Broken chapter numbering - 1 book file only

Windows 7 64-bit. FrameMaker 11, build 11.0.1.382

I have a book with 5 chapters. In my files, the Format of title 1 (chapter name) Para has the following automatic numbering style:

C:Chapter < n + > < = 0 > < = 0 > < = 0 >:

Autodial is checked.

In the book, numbering... has the value

Chapter:  ' Continue the numbering from the previous chapter book.

Paragraph: "Continue the numbering of the previous paragraph in the book."

All my files are correctly numbering except the file modified in the book (Chapter 5). Title 1 (chapter name) isn't picking up the correct number. It is always wrong to-1.

And, I have copied this file to one of the other files in the book that works properly. In fact, all the other files in the book don't work properly and they all have the same numbering (in the book) except for the first file (set to 1 or on restart)

They have all the same characters/para formats, templates, etc..

Updated numbering... nothing does. It is as if she is 'missing' from the topic in Chapter 4 and therefore not jump to Chapter 5. But, I can't find anything missing.

Of course, I could use some help with this one. Thank you!

There must be something wrong with the chapter 4... but I don't see it. All the files in the notebook of are defined in the same way, and they are all (except the 5 - the last chapter). So, there must be something wrong in the body/content/setup of Chapter 4, right?

Installation numbering of Chapter 5 of the book is: (should be list Chapter 5).

The numbering of the book set the chapter number Variable.

The title of your chapter and other formats do not use the building block <$chapnum>. Change so that the building blocks and you're all set.

  • How can I get rid of chapter numbers in a book?

Chapter numbering options (under layout / numbering and Section Options) do not include "no numbering. When I import a file for a chapter by using the function of the Place to load in a Word doc, '1.' text appears on the line of eheader th.

I tried to go to the Type / text Variables / defines the location and the removal of the text chapter number variable. However, when I Place a Word doc in my book, the chapter number usually appears at the beginning of the chapter, and then I can't make it go away.

    Help gratefully received.

You have to work pretty hard to use the assigned chapter number by ID. The usual method is to insert a chapter number variable in a block of text. Place a Word document would not invoke it. It seems to me that the chapter number is included in the Word file, which makes some sense from the point of view of the author and should be selectable as any other text in the document.

    Sjoerd Hey,.

    Try this:

    var myBook = app.activeBook;
    myBook.updateChapterAndParagraphNumbers();

    Hope that helps.

  • Chapter numbers automatic for chapters within a single document

I just got a question from a reader of my VQS. He wants to know how to "capture" the chapter number and chapter title to my chapters for footers in the document.

I know how to make a model that is used for every single document that each chapter. These documents are collected in a book. Chapter numbers are set to "Automatic chapter numbering."

But chapter numbers can only increase if documents are separate files assembled in a book. (At least, I think it's true.)

But what happens if circulate you a paper with all the chapters within this single file? How to set chapter numbers to change automatically for footers? I suspect that you would need a variable text style paragraph or character as a footer. But how you get chapter numbers advance automatically?

Would you use the bullets and numbering in the paragraph style?

I know how to do these. I wonder what people would do for their workflow.

You're right about the automatic chapter numbers - it's just one per doc.

I think that I use a separate running header (character style) variable and try to pick up the number in the title of the chapter, if it is there or add a number of non-printing 'tag' on the first page of each chapter, if it is not.

  • Excluding the chapters of automatic chapter numbering

    Hi guys, first time poster!

    I need help.

I've set up each of my chapters with automatic chapter headings (Type > text Variables > insert Variable > chapter number)

    So that part works fine.

The problem I have is (as you can see in my screenshot), for my books, Chapter 1 begins in the 7th entry on the book panel. So, instead, Chapter 1 to 7, the chapter number. I'm doing this right? I can't find a solution. Must file as a table of contents and pages copyright etc is not in the compilation of the book? I want to export an entire PDF (what I know how to do) rather than having to connect a PDF file. I checked the "Document numbering Options" and under chapter numbering I don't see really an option to exclude the first entries of 4 or 5 and do the 7th in the list "Chapter 1".

    Any ideas?

    Thank you very much!

The lower part of this Panel is for the chapters of the Document

You can see you have configured automatic chapter numbers

For Chapter 1, you should have

You must choose whether to start chapter numbering in chapter: 1

Then in your previous documents before

You must configure them so that they start numbering in Chapter 1 of too - but use a different numbering style as A, B, C, etc..

