Boot hard drive formatting

This can be something simple, I forgot, but my attempts to find these information have failed. I have a Vista computer. The hard drive is really too small and slow. I bought a new card to disk and controller takes SATA. I wanted to replace the old slow hard drive with this one. Install drive went well. I found that I could format the disk management. That worked out fine. I could write and read the new drive. However, it was not bootable. I have not been able to find how to make this record a boot disc for I can remove the old hard drive except in a strange way. I found a backup shareware program that copy one hard drive to another. In doing so, he copied all the features of the player if the new drive is bootable. Of course, to do this way also copied all the junk and trash that I had on the old disk.

So my question is: How can I format a new hard drive in a Vista system to make it bootable?

I think everydoby is a bit confusing as th what exactly you're trying to do.

Your last message indicates that you do this new bootable driver without having an operating system on it, or actually Start on this disc.

You want to define the characteristics of the disc to match the characteristics of the disk drive where your operating system is installed?

Unerstand that will never happen.  With attributes of the drive from which the operating system has loaded will always be different when it is displayed in the disk management console.  I guess you look at the values in nest () to the State.  If I'm here made me know.

I hope I said something that helps you here ~

  • Cannot detect the boot device after factory new HARD drive format

First of all, I have a HP Pavilion G6 I bought in December 2012. Yesterday, I decided to make a new record HARD to upgrade and start over. It is a hybrid SSD + HDD 1 TB of Seagate. It installed without a hitch, and I used my HP recovery CD to make a factory disk formatting.

He finishes, reboot, but instead to restart the HP Windows 8 installation screens, he goes to what looks like Windows 8 course mode with a box containing the date, time and he said something in the sense of 'Installing the driver HP diagnostics' with an OK. By clicking on that or didn't disappear, and there is a command line bar in the lower left corner of the screen.

The screen becomes a HP screen that begins to install the drivers. It ends and restarts to a black screen that says "no boot device not detected, please install OS."

I did a disk check and that's fine. I swapped my reader, and it loads fine. In fact, it's what I use now for this type.

What could be the problem here? The boot order has never changed in the BIOs. If it was the faulty connector I doubt he would charge the reader who was always in the computer. Load disc newly formatted in an external case indicates that Windows 8 is indeed on this subject, but on a 93GB partition even if the disc is 1 TB.

I'm in a stalemate here, and nobody seems to know what to do!

It was indeed the hybrid propulsion system. I exchanged for a normal HARD drive and resetting factory completed without a hitch. It was the mistake on my part! I never guessed it would have been the problem.

  • 6 to up to 1.6 TB available external hard drive formats

Just bought a 6 TB external HD. When the formatting only to 1.6 is available. Why?

    Connected via Firewire 800.

    OS X extended (journaled)

    GUID Partition map

    Computer: Mac mini (mid 2011)

    OS: El Capitan

Hard disk: disk red 6TB WD NAS hard drive - SATA 6 Gb/s 64 MB Cache, 5400 RPM class 3.5 inches

Hello Welcome to Apple Support communities, and Curtis

I guess that you'e using disk utility to do the formatting? Your problem seems curiou, this looks like a problem, I used to have with 32 - bit systems, but since your Mac Mini is a 64-bit computer, this should be irrelevant. Maybe El Capitan can simply not fomt a player as such.

Out of curiosity, have you tried to format the drive Seagate on another machine but also your box Seagate does support a USB 3.0? It is much faster than FireWire, it will be better fair access to juice a big drive.

    Kind regards

    Peter.

  • Bad Partition on external hard drive: format the bad Partition or format the entire disk?

I am confused how to proceed.

I have an external hard drive 3 TB with partitions (3). One of the parititons cannot be verified. I saved the partition and tried to repair disk. Repair disk failed and invited me to reformat the hard drive.

How can I reformat the partition without affecting other partitions (2) good bad?

Or do I have to save all the external drive (all 3 partitions) and then to reformat all the external drive?

    Thank you

  • External hard drive formatted with Linux OS

The external hard drive can be seen in devices and tested as working properly, but not seen in a different folder on my computer, can not be opened. In addition, the system says that all drivers are installed.

The drive is formatted with a Linux file system, probably ext3 or ext4.  Assuming that there are no files that you want to, you must delete all partitions, repartition the disk, and then the NTFS format.   These operations are done on disk management.  You can access by right-clicking on computer and select manage or control panel, administrative tools, computer management - Storage / Disk Management.

Be careful!  Make sure that you work with the right drive. Right click on the drive to see the options.

Note also, sometimes, these operations do not work through a USB adapter and it may be necessary to connect the SATA hard drive.

  • Recently installed Seagate Barracuda 500 GB hard drive, format and partitopmed recognized as Dtorage removable

Running Windows XP w/SP 3 - I couldn't make change by using computer management or change in the BIOS.

Would appreciate any help, I have the new Windows 7 and Office 2010 ready to instal.l

The hard drive seems to be connected to a SATA port that is set to AHCI mode.  This is the default mode "normal" disks hard SATA would normally use.  However, XP should have additional drivers installed in order to use this mode.  Therefore, it is listed as a 'Removable' hard drive in the icon 'remove hardware safely '.  It seems to be normal.  Windows will not allow you to 'remove' the Windows startup disk.

  • XPS 8300 - steps to install boot hard drive replacement

So my original Dell hard drive needs to be replaced because it has been send me errors and it is clearly a failure. If I get a new hard drive, I know how to get into the case and fasten the cables. Should I just turn on the computer with the system recovery disk I created previously? Do I need to 'Drivers and Utilties' disc comes with the computer? I've already invited Dell to the Windows 7 disc, but they never sent (4 years ago). I guess the system recovery disk should be sufficient. For any help or suggestion would be appreciated before I take the plunge.

    Hi Nively,

Using this recovery disk, you will install the image of hard drive Dell of origin on the new hard drive. So, you will have all the drivers and original applications. Of course, you then need to uninstall all software that you don't want, like for example the MacAfee and install all the updates of Windows.

Make sure the new drive has the same capacity or greater than your original drive.

  • Installing WXP - HARD drive format is not possible

    Hello

For some time my laptop really worked slowly on the net. Before that, it was working very well so I thought I have delete all and install the new windows xp (nl).

So I start and get her choose between

    NTFS (quick) format
    NTFS format
    Do not format

I chose the Middle, but it always stops on 14%?
I can format it quickly, but then my problem is not solved.

What can I do, what do you guys think is the problem?

    Thank you people!

    Hi Steven

It will be interesting to know what model of laptop you have and what operating system you want to install.

In my opinion, you must use the restore for the installation CD. On this way the disk HARD integer will be formatted correctly and in 20 minutes, the laptop will be ready to use. You can use CDs of recovery for the creation of two partitions if you want.

  • After the upgrade to El Capitan I can't write on the external hard drive to NTFS format more

I have an external hard drive formatted in NTFS, I used some Mavericks and could read and write on it without problem, after I installed El Capitan today I can't do more, not this external hard drive is read-only. The problem is that it is full of my data and I can't just format as journaled. What I can do and why it worked fine before?

You need to upgrade or replace the software you used to write on NTFS volumes and should put a copy of your data to a second drive in case one you have fails for any reason unrelated.

    Hello

Recovery disk cannot be used to install an operating system. You can perform repairs to the files that Windows uses to start itself, perform a restore operation using System Restore, and restore your computer in its entirety and the filesystem using backups that you have made previously.

You need a Windows Vista installation disc to install it.
