Cable network keeps disconnecting after a period of time

I just bought a new Lenovo Z510 and I have serious problems with the network Ethernet cable. When I turn on the laptop and plug in the cable, it works for about 5 minutes. Then it suddenly disconnects (with software) while physically he is still connected. When I restart the computer, it works again for 5 minutes that follow. It's really annoying.

1. I have not installed new software to date.
2. it is not the problem of the cable (works fine on other laptops).
3. Windows 8.1 diagnosis only says that the cable is diaconnected.
4. I tried to reinstall the driver so I have the latest version of the web page from lenovo.
5. There is not BIOS problem because it works fine first - then disconnects.

I have really no idea of what it can cause. Does anyone have a similar experience? I suspect that maybe some Powermanagement kills service or something? But have no idea how to solve. Thanks for any advice.

Hi thanks for the reply. I tried everything above. Without success.

Then I googled many repairs possible and, finally, the problem ceased when I
uninstalled McAfee security. I have no idea what caused the problem but now
It works perfectly.

If the solution of the problem of Ethernet connection: uninstall McAfee!

I have no idea why Lenovo should deliver so many third-party with software
their products. And even if it causes problems. I have no idea if its only
me, but I really suggest it first uninstall all the ballast that comes with
the laptop. Its only 30 same day trial. Not good in it. Money for
Lenovo ads. And a lot of nerves to its customers!

    What is going on:

    If I am reading an article or by typing in a comment like this box, the screen turns off after a certain period of time.

    -mouse mobile, typing, scrolling window or motion/movement of the window (like firefox) on the desktop does not work for normal brightness screen.

    -resizing of the window will be brighten screen (also by clicking on the Start button or start another application or similar activities).

    What I've done and additional info:

    -My hdtv eco settings and and autobrightness are all off. I don't have the problem with other components related to this view. This is not the problem of the screen

    -my desktop pc power settings are not set to reduce brightness at any time. I even disabled the «turn off the display after...» "option. Anyway, same problem. I have the computer put to sleep after 20 minutes.

    -a ran the troubleshooting of windows power - I know how to click and read. There is nothing outside of the obvious and already known.

    As-i crossed all the parameters of the CCC (the suite software amd vid card). the only color/quality setting I use is deinterlacing with drop-down auto-detection. pixel format is set to RGB 4:4:4 limited. I have active treatment of ITC (will try not disabled, no idea what it affects). I use manual detection of displays... no setting under "desktop management", "my digital flat screens", and "video" seems to do anythign with dimming screen.

    I read through the first 5 pages of the "Sun Office" search results here... no related response.

    just thought to google the registry entries related to power... but always options this issue. I'll look into registry changes after.

    Please update us on the issue. Office is different from the laptop, and because the screen is dimming as it does in a laptop, it is related to the power settings or the driver itself. These are the only two things that are responsible for the same in a laptop as well.

  • 5th generation AE extension network keeps disconnecting

    My WiFi network consists of two extremes of the Airport (the two 5th generation).  One is connected by Ethernet to a modem cable in my house.  The 2nd is located in my studio, a separate building; the two AEs are about 75 feet apart with a couple of walls between them.  The 2nd unit in the studio is implemented to expand my network.   I have several macs on the network, all running El Capitan; also, a couple of iPad and an iPhone, several printers, etc.

    For a long time, everything worked fine; but for the last month or two, the AE in the studio which extends the network disconnects and to blink yellow.  I found that the only way to fix is to pull the plug, then go to the House and pull the plug on the main AE and the modem cable.  Then I plug the cable modem back, then the main AE and finally the 2nd AE extending into the studio.   This restores all for a day or two, and then the studio AE stops again.

    The main AE and internet connection in the home is always very good. Sometimes, indeed, my wi - fi devices on in the workshop will always have an internet connection even when the AE there disconnects, because they are still in the range of the main EI in the House.  The problem is, I have an ethernet switch connected to the AE in the studio with several hanging devices, and I lost all these connections when the problem occurs.

    Can anyone help diagnose this?  The only thing I've tried is to restore the default settings on the 2nd AE in the studio and then re-setting up to expand my network again.  It seems to work for awhile, but the same problem will occur later.  I'd appreciate any help anyone could offer.

    My experience is about the same. I was actually very happy with the Setup program for a long time... It was necessary the occasional blow to wake up but who said a week. In terms of reliability wireless on household appliances, all right. But as time passed, it slowly grew worse and I couldn't solve the problem. I have now stopped doing this way and went to a different brand Repeater that is much more reliable.

    IMHO... you need something better than the wireless extension. Seriously for your configuration to run ethernet. Separate the building, you will need to check your local regulations for the grounding of issues. The authorities may insist on the use of the fibers, but if you can bury the ethernet or run a catenary so I always this way.