Or anything that works for you.

Bottom line is you need to select first chapter in the book and start the numbering of Chapter 1.

  • AutoNumber a specific paragraph in the direction of all the book files

I hope I'm missing something simple again, but here goes: (using FM 9.237)

I have a residue book several documents, each is part of a simple contour. Here is my configuration of numbering in its current state.

    Process control 1.0: Lorem Ipsum < n + >. < n = 0 >: \t

    Control objective 1.1: Lorem Ipsum < n >. < n + >: \t

    Control 1.1.a: Lorem Ipsum. < n >. < n >. < a + >. \t

    Control 1.1.b: Lorem Ipsum. < n >. < n >. < a + >. \t

    Process control 2.0: Lorem Ipsum < n + >. < n = 0 >: \t

    Control objective 2.1: Lorem Ipsum < n >. < n + >: \t

    Control 2.1.a: Lorem Ipsum. < n >. < n >. < a + >. \t

    Control 2.1.b: Lorem Ipsum. < n >. < n >. < a + >. \t

    And so on...

I need the process paragraph AutoNumber control overall of all the files in my book. So, in my Doc 1, can I have 1-4 control processes, and then in Doc 2 I want that the process control to start at 5. I tried to use < $chapnum >, but no matter what I do, the checkpoint process starts again at 1. I can't understand how to say FM I want that he begin the numbering in the previous file. I used the automatic numbering successfully for years, but for some reason that I am confused on this.

Any help would be appreciated more that I can identify.

    Jeff

    Jeff,

You put in place in your post, the building numbers blocks refer to the numbering of the paragraphs. So in your book file, select all the files in chapter after chapter, right click and select numbering. Then in the paragraph tab, select continue from previous.

If you want to use the building of <$chapnum>block, then replace the appropriate by <$chapnum>in automatic numbering for the paragraph format. The same that in the first paragraph, but click on the chapter tab and select continue on precedent. In the book file, select the first chapter, right click and select numbering. Then in the chapter tab, select start at 1.

The important is to define the numbering in the book file, not within each chapter file. This is the book file that controls things.

  • . MAB imported address book file is empty in Thunderbird, why?

I'm using Linux Mint 17. I recently updated from a previous version. I tried to import my old address book, but when I open it there is no information there. I can open it in my text editor, and they're all here! What is the problem? It seems that all online tips are for Windows. I'm using Linux! The only address book file is .mab, so how do I do this?

OK, I just closed and reopened Thunderbird. Voila, addresses were there. DUH! Problem solved, sorry!

I use numbers to make files, but other people could not open, why?

    Hi Annie,.

Only numbers can open a document in numbers. Excel cannot.

In addition, there are several versions of numbers that work on a Mac. Older versions will be not open newer versions.

What version of numbers do you run?

What applications are the other people running?

If other people are running Excel, you can export your document numbers to Excel (Menu > file > export to... > Excel). The export will not be perfect, but they will be able to open it and read it.

More information, will lead to a solution.

    Kind regards

  • How to read a file only?

Hello world... I am a new Fuze 2 GB owner and I have a problem that I couldn't solve by reading the user manual or searching for this forum.  I use the "rocket" (mainly) to listen to stories and readings in MP3 format.  I placed about a dozen files on my rocket through Windows Explorer drag / move directly into the 'Audiobooks' folder of the rocket.

My problem: when a story ends, the following starts immediately.  I don't want the next file to play; I want quiet (given that I listen to it while asleep).

Is it possible to force the "rocket" to play a file only and then be silent while it drift off in his own 'Sleep' mode (that took me 30 minutes)?

Furthermore, I have disabled "Ch. Mode".  (I've even left "Shuffle" and "Repeat" in 'Music' just in case it might have something to do with it.)

    Thank you very much!

Because no one taken here have to answer with another "sorry, don't know," I kept trying to figure this out myself.  I discovered a workaround solution and write here for the benefit of any third party who may want to read a file only.  That's what I did:

I transferred my files (stories and readings in MP3 format, which I originally put in the audiobooks folder) in music-> songs.  Note that this DIY does not work via the audio books folder!

Then, I selected a file to be read.  When he started, I activated the button "Push and Hold".

