CALCTASKDIMS / CALCPARALLEL / Multi - CPU calculation / Performance

Hello

I'm working on essbase scince long now and I am faced with a new question for multi cpu calculation.

I use to work on 4 / 8 core CPU, but now we are building a new planning application on the server cores cpu 32 with 32 GB of Ram.

I would like to optimize the calculation of the aggregations.

Here's my hierarchy:
Members of Type Dim store
There are 72 Dense 158
6 5 dense scenarios
Dense period 4 3
Agg 389 113 rare market
Distributor Agg 360 359 rare
Agg 315 230 rare category
Product Agg 2241 rare 2228
Scenario1 sparse 2
Sparse version 8 7
12 12 scattered exercise
65 63 rare currency

My essbase Setup is like this:
CALCPARALLEL 24

CALCCACHEHIGH 199000000
CALCCACHEDEFAULT 10000000
CALCCACHELOW 5000000

CALCLOCKBLOCKHIGH 1000000
CALCLOCKBLOCKDEFAULT 100000
CALCLOCKBLOCKLOW 2500

Size blocks (B) 8640
Block density (%) 0.12%

I have a calculation of aggregation taking [46.2] seconds and use only 4% CPU

On the top of the script, I add:
GAME CALCTASKDIMS 2; -> result [49.178] seconds and use the 8% CPU
SET CALCTASKDIMS 3; -> result [59.613] seconds and use the 12% of CPU
SET CALCTASKDIMS 4; -> result [53.156] seconds and use the 12% of CPU
SET CALCTASKDIMS 5; -> result [64.159] seconds and use the 12% of CPU

I must admit that I do not understand why the performance decrease when I use multi cpu...

Any suggestion is welcome,

Thank you

David L

Look - the performance problem for this cube will be almost totally related to IO of existing blocks. Other proposed script improvements, your only hope is to accelerate IO.

I assume that your key cache is large enough to hold the entire index. And your data cache is at least as big (does not actually to be which is great).

Try to create a ram disk and moving the cube to see if she becomes faster.

Finally - are you really getting the material you are? What is a virtual machine? What else is running on this subject?

Finally, rember it takes a woman 9 months to give birth to a new baby. 9 women to share the experience will not reduce it to 1 month. It's basically why nominal increase of calc and decreases intensity does not help.

Can you define information messages on and see how many calculations are carried out? It does not resemble a large number of blocks are presented (see sparse calculations in information msg) makes me more in more suspicious about the index cache.

  • First Pro CS5 never uses more than 15% of CPU, so perform much more slowly than first 6.5!

    Hello.

    I make videos of marriage for a while. My material included map DV500DVD and first 6.5 CPU Core 2 Duo E8400, 2 GB of RAM, Windows XP SP1 (DV500 does not work with SP2 or SP3).

    The above system is quite old and absolutely not usable for HD videos. So, I decided to build another machine. The configuration is the following:

    OS: Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.

    M/b: Asus LGA 1155, H67 chipset.

    CPU: Intel Core i7 - 2600K

    RAM: 4 GB DDR3

    HARD drive: 2 x 64 GB SSD, 2 TB SATA (RAID) 4 x (all drives connected to separate the controller PCI-E chipset fault intel isn't a problem here)

    I recently downloaded and installed the first Pro CS5 trial version, to see how he adapts to my needs. And I'm very disappointed. I started the first, chosen preset widescreen DV, inserted two static images on the timeline and made a mix alpha between them. Then put movie export. Not only it took too long to make, but it only used a nucleus, and the CPU usage is only 15%. Just out of curiosity, I installed first 6.5 on the same system, and he did this task about 10 times faster!

    That is, limitation of the trial version, or just first Pro CS5 cannot be used with this modern processor?

    Thanks in advance,

    Alex

    I can understand your experience... After I installed Windows 7 and CS5 Production Premium, adding another 8 Gig of Ram for my PC, dying on the fact that my Nvidia Quadro FX 4600 is not able to use the reading mercury and literally hours of waiting for spending returns, on a hunch, and after reading about someone else who did the same thing.  Finally, I took my old PP CS3 and installed on alongside first CS5. To my surprise, with 64-bit OS, CS3 running and makes exactly the same content about 4 times faster, does not idiosyncratic seizures slow when moving clips in the timeline, no white on the error screen "not responding" messages, etc.etc. I have no problem with After Effects or Photoshop CS5, they work fine, but first CS5 is close not functional as it gets. A: 30 minutes with some effects of magic bullet, even native capture HDV format takes about 10 minutes with PPCS3... and about 45 minutes with CS5. CS3 also reads smoother and barely stutters, so that I have to sit and to return with CS5 because of choking in order to continue working. One post suggested that I don't have enough gas in the machine, dual core AMD Opterons 3.2 GHZ, disks, 16 Gig ram working 7200 and 10 000 rpm... but cannot see how CS5 can maybe make CS3 on the same stage. What I'm missing here? I'm not whining just baffled.

