine when I'm in safe mode but not in normal startup. I tried to use a restore point, but my computer has not been implemented system restore points. Help!
It could be Aproblematique with the codecs trying to preview the files. Go to the Control Panel, reports on problems and Solutions, click on "View problem history" on the left pane, scroll down to Windows Explorer, under click twice on the problem that correspond to the date and time that you have encountered the problem. Note the name of the file next to the heading ' fault module name: ', google for the file to see what program it is. Uninstall, update or reinstall the program.

Explorer stops and restarts.
Windows Explorer stops and restarts when I right-click on a file or a folder, or when I try to delete a file or folder. A window will appear: "Windows Explorer has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to the problem... ». Then another window will appear: "Windows Explorer restarts. This does not happen with all files and folders, but many. I can use a third-party program (sheets) to delete files and folders, but not to explore. I have recently installed Windows Live Mail, Photo Gallery and I replaced Norton Security with McAfee, but I don't know if the problem started after or before those. Says Windows solutions I check for updates but I have automatic updates turned on and I have all the updates.
Hello
What antivirus/antispyware/security products do you have on the machine? Be one you have NEVER
on this machine, including those you have uninstalled (they leave leftovers behind which can cause
strange problems).Did you use the McAfee removal tool to ensure that it has been uninstalled completely? If this isn't the case, it uses now.

Try to compact and repair the database (see www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/). There is likely an inconsistency between what is really there and what think the database is where and who must reconcile the two. So beware of interference from antivirus software which can cause these issues (see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3).

Explorer Windows stops responding constantly and stops and restarts
I have windows 7 and Explorer is constantly stops responding and then looking for solutions then stops and restarts. I don't know when exactly it started to do this but is real annoying and reached a point almost unusable.
The event viewer will be your starting point. You will need to check your Event Viewer logs to see this error message is recorded exactly against incidents explore crashing. To find out what information is recorded in the event viewer and how to open it, you can read this article:
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/what-information-appears-in-event-logs-Event-Viewer
Once you find errors in the event viewer, you can double-click it to see details on the error. There will be only a failed Module associated with the error, and which could give us some more.
I saw this problem caused by Norton Antivirus. If you have running on your computer, you can disable it from the Norton Control Panel and check.
You can also put the computer to clean the start State and see if any of the non - Windows Services running on the computer is at the origin of the problem. If the problem does not occur in the boot, you can activate these non-windows services one by one and see which one is the culprit. Here's how to Windows 7 computer in a clean boot state:

What is the difference between the stop and restart?
What is the difference between the stop and restart? I feel that stopping closed all processes, completely erases RAM memory and clears the cache of the processor. I need to know if 1) this is a correct assumption and 2) which is better for daily maintenance of the system. Thank you in advance.
Hello Jeremy_1976,
Your support when the judgment is correct. Basically, it stops the process and completely turns off your computer. Reboot, however, temporarily your PC stops, then turn it on again. This happens usually when Windows updates are installed. After installation, the system is restarted (rebooted) so that any update has been successfully installed and works as it should. You can be a little mixed upward the reboot and the hibernation. Reboot is, as I have indicated previously, basically a reboot of your machine. Ultimately, your PC is on again after a reboot. However, hibernation, stores all data currently in memory in a special file, then the PC turns off. When you then turn on your PC, that is, coming out of hibernation, hibernation files is used to restore the status of the PC than when you initially put into hibernation. In other words all the programs you had open before will automatically open and be ready to use hibernation.
Hibernation or sleep for that matter is for short-term use. It is normal in Hibernate, or sleep if you want to be away from your PC for half an hour or so. If you leave more than I suggest you stop completely.
A point to remember about hibernation is that, if you use put into hibernation, you can't, once you get out after hibernation, install programs or updates. You have to stop and restart normally to do.