This operation has copied the individual file to Playlist-> list go.

When I wanted to play this file (and this single file) all in falling asleep, I sailed to music-songs-> list-> Playlist > go.  I chose this file and it played.  At the end of the file, there was blessed silence.

Don't forget to put your energy saving or sleep to shut down the "rocket" after x number of minutes.

  • InDesign, address book files, place objects, package the project

I want to use a book file to combine several smaller files (let's call them "chapters").

Each of my chapters has a number of objects (cmd - D).

I said who placed objects remain outside the main .indd file and allow re-binder if one of these files is updated or replaced.

I use the package tool menu to combine all the fonts placed objects and .indd (and PDF) file in one folder.

I want to know how to use the objects placed in the chapters that are contained in a book file, and how to package everything when I'm done.

Where each of the files belong (in which folder); and how they are organized when I pack them?

How to make a copy of all of the compressed file, to start working on a new iteration [review] the entire book?

I watched the tutorials and read what I can find.

I can't find answers to how working together package, the book and the place .

    Thank you.

    • So you place graphics and text files in an InDesign doc (we'll call it aCHAPTERc) and use the features of InDesign to arrange a nice layout.
    • Repeat this process for each chapter.
    • Collect all of the chapters in a book for the paging file, generate a Table of contents, may be a clue.

Now what? If you want to print, you can export the book to PDF and send it out for professional printing. Or you can package the book (use the menu of the control panel in the upper right of the book panel) and collect everything you need for printing through InDesign in a single project file, as well as folders nested for fonts and graphics. The zip file and send it out for professional printing.

These days, providing a high-resolution PDF is more common. So, why use the package? Let's say you're not particularly organized. (I am and always start with a project folder and subfolders and put everything that relates to this project in these folders.) But let's say you're not. You can still use the package afterwards, just to collect and copy all of the assets of the project in a new folder (assets include book and chapter files, fonts, graphics and .idml file and a .pdf print quality). Zip, archive and you are ready, when someone says: "Hey, can I get a copy of this article moved you 10 years ago? What is happening to me more that you would think!

  • CS5 - book "File Info"

I create a book for a friend who is long in several chapters. It will be considered as a PDF file. I WISH I could add FileInfo for the book, but I can't find out how to apply it to the whole book. I have to apply to each single chapter? Is it even - possible - to add FileInfo to a book?

    David,

This is not necessarily the first item in the book, it is designed as the Style Source chapter that provides metadata for the book. In the book panel, the small Style Source icon in the left column can be clicked to select any chapter in the book, but usually, I would choose the first chapter. This is also the chapter whose content is used to synchronize styles, shades, etc.

  • How to choose chapter numbers in table of contents headers?

Each new chapter title is in a table of one row and two columns. Column 1 contains only a large number (numbered style called ChapNum) against a shaded background and column 2 (shaded) contains the title of the chapter (Heading1 - which is NOT numbered; only the style of column 1 contains numbering.)

The only exceptions are the Preface (a title 1) chapter and the table of contents itself (which uses TOCTitle so it will not appear in the table of contents). For both, the shaded column 1 uses a style called ChapNoNum.

Layout a sideheads. first page of each numbered chapter looks like this:

    |-----|--------------------------|
    |     |                          |
    | 1   | Heading1.
    |-----|--------------------------|
    |     | text text text text text |
    |     | text text text text text |
    |     | text text text text text |

    |     | text text text text text |
    ----------------------------------

I want the table of contents to pick up numbers chapter as follows:

    |-----|--------------------------|
    |     |                          |

    |     | TABLE OF CONTENTS |
    |-----|--------------------------|
    |     | Preface... 1.
    |     | 1 getting started... 3.
    |     | 2. more things... 5.
    |     | 3 troubleshooting... 9.

    ----------------------------------

But the table of contents contains only the Heading1s, which are not numbered. How to include the ChapNum in front of the title 1 in the table of contents? (I tried to use graphical boxes on master pages, instead of the rows in the table on the page body, but have not found the answer it.)

    Any help is welcome.

Table of contents specified only captures paragraph formats. Chapter numbers are not specified in the table of contents, so they are not captured. To capture the number and paragraphs of title, you must specify both formats in implementing TOC. For race number in the title, you must assign a paragraph format in the entrance of the number in the table of contents; This will cause the title to the number on the same line.