  • Is there a difference first and after the Performance of the effects in terms of CPU intel or AMD?

    Is there a difference first and after the Performance of the effects in terms of CPU intel or AMD?  Forget about the speed issue, assume that the processors are of comparable speed and also assume that the system is built beyond recommended configuration.  When it comes to reliablility and performance of each processor, work and managing data with CS5 is there a difference?  I am looking to build a computer with several CPU i7 so if outside as well (unless you can convince me that don't have a single processor is better than building with multiple) thanks for reading and I look forward to any help you can give me!  Bow.

    The test of disk i/o is 59; 58; 00, the MPEG2-DVD test is 2; 36; 04 and H.264 test - BR is 52 00

    What does it mean in real life? Hard to say how to look your timelines of real life and how leading practice comparisons, but I think that the H.264 timeline is much more demanding that 95% of users would meet. If you have CS5, you can download the ZIP file and take a look at all the effects and transitions used with alterations of Bezier curves in many and with all the different formats used in a single edit.

    There is one thing that you should keep in mind. The MPEG2-DVD H.264 - BR are directed to display the CPU/GPU performance and memory, but in real life, exporting to BRD involves also large (20 + GB) exports the disk, one of the things not measured in these two tests. This means that the high score of Juggernaugt in the H.264 test is only part of the story. We must also study the performance of disk i/o when exporting large files.

    My disappointing score on the H.264 test is caused by the lack of carrots, the memory and the cache limited on the 920. OTOH, price/performance wise I know that I prefer my setup the Juggenaugt.

    I'm looking for a little clarification on an issue with parrell treatment in LabView. If I have a dual processor with two 4 core CPU computer will be able to access all 8 cores in the LabView environment. I presume he can use carrots that can see the operating system?

    Norbert B has written:

    It is the work of the operating system that applications may use all of the hearts, if necessary. So for the application itself, it should make no difference if the system (hardware) is MultiCPU, multicore, or even simply Hyperthreaded...

    Norbert

    It's true, but I would like to add my 5 cents here.

    Lets say, if you have a simple loop like

    While (true) {}

    do something

    }

    then OS will get a chance to run in multiple threads. So you get max 12.5% CPU load to 8 core PC or 50% max on dual core PC.

    I have dual core PC now and allows to check:

    Thus, as we can see - 50% CPU load reached (a single core charge more, but its a different story).

    Well, if we are going to use two while loops, then we will get 100% load:

    Of course, if you need to load all 8 cores, you should have 8 parallel loops.

    Compare BD above with the following:

    We have two functions of minmax table and they independently, but we have only 50%.

    Well, you can get also the 100% CPU utulization inside while loop. In th example below, you have two sub - VI, who called in the same loop:

    Here we have 100%. Important, these screws must be reenterant!

    See what happened if they reeenterant not:

    Now a little about the Vision. Most of the SubVIs Vision behind are DLL calls. Some features of Vision already optimized for the multicore performance. For example, the convolution:

    On the comic above, we have a simple loop with a Subvi, but two cores are used (convolute itself already optimized for the core multi car).

    Remember, not all functions of Vision optimized yet. For example, low-pass still single-threaded (compare this BD BD above):

    Of course, we can use multi hearts - just perform a parallel execution (you must split the image for both parties, and then to unite and so on):

    Remember, SubVIs must be reeentrant, and all calls DLL must be thred safe (not in the UI thread). Also good idea to stop debugging in such experiences to eliminate the additional CPU load.

    Another point on 8 cores. As far as I know, LabVIEW (and application on LabVIEW) will support only 4 cores within a default delivery system (at least before LabVIEW 2009). If you have need for all 8 cores, then you must add a few lines in LabVIEW.ini. See the thread next where you can find more details:

    Interpolate 1 d slow on computer 8 hearts

    Hope that everything written above was correct.

    Thanks for reading and best regards.

  • Multi-threading

    I am looking to buy a new Mac Pro.  There are options that are inspired mainly by what applications you clocked.  He suggests that apps that don't take advantage of the multi-threading will perform better on processors with clock speeds higher while those who will benefit more from hearts.  Lightroom will perform better with more cores or a higher clock speed?

