Browse sequences at merged WebHelp

Hi all

I'm working on a merged WebHelp project and I noticed that in the output of the navigation for each child project sequence is treated individually. Otherwise said, there is a full stop at the end of the sequence of navigation for each child project and I have to select the first topic in the next draft of the child within the table of contents for this sequence to browse. Is there a way to integrate them so that sequences of travel are managed consecutively?

Either incidentally, did someone else noticed a delay in loading the table of contents in Firefox when one of the results of the project of the child is missing? This help file contains information for the 3 software separate, but related, users can have between 1 and 3 products (and, as a result, between 1 and 3 of the child of the help files) on their machine. If anyone has any ideas on how to launch Firefox by displaying the table of contents in a more timely fashion, I'd like to hear them!

Thank you
Melinda

I noticed that even if the evolution of the refresh rate solve the problem of load, the table of contents are not autosynchronising immediately. It starts to sync after the user has clicked on certain topics, but it is not really satisfactory. I found an alternative method.

Delete the redirect.

Paste the following above the tag, text by changing the path to the same thing you had in the redirection.

Change the body as tag below. Change the time-out if necessary, it is set in milliseconds.

This gives the same redirection but OCD will sync OK. It also works well OK in Internet Explorer.

• Browse sequences

I use RoboHTML V7.03.0001

According to me, Miss me the boat on what Browse sequences are and how to configure them.

First, as I understand it, browse sequences are < < and > > arrows that appear so that you can quickly navigate through a series of theme themes at once. If this is not correct, please re - inquire

Secondly, I strive to sequences browse setup in a small help file to see if they will be beneficial for my users. I have my help file (layout main is WebHelp) with a table of contents. I go to tools, sequence editor to browse.

When I click on create automatically using TOC, I don't get a topic 'book' with its subtopics below. These subjects are in my table of contents, but are not the first subjects, they are in the middle. When I click on create automatically, I enter 8 in creating a separate series for each book to the field level. I have 6 levels of subjects in my table of contents. After reading (and re-reading of the online help), I think that's what this field refers to. The resulting sequence to browse it auto-crée is actually a level 5 with two levels of 6 under him. In aid of this small sample, this is the only level 5 and 6 subjects. I have attached a screenshot of the table of contents and the screen sequence editor to go through as a result of the clarification.

TOCSample.jpg

BrowseSequenceEditorSample.jpg

I'm not sure what I did wrong or what I do not understand.

I tried to build a sequence of browse by hand but was not clear if should be a sequence to browse GIANT through the help file. If so, when I'm ready to so far on the actual file, which will be much bigger, I would have automatically generate to save time.

Help, clarification, or hit upside the head would be appreciated

Kind regards

Gilley

Hi again

Try certainly what Leon suggested. However, take note that if you follow this path, you will have to manually reorder the sequence through to match the structure of the table of contents if that's how you want your sequence to go to work.

For what it's worth, it is not a file that is listed. It is a book in the table of contents. And I find it quite strange that it causes a problem. Here is another alternative to try.

Create a table of contents totally new and different. Automatic creation if you have to. Then, try to create the sequence to navigate using 0 as the level and see how it goes. My thought here is that you have an odd corruption in the existing structure of the table of contents. Exactly what is not clear, but certainly seems be preventing sequences go under construction.

All that it takes to solve it, take a moment to relate to us what it was so that it helps someone else that could meet your same situation.

• Problem with merged webhelp (Robohelp 10) linking to the child projects

Hello

I recently upgraded to Robohelp 9 to 10.

I used as indicated on the site Web of Peter Grange merged Webhelp. To establish a link between the projects of the child the hyperlink would be entered as:

.. /Folder/filename.htm

Since the upgrade to 10 new hyperlinks cannot be entered in this format that the OK button when inserting a hyperlink does not let you save.

Existing links still work using the format above.

Is this a change in 10 or I do something wrong?

Thank you

A clean complete re install of RH10 did fix this problem of not being able to return the railways on the projects of the child.

• conditions or merged webhelp?

What is the preferred mode of attack for modular help: terms of use or create merged webhelp?

The product has a base module that everyone has access to and 2-3 optional modules. This is a very small project, Core has only 35 subjects (so far, but probably not too grow up), and the other modules only require probably about 15 topics of each. Oh, and there is a separate stand-alone application to be included in the main webhelp but also released as a chm in the case, it makes a difference.

Is it more effective to simply create and apply conditions to the level of the topic and in the table of contents, or go through the process of creating merged webhelp? For the size of this conditions to the project is probably the way forward, but what about for major projects? Are there other aspects?

For a project of this size, it's not implemented merged help. Go with CBT.

