bootable mSata SSD on V5 573 G

Hello

I am owner of a V5 74508G1Takk 573G (with Geforce 720 m)

Given that it is a bit different from the other 573G I see here (with Geforce 750 m), I would like to ask for confirmaton I have 1 x mSata.

Also, I tried if I can do the mSata SSD bootable and it seems is not possible (see link). Can someone help me to clarrify that?

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Acer_Aspire_V5-573G

Thank you.

Yes you can.

After you have installed the mSata, clone your HARD drive for it. Remove the HARD drive, go to the Bios and make the mSata the first boot device, save the settings, close the Bios and start. After it is good boot, reinstall the HARD drive and format it for whatever your remove windows out of it.

This is what I want to do, put a 128 GB SSD drive mSATA in the slot, windows in the fire and use it as my OS & APPS, (c drive) drive, and then use the existing drive, the 1 TB of mechanical drive as the drive for storage (drive d).

    Thank you

    Yes it worked perfectly.

Mine has been running for more than a year.

    Install mSATA

    Disconnect the HARD drive temporarily

Set as Bootable mSATA in bios.

    Install windows on USB msata,

    Connect the HARD return drive.

You now have mSATA as drive C: and the old 1 GB HARD drive as d: or e: drive. But you can change to the d: drive if it goes as a e reader, as mine did.

IM opting out this thread now. It works and has been confirmed repeatedly. Buy the disc and crack on with it.

    Hey

I just want to tell you is possble to install an mSATA SSD in a HP Probook 6470b. While I don't see a present pci slot which can be adapted for an mSATA ssd, I don't want to face any questions that he might not be guilty or bios regonise the reader, etc.. My idea is to have the mSATA SDS which will serve as my boot device and have a 1 TB or 2 TB 2.5' HDD for data. Right now I use a samsung 840 EVO SSD 2.5' as my boot drive.

    Kind regards

Here's what it says in the Manual:

Flash module 24 GB of cache mSATA Intel (Intel Smart Response Technology (SRT), not available on computer models equipped with WWAN or SSD)

So yes, you can insert a disc of the WSSD in the pci-e slot you see. However, it is designed only to be used as cache acceleration and not as a main boot drive. This means that it will be bootable, but only as long as a regular SATA HDD or SSD is not present. It is the oldest mSATA material used with the Intel Core processors 3rd generation on business models and processors of gen 4th on consumption patterns. Later models can use the slot of the WSSD to boot, but not yours without significant configuration involving a bootloader installed on the SATA drive.

  • Hard drive not detected after adding 2nd mSATA SSD for HP Envy 14 1002tx

    Hello

I'm having a problem when adding an extra mSATA SSD for my HP Envy 1002tx model.

The laptop comes with a 500 GB HARD drive and I see that there is a 2.5 "mSATA SSD slot under the HARD drive, so I bought the same type of SSD and installed it but when I turn on the laptop, it does not introduce yourself. I don't know why?

If anyone knows if there is any software I have to install in order for the laptop to recognize the SSD?

    OR

I'm really sorry, I could not find this before, but the slot under the hard drive is not compatible with the mSATA disks. It's for WWAN modules! Your laptop is not like 4 I thought, but Envy 14 equipped with the first generation of Intel processors. Envy 14-Sandy Bridge 2000 series could be BIOS modded to make the miniPCI-e interface works with the mSATA disks but Envy 14-1000 series is not possible to change.

Edit: 2.5 "drive 256GB solid state drive is listed as compatible.

  • Volume shadow copy error after moving to MSATA SSD on R7 - 572

A while back I cloned the value default 1 TB SATA drive on an MSATA SSD plugged into the slot unit MSATA.

At the time I had been unable to conceive the MSATA as boot drive, while the original (also bootable drive) was in the system such that it does not appear in the BIOS from startup list.

    http://community.Acer.com/T5/S-and-R-series-laptops/cloned-SSD-in-Boot-Manager-but-not-boot-priority...

As I did not need the 1 TB, I just removed and have used the system very well with just the MSATA SSD.

