Bought Win 7 family 3 PC reformatted UG Pk HD for clean installs

I followed the instructions in the box - formatted all my three computers with
Hard disks to do a clean XP install so I can reinstall my software...

Box indicates very clearly to clean install but MS does not recognize the product key and
It's for an upgrade NOT a clean install

Now, I have three old computers XP without the new OS?

John

You should have booted from the dvd system and let Windows see you had XP and then let Windows format disks.

Reinstall XP and start over.

I am currently using Win 7 Home Premium 32-bit on my laptop.
I intend to switch to Win 7 64-bit and bought the full product and I am ready to install it. For your info, my HARD drive is: hard drive Western Digital WD32 00BEKT-00F3T SCSI.

Yes, you will need a 64-bit driver, there need not be a native driver for Wndows 7 64-bit, you can also use a Windows Vista 64-bit driver if one is available.

    Call the manufacturer Compaq...
    1. ask a set of recovery disks. The overall cost is minimal. It is worth the money several times over.

    2. at the same time, ask to speak to a technician. Ask technology to teach you how to access the recovery of your computer partition and also how to use the restore system ypur partition.

Note: you will lose all files and programs that you have installed. Save them if you can. If this isn't the case, you will need to start over from scratch, after you restore the system.

  • Win 8: family safety Error Message

Have 3 computers of children that have been purchased with windows 8 is installed.

Eager to safety for the installation on each family.  Having the option of family safety is problem to work on two of them.

When you view the user account, it says family security is enabled; However, it is not.  When you try to view the available parameters for the family safety in these 2 accounts, I get an error message every time... "Cannot change the security for the family."

Tried to delete accounts, add, install a new one, etc.  Nothing works, still get the same results.

Spoke with MS tech support three times, no one can help me.  Someone had the same problem or advice on how to correct the problem?

    Hi Cyndi,

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

From the description of the problem you are facing problems with getting the option of parental control. To help you to propose measures to solve the problem, I would appreciate if you could answer the following questions:

    1. are you logged as an administrator of the computer?

2 did you do changes on the computer before the show?

You can check the settings of UAC (User Account Control) If this is allowed, then try to disable the same and see if the problem still occurs. Follow these steps for the same thing:

    a. press the Windows key and from the splash screen, type UAC and on the right.

    b. click on settings and select change user account control settings and check here.

For more information, see these articles:

  • My 2 TB TC is full and will not back up. Yet, I have only 1 TB of data on my laptop. Note that I've reformatted the laptop since the last backup with a clean installation of El Capitan.

My 2 TB Time Capsule is full and will not save. Yet, I have only 1 TB of data on my laptop. Note that I've reformatted the laptop since the last backup with a clean installation of El Capitan.

I bought a 2 TB external hard and have used Time Machine to back up. But I also use my time Capsule, which I save wireless.

Any suggestions on getting my TC back up?

One suggestion would be to copy all existing backups that are now on the Time Capsule 2 TB hard disk. Then, clear the TC and start over again with new backups.

A more expensive option... assuming you want to keep all old backups on the TC... would be to add a new TC and start backups goes in this direction.

Another option... If you do not need to keep all old backups now on the TC... would be to erase the TC and start over again with new backups. The benefit of doing this would be that no new material will be necessary, but the downside would be that you lose your old backup history.

Go to the HP support website and search for the latest drivers Windows XP for your specific model number, then what are on the CD when you first bought the laptop. http://welcome.HP.com/country/us/en/support.html

How can you tell if the CD contains the latest drivers. A simple method is to compare the date of your purchase with the date listed on the site of HP drivers. All dated driver after you bought the laptop is more than likely newer than what's on the CD.

If there is recent Windows XP update/more drivers, then download the latest drivers to a folder on your hard drive (create a folder and name itdrivers HP). Then install each beginning driver by the card mother/chipset, SATA, LAN, Audio, drivers, and so on.

If it appears that HP has their website isn't is more recent than what you have on the CD, and then use the CD.

I just bought the Windows 7 Home Premium. Am I eligible for an upgrade to Windows 8 when it is available?

Yes.  More likely you qualify for level to Windows 8 If you had Windows 7 (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, are all eligible to upgrade.)  Just OS level determines what you will be able to keep for an upgrade).

If you're not confused: is eligible for the upgrade does not have any kind of discount because you just bought Windows 7, unless this purchase of Windows 7 came with a new computer?