UPDATE

I got the word of Support technique Adobe level 2 (after providing the part of my project):

CORRECTION: RoboHelp 6 is not set to work with related links to external files in the > TABLE of CONTENTS< in="" merged="" webhelp.="" a="" hard-coded="" link="" with="" a="" drive="" name="" (i.e.,="" r:/something)="" has="" to="" be="" used.="" (a="" relative="" link="" is="" usually="" expressed="" with="" a="" "dot"="" "slash,"="" or="" "dot="" dot"="" "slash"="" to="" express="" a="" path,="" like="" this="" ../directory/subdirectory/filename.htm="" that="" will="" work="" on="" any="" server="" or="" pc="" with="" the="" same="" directory="">

RH6, external links (for merged WebHelp and other links) must be "hard-coded" with a physical path * including mapped drive letter *, for example:

file:///G:/mergedGenerated/Department/filehname.htm

Not only that, but if there is an error in one of the projects (including one of my subprojects has) audit of Robohelp 6 errors stop the compilation and the 'mistakes' (closes).

This means that a file that will compile and generate in RoboHelp 5 cannot do HR 6 If errors occur.

There seems to be no way to link to my URL in the table of contents of the file that contains the error, except for physically type the link.

We are looking at other tools that will allow which connects with the merged files.

If anyone else has problems of compilation of a file in RH6 who worked in RH5, external, related links could be the problem.

Just to let you know.

• Merging WebHelp & amp; Context sensitivity

Hello. I am extracting a topic I posted in the wrong place. Here's the Exchange that I had with Peter Grainge. In the next post, I'll post my question extra (s):

Peter Grainge wrote:
For WebHelp, we use the method startpage'htm #path/targettopic.htm and it works well. See my site for more information. Visit www.grainge.org for a range of RoboHelp and creation of related topics

hermi14 wrote:
Thank you. Now that I understand the difference between HTML Help and Webhelp, I see that this sensitivity to context covers only topic merged with * HTML Help * projects (that use the CHM file). What happened is that I searched on this issue in several forums and did not notice that the heading covers "RoboHelp for HTML Help" (the output type) not 'RoboHelp for HTML"(the type of user interface)!

I see now that my project must use the Webhelp format and I'm glad to hear that the context for Webhelp projects merged sensitivity has been developed successfully and documented already as compatible with RH7!

Due to a combination of VPN access problems, the fact that I only have only another writer working on my project and my deep suspicion of applications like RoboSource Control (which was confirmed by a few trials), I decided to use projects merged instead of the control of source code as a collaboration tool.

I'm sure you will hear more from me. You Rock (rap, or otherwise align).

Check out what you plan to do with your developers. This affects their calls for help.

OK, answering my own question. (I hope that this will make up for some of the issues stupid newbie I asked so far and received a response very patiently by the gurus - for the most part, Peter G.)

I just test the sensitivity of context to a merged webhelp project created in RH7 and use IE 7 and it works! Yahoo!!

* I used the Javascript of a webpage to test call.
* I only tested the RHShowHelp() function using the HH_HELP_CONTEXT parameter
* I put the default theme (which is the first topic in the first merged project - one that is redirected to the parent project).
* I bring a specific topic with no nav pane based on the ID of the card.

As mentioned, I followed the instructions of Greg Minter of 2006 published on the website of PG. However, here are a few details/changes to these steps (please, forgive me if everyone already knew such things):

You have not manually copy and paste the ID of the map ID card (* .h) files of the projects in the map ID of the parent-child project file. Just generate the projects of parent and child as usual and the references are automated.

[Concommitantly] should not manually set the ID of the map (* .h) file in the output folder (mergedprojects\projectnnn), as he describes it.

Woo-Hoo.

• Call CSH in: merging webhelp

It is more a rephrase that a new post: I have created a project of merging webhelp (using Peter Grainge excellent guidelines) and have two questions:

(1) can someone point me to the place in HR help that explains how to call webhelp using the ID of the map of an application?

(2) my merged webhelp project has a parent and several children. Each of these has always had its own file .h, right? How that affects the search for ID card? (If I rebuild a project of the child, its .h file will be updated... do I need to copy that up to, merge together, or what?)

Thank you

-Greg

Success!

After many starts & stops & head scratching, I finally understood how a merged webhelp project that can:

(A) uses the ID card for research rather than having to specify a path
(B) be gradually updated (for example, add you a plug-in and want to just distribute the new doc, but always supporting CSH)

Peter Grainge has had enough to publish small article I wrote on his website:

• Benefits of merged WebHelp?