Today, I tried to make an Image of Windows backup system and ran a (below) Volume shadow copy error

Volume shadow copy service operation failed. (0x807800A1)

I check all the main remedy online by ensuring that all VOlume shadow copy served are running, but without success. I feel that the fact that I'm on the SSD MSATA which was not visible in the list of the BIOS boot maybe being tied to the backup crashing.

Anyone running the R7-572 on the MSATA port that is able to make a system image backup?

    Thanks for your comments

It took me awhile, but I finally understood what was preventing the creation of the image of the system.

Looking at the event viewer, he had a lot of mistakes, the first mistake we a CAPI2 with event 513, then it was a VSS error with event ID 8228 stating an invalid character in an XML file.

Search through dozens of threads and try a number of bugs without success, I finally found one who mentioned their question came from bad characters in the names of partition after cloning with EaseUs Todo backup.

It's the tool that I used to clone my drive to a SSD, I decide to check it out.

The thread mentioned using GPT fdisk utility found on sourceforge, so I downloaded the tool.

You just run the executable in administrator mode. Find how to use it was a little hard, but basically the commands below does the job

0:-enabled disk 0, which is my drive.

I - to view the information on each partition

It will ask you the number. This allows you to see the names. Some of my partitions had some very strange names did not, we had a quote.

I checked what names when used on another laptop and decided to appoint mine as follows (I think you can use any name)

first 600 MB partion: database partition

Second partition of 300 MB: EFI system partition

Thrid 128 MB partion: Microsoft Reserved partition

    Fourth 205GB partition: partition database

Fifth 17 GB partition: partition recovery

To change the name of the partition, use the command

c ask for the number of the partition, then the name

    Then save with

w - written revisions and outputs

I rebooted, tried the system image backup and no problem this time.

I lost a full day on this topic, so I hope it can help someone else in the future

    Hi all

I want to take my first ever thinkpad X 220 for the last two months and I love it. She is beautiful and powerful machine.

The machine's high-end x 220 series. The only thing missing is an SSD.

    1. a card Ericsson GSM/GPS system. This means, so I can't install mSATA?

    2. I would like to replace my HDD with SSD. What other other than that of you lenovos SSD tested successfully and help? Lenovo SSD's are * beep * expensive.

    3. what 54 mm expresscardis are useful for me? I would like to increase storage. What brand/model do you recommend?

I have also noticed the screen light bleeding. This isn't annoys me a lot. But I've seen much complaining about this. Is there a solution to this problem?

    Thanking you in advance.

    Kind regards

    Hello

The X 220 has two locations of MiniPCIe , accepting a "full-height" card which is ~ 51 mm long.  The other accepts a "half-height" card, which is about 28 mm long.  In X 220, the low-profile connector contains the Wi - Fi adapter (wireless 802.11n), while the slot full height contains the WWAN (3 G modem) adapter.

The slot full height on the X 220 is designed to install a MiniPCIe or mSATA card.  I don't know if the low-profile slot will recognize an mSATA card.  If you want to use an mSATA SSD in your X 220, you need to remove the map of Ericsson GSM/GPS.  You can then use something like a 3G hotspot for connectivity.

The 220 has a X drive Bay 2.5 "hard, but this Bay only accepts a high 7 mm, not the more common drive 9.5 mm high readers.  There are, however, many hard disk (up to 500 GB, 7200 RPM) and solid state Drive (up to 600 GB) that go into the drive Bay.  I haven't used a 7mm high SSD before, but have seen some for sale on the web site of the American retailer NewEgg.

I used a Wintec 48 GB ExpressCard SSD in my W510 for storage and it has worked well, although it hot after being in the system for a while.  64, 96 and 128 GB models are now available as well.  I guess these work identically in the 220 X, but I don't think they are bootable.  Here are the 34mm card rack, then you want to get a small plastic wedge that fills in the rest 20mm if that open is a problem.  You could also install an ExpressCard/54 location with ports USB 3.0 or eSATA for connecting external storage.

  • starting in an Inspiron 13z 5323 msata ssd

I just want to confirm that the BIOS does not allow direct start-up msata ssd card since the legacy startup options only show the hard drive.

What happens if the hard drive is removed?

I'll just answer my own question in the interest of those who suffer from this poorly designed BIOS.