    If your studio is run from home without a counter power, you can also use EOP (homeplug) adapters that can be very successful. Once the power is measured so you have no common circuit so it won't work... It is always an experience if they will work.

    So, how to solve the problem... If you are not able to use ethernet, fiber, or EOP or not in a situation where they can work, so let me recommend you run a dedicated wireless link. You need a pair of appropriate external units, e.g. ubiquiti 5 GHz WAP where we're connected in your home via ethernet to the outside wall or in a window where you can see the studio and the other is also the same... facing windows is ok, you can use face to face... If not, they must be installed outside under the eaves.

    For now... Let me make some suggestions for your pair of AE. This might work better in the short term, but not in the long term.

    1. use 7.6.1 firmware. It of always better for me than to use 7.6.4 and was reproducible...

    4. keep track of signal and the speed of the link. Utility v6, you can hover your mouse over the link where it is said well. (Don't even bother if the link says not as good).

    Notice the link is located on 5 GHz... as suggested I forced to one, the signal level is low, - 79dBm is much lower than I like, but the connection speed is far superior to any link 2.4 GHz and was much more stable.

    Now, let me suggest as the best way to keep track of what happens is to install a utility airport v5 somewhere on your network... even in a windows or machine dual boot a parallels... There are tricks to install even in El Capo. The reason is that you can get a graphical view of the binding of the two ends.

    This is the screenshot of the link... and by using the MAC address of the two units I can follow what is happening.

    But in the end, it became too unreliable... I think that the AE (mix with equivalent TC in my case) just wore out. Wireless signal in routers seem to be deteriorating over time...

    My new Setup is complete one until I run ethernet. I got the hand on a cheap AC router that makes universal Repeater... and it works very well.

    Much more poor in a perspective of network... but better reliability point of view.

  • Network keeps disconnecting Fix, Intermittent.

    I noticed a lot of people having problems with intermittent disconnection problems. I had this problem for a very long time since getting the office. I was in my mind ends when I finally called support and they wanted to charge me for a PC that was only 5 months old my issuue was a software problem in which it was not.

    I have to note for this fix to work your "network card" must be PCIe to be newer models. To confirm this, go into Device Manager and look for your network adapter and right click. While in there, go to the "Power management" tab and uncheck the box that says "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". After doing so, go to 'control panel' and select power options. Regardless of which box is checked, go to the far right and click on "Change Plan settings". This takes you to another screen called "Change Plan settings". You will notice two options under "put the computer to Sleep.  Select "change power avancΘs." This opens the 'Power Options' tab, once here, select the PCI Express card and expand. Select the link "State Power Management", and then expand. Set the "Link State Power Management" to off. You won't have to restart, make sure that you apply the setting and select ok. I did it just the other day and it resolved my intermittent disconnection. I have not had a problem since. Under the default Dell system, the powers of the PC down the PCIe link causing the disconnection. When you run the network troubleshooter utility, it brings the PCIe link off mode 'sleep' and reconnects to the internet. I guess that this same rule can be followed for the setting USB under power as Options, but which does not apply to me, so I never tried.

    By the way, thanks for nothing Dell.     Since a few years I posted this fix with link state power management settings. I just wanted to check the reason for which it can become a problem by simply changing when the desktop or laptop computer goes to sleep or Hibernates.This is not a defect of the operating system. If you want to check this condition without the tweak mentioned above for LSPM parameters. Simply go to the Panel and select hardware and sound then power options. Click on change settings for already marked feeding management and set the display forever and value sleep ever. If you do not drop your connection use the tweak above to customize settings for network adapters in the Device Manager. I did this tweak many laptops and desktop computers because I found the problem with LSPM and it works. This tweak can be applied to any manufacturer that uses the windows-based operating system. Then I type the password again, it just said 'Welcome' and vanishes in the background with the battery icon and wifi in the lower left corner.     Hello and thanks for the display on the HP support forums.  You'll need to do is start in safe mode and do a system restore to before this problem started.  An update has made a change in the configuration that is not sitting well or you have installed or updated something which that disliked the system.

    Hey there, I have a problem that I can't solve any how I try. Sometimes, when I play, I have sound, but all the all of a sudden it stops working, but I see no error. When I try to open a sound track through Windows Media Player, it says "year error occurred while trying to open this file through Media Player", or simillar.

    When I go on youtube, there is no sound, and there is no sound in games I play. And when I connect to Teamspeak to talk to my friends, I get an error saying that it is not able to connect to the audio device.

    I tried to update the sound card on the latest driver from Toshiba Web site through, but that did not resolve the error. The only solution I have now is to restart the computer to wait for the next time it will happen. Which I find really annoying.

    Is there than anything the people of this forum can help me with?