    Lightroom takes advantage of multiple threads so that saturates the CPU sometimes, but a lot of time, there are some other bottleneck on the system like i/o to disk or video memory so that thread or cpu optimization gains are dumb.

    Never, I followed this environment in the past, so I don't know if they had a CPU contention before this upgrade or not, I'm going strictly by the comments of users.

    No, the VMware tools backdated wouldn't interfere.  In fact, you don't have even the VMware Tools installed to a virtual machine running normally.  Will pass you right next to the advanced features and performance gains unrelated to the CPU.  The CPU is the processor there is no driver for this specific to VMware.  Values of loans are quite specific - the virtual machine has something to see CPU wise and his waiting for access to the CPU.

    The physical number of nuclei in the home and what is it (Intel 5500 or 7300 etc.)?  How many virtual machines?  How many virtual processors assigned to hospitality?   How many VMS are multi-CPU?  What is most vCPU per VM on the host?

  • BIOS & CPU Support for a1250n

I know the specifications of the motherboard on the status of site of HP that the Commission will support the 4800, but it does not indicate if a BIOS update is required to do. My current BIOS version is 3.34, while the latest published version is 3.47. The BIOS update file is only compatible with XP, and I'm running Windows 7 without dual boot.

    Will be the Athlon 64 X 2 4800 + work in this system with the 3.34 BIOS version?

    I just finished installing the new CPU without performing the BIOS update. Windows 7 recognized the new processor, the two hearts are ongoing processes, and the system appears stable. I guess this settles the question of whether the most recent BIOS is really necessary to upgrade the processor in the Pavilion a1250n (answer appers to 'no').

  • Question about performance statistics

    William-

    I was looking on the 'doc' House to see if there was reference to the period of time represented in the performance data given in the output of the script.

    Can you tell me what we actually with the host / cluster (CPU, memory) performance statistics?

    Also - I was wondering why "ESX/ESXi Hardware Configuration" includes CPU utilization and memory - that's just how the API works?  It just seems odd to include these data with summary material...

    Forgive the noob questions (and anything that might follow) I (FINALLY) movement in a project that will allow me to work much more consistent with the API, and this script makes so much to make my life easier.  We put the spotlight on performance and the ability of prediction, so I'll try to learn what can offer the API (overlooking DOCS 9840 & 10665 as time lost...)

    Thank you!

  • Guest VM is taxation host CPU (CPU in the VM is fine)

    Hello everyone.  Thank you for taking the time to read this.

    The ESX host: 3.0.2 Build 61618

    Guest VM: Windows 2000 Server

    Virtual Center: 2.5.0 build 119598

    I have a Windows 2000 Server pretty basic VM configured with 2 processor and 512 MB RAM.  With Windows, the CPU is rarely more than 25%.  Obviously, Windows the VM runs great.  However, in VCenter, this particular virtual machine chews CPU for the ESX host.  It uses a 4850 MHz minimum.  This puts all the alarms and refuses the CPU usage to other virtual machines on the host.

    I cannot vmotion, virtual machine to another host due to specialized storage and networking needs.

    Everyone is in a similar situation and if so, how did you solve it?

    Thank you very much for your time.

    Hello

    Most of the time it is due to a conversion of VMware to a single CPU server to multi CPU VM configuration without changing the Windows MP HAL.

    Best way to check is to 1 CPU before touching.

  • Using a radio button with a calculation

    Hello

    I have a question of calculation for the group.  I'm trying to calculate creatinine clearance.  Sounds easy, but I'm stuck at the end.

    creatinine clearance is: ((140-age) * weight (kg)) / (72 * Scr)

    Women are multiplied by 0.85 to get the final result of creatinine clearance

    I have a box for the age, weight and scr and the user has entered the number.

    Here where I'm stuck at is the end... I have a radio button for women so that the result is multiplied by 0.85.  I thought that something like this might work... but nothing helps.

    var crcl2
    CrCl2 = (140 - this.getField('age').value) * (this.getField('weight').value) / (72 * this.getField('cr').value);

    var crcl3
    function validate (carbbox)
    {
    If (carbbox.checked == 1)
    CrCl3 == crcl2 * 0.85;
    on the other
    CrCl3 is crcl2;
    }

    Im kinda new to this obviously... any help would be really appreciated.

    Thanks, chris

    Unless you repeat the calculation in function in several places with different values or you want a funciton of type library which could be adeed to other forms, use of the service may not be necessary.