I'm working on a major project that ulitimately will be documentation of the whole society for all departments in WebHelp. So far, I have a Ministry completed in about 900 pages. There are an other departments 10 or so to go.

Wouldn't be better to use:

A. a huge file of WebHelp (project)
B. Webhelp has merged with a project for each Department?

The WebHelp could reach up to 10,000 pages. I think merged WebHelp would be easier to manage.

All opinions welcome!

Thank you.

10 000 links is fine. You must make your coffee so what better than every time you open the project some time. When it comes to generating assistance you can pinch to your sandwiches.

Yes the project will work but not you.

I split a project precisely because it is around this size and everything was too long.

• Merged WebHelp TOC topic even shows 5 times!

It's me again :-(

I managed to set up my 'container' for merged WebHelp and began to add merged files. Everything was working fine until today. (And BTW, I use Robohelp X 5 update for the latest patches).

My OCD in the merged file DID look like this:

Welcome (page)
Departments (folder)
-By Department Overivew (page)
-Accounting (folder)
-Other Department (folder
-Other min. (folder)
************ BUT ******

NOW, it looks like this

Welcome (page)
Departments (folder)
-By Department Overivew (page)
-Accounting (folder)
-Other Department (folder
-Other min. (folder)
Welcome (page)
Departments (folder)
-By Department Overivew (page)
-Accounting (folder)
-Other Department (folder
-Other min. (folder)
---------------------------------------------Welcome (page)
-Departments (folder)
-By Department Overivew (page)
-Accounting (folder)
-Other Department (folder
-Other min. (folder)

Does anyone know why Robohelp did this? There is only one instance of the file icon merged into the table of contents for each Department. And the only thing I did was to get out of the big picture and put it in a CHM file, accessed from a help button in the toolbar to WebHelp. (I use WebHelp as a document library management system, and not as a help file.)

Thank you very much in advance for your understanding and support!

Diana

Boy is my face red!

The solution: take a look inside all files to 'merge' duplicates that are nested inside of each other.

I don't know how it happened (my PC is wobbly lately), but removes all folders nested my PC Robohelp directories (jn my root in C :) and regenerating fixed all problems.)

Hi all

I want my sequences through displays of my merged .chm files. At the moment the chm file master they are merged shows its own. But only some of the merged files help display their. How would I get them all to appear? I checked the checkbox to enable them is checked in the defined window and this window is used in the master and secondary projects.

I fixed that. I had to remove and then add in all the TOC references merged for the subprojects in .chm, whereby the PC-DMIS copy these .chms void in my project directory.

• Sequence using merge or other alternative

Hello

I have the following table, wherein a SUBS_ID is unique but INDEX_ID is not and REQUEST_ID is initially null for all records.

The table can be large (~ 1 M lines) and even though there might be several SUBS_ID with INDEX_ID even - most of the records have 1 to 1 relationship.

CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE SUBS_HIERARCHY_TEMP
(
SUBS_ID     NUMBER(10)                        NOT NULL,
INDEX_ID   NUMBER(10)                         NOT NULL,
REQUEST_ID  NUMBER(10)
)
ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS;

I have the code which assigns a unique number (REQUEST_ID) to each separate INDEX_ID using a sequence (this code can run in parallel and I REQUEST_ID must be unique in the world):

...
cursor Request_id_cur is
select distinct INDEX_ID
from SUBS_HIERARCHY_TEMP;
...
begin
...
-- fill SUBS_HIERARCHY_TEMP with records, doesn't matter how, REQUEST_ID remains NULL
-- populate REQUEST_ID with a sequence

for SUB in Request_id_cur LOOP
v_UniqeIndex := SEQ_REQUEST_ID.nextval;

Update SUBS_HIERARCHY_TEMP
set REQUEST_ID = v_UniqeIndex
where INDEX_ID = SUB.INDEX_ID;
END LOOP;
...
end;

It works - but obviously not very efficient. If all the records are 1-1 going to run updates of 1 M, but I can't use a simple update in case somewhere SUBS_ID INDEX_ID even therefore need to have the same REQUEST_ID.

I tried to do it in one go using a merge statement, but apparently the sequences are not allowed in the USING clause of the merger:

merge into SUBS_HIERARCHY_TEMP tab
using (select INDEX_ID, SEQ_REQUEST_ID.nextval as REQUEST_ID
from (select distinct INDEX_ID
from SUBS_HIERARCHY_TEMP)
)tmp
on (tab.INDEX_ID=tmp.INDEX_ID)
when matched then update
set REQUEST_ID=tmp.REQUEST_ID;

ORA-02287: sequence number not allowed here

Any ideas how to make in a single statement and avoid the loop?