As you know, access to the hard drive of the Inspiron 13z 5323 amounts to dismantling to go of the laptop; In addition, he do anything good unless you plan to replace it with an SSD. The reason is the following:

The BIOS searches only SATA and not the mSATA boot devices.

It follows that mSATA start must pass by "SATA (specifically, the system partition of the hard disk)."

Here are the steps that work for me:

1 convert the mSATA disc table GPT partition by using the administration tools of Windows 8-> computer-> Storage-> management management records. Avoid any partition present/created. You can install classic shell first to relieve pain to navigate in a Windows world without a start button.

    2. [optional] I want to keep the hard drive as backup boot drive; Therefore, I proceed to clean and set up installing Windows 8 for the final deployment.

    3. disable the pagefile, hibernation and system restore. Defragmentation and shrink the partition from the OS (C :). I had mine up to about 20 G with 2103 office installed. Make sure that at least 1 G of free space.

4 clone the partition from the OS disk mSATA. Use the disk mSATA integer. This should result in a single partition. I used Partition Manager in Proteus HBCD in offline mode, but there is probably a lot of other alternatives. You will need to enable legacy boot in the BIOS to boot from a USB key. If you want to avoid dodgy torrent and make it bootable USB flash drive (I used rufus), you can try the free version of EaseUS Partition Master.

    5. start Windows 8 on the hard drive. If the mSATA disc does not appear as D:, open a prompt with administrator privileges. Type:

    DiskPart

    Select disk 1

    Select partition 1

    GPT attributes = 0 x 0000000000000000

    6. If you see not D:, reboot, otherwise continue. Download and install Visual BCD 0.93. DO NOT use EsayBCD 2.2 because he may / will spoil the BCD store and make the computer unbootable. In case you FA place like I did at the beginning, this is the fix:

Turn on the old boot in the BIOS

Boot WIndows 7/Windows 8 install from a USB flash hard drive/disk (these drives must be partitioned MBR)

    Repair-troubleshooting >--> advanced-> command prompt

    Type:

    DiskPart

Select flight 1 (my memory fades... you want the ESP 500 MB (corresponding to the system partition) volume)

    assign letter = b:

    output

    CD /d b:\efi\microsoft\boot

    Bootrec /fixboot

    del BCD

    BCDboot c:\windows /s b:/f all the

    7. perform Visual BCD. Select Windows 8 in the Chargers section. Change the two entries that has C: d:

    8 restart and rejoice.

  • Portege R930 - upgrade the mSATA SSD succssfull

Just briefly, I wanted to report an SSD upgrade.

When I got my Portege R930 (PT331E, i7) two years ago, I changed the HD to a PRO 840 Samsung SSD 512 GB (big improvement). Now, this SSD is too small (photos!) and I wanted to increase the capacity up to 1 TB.

But instead of a new SATA, I decided to go for an mSATA + adapter SATA I felt an mSATA unit would be more "evolutionary" - next update of the laptop for me would be a Portege Z, who use mSATA.

So I bought a Samsung 850 EVO 1 TB with a Delock adapter/converter mSATA SSD, made a clone of the Apricorn cable and the software switched the SSD and everything works fine (actually a little faster )! At first I tried to use the clone with software from Samsungs migration but this didn t work, maybe I didn t the right version.

-Now I have a lager SSD that will live longer than my R930. Please note that I'm not an expert with computers - just a happy user Toshiba! Thanks for a good forum with my good ideas!

    Hello

soon I'll be getting a laptop Toshiba Tecra Z40 - B - 12 p, reference PT45GE-06S03F7J, it comes with a 250GB SSD mSATA. I want to know if it is possible to install a second hard disk 2.5 "additional or I have to choose between having a regular vs 2.5 mSATA SSD" HD.

Well, some models are equipped with an mSATA SSD instead of a hard drive.
But there is only one place to connect the hard drive SSD SSD/HDD or mSATA.

Is possible to use the mSata SSD instead of module 3 G pcie slot?

Thank you very much for your help!

I think that something like this is not possible. Card mother ports are not a kind of flexible ports.
In the past, that Toshiba gave the second HARD drive, upgrade instead of the optical drive using special adapter.