    Event.value = "; assume not performed calculation
    perform the calculation if the divisor is not equal to zero
    If (this.getField('cr').value! = 0) {}

  • Which processors run faster?

    Referring to a following linked picture, there are 2 CPU

    i5 2467 M, HT is enabled, so there are 4 logical cores for calculations.

    CPU Mark for i5 is 2313, is this value determined according to 4 logical cores or logical 1 kernel?

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance for your suggestions

    http://I1093.Photobucket.com/albums/i438/junk000/CPU_zpsc43105d3.jpg

    Maybe there ia a misspelling in your OP but please note that the i5-530 is a desktop CPU and i5-2467M is a mobile processor, you can't really compare these processors as the mobile processors are designed to be energy efficient and the dollar can pack the power of a desktop in a mobile processor processor!

    The i3-530 is a processor of 'old generation' more aged, while the i5-2467 is a version more recent "2nd generation" processor.  On a Windows XP computer, I would say that you are probably better off with the i3-530.  The main advantages of the newest of the i5-2467M are that that it is a mobile processor it uses much, much less energy and that it supports AVX instructions.  AVX instructions is relatively new and is compatible with recent operating systems (Windows 7, Windows 8 and Server 2008/2012).  AVX instructions are not yet widely used, but these instruction sets will become more frequent and they will dramatically increase the performance of the CPU intensive applications, give it a few more years and you will see several business applications which use AVX instructions, tests suggest performance gains in the order of 30% with AVX instructions.

    These can be useful:

    PS. HT is not all it's cracked up to the to be, and most of the existing computers work better with HT turned off.  Unless you have specific critical applications that have proved to work better with her, I would say that it be disabled in the BIOS.

    Thank you very much

    Hello

    Hello from the Canada

    After the P2V conversion, you MUST remove all agents of the material of the Virtual Machine that includes the consolidation of NIC from HP, it will not work properly

    on your VM and it can cause a lot of weird problems

    As you can see on this Ko under the section of "Tasks to perform after that conversion is complete" http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1004588

    Tasks to perform after that conversion is complete

    After the conversion is completed:

    1. Check the settings of virtual hardware:

      • Adjust the number of virtual network adapters. If you need customize the host name or IP address, leave all network cards present but disconnected.
      • Remove all devices useless such as USB controllers (if you are running on ESX), COM ports, or floppy drive

    2. Start the virtual machine Mode without failure. For more information, see start a guest operating system Windows in SafeMode (1004011).
    3. Click on Start > Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs.  Remove all unnecessary programs used to install or support device, drivers such a RAID, network software of grouping or management, software management of wireless card management tools and drivers audio and video. Do not restart if you are prompted by an uninstall program.
    4. Restart the virtual machine in Normal mode.
    5. Remove additional devices or device drivers that have been used in support of hardware on the physical server. Use the Device Manager or control panel, depending on the version of Windows to remove unnecessary devices. It may also be necessary to view the event log to clear the messages failed rest device startup.
    6. VMware recommends changing the HAL in the uniprocessor virtual machine if the source server is configured with an abstraction layer multi-CPU hardware (HAL), and the destination virtual machine is configured to use a single processor. For more information, see modification of the Abstraction Layer HAL for a Windows virtual machine (1003978).
    7. Install VMware Tools and reboot if you are prompted.
    8. If necessary, customize the identity of the virtual machine. VMware recommends using the Microsoft Sysprep utility to achieve this, however, it can also be achieved by manually changing the host name, IP address, and any other record of unique identification. For more information, see How to use Sysprep: An Introduction http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb457073.aspx.
    9. If the System Configuration Utility (msconfig) has been used before the conversion, select Normal startup switch to return to a normal boot configuration. For more information, see using the Windows System Configuration utility (1004010).
    10. Apply any previously deleted static parameters IP address, as requires it.
    11. Reconnect any disconnected NIC virtual, as required.
  • Trying to explain why a VM doesn't necessarily 2 CPUs

    Good Morning-

    I am scheduled to meet with a few application owners who are looking for an explanation as to why we're pushing to deploy virtual machines with a processor instead of two in most cases. at least unti we can demonstrate through 2 processors are guaranteed of performance monitoring.

    Can anyone provide some simple information (or links to these) that would help me to explain (and ultimately compelling) these application owners that it is really better in most cases to use a vcpu instead of two?

    Thank you very much

    Steve

    Yes, physical machines has exclusive access to the material from the level of the program.  A Virtual Machine, ALL virtual machines share the same visor hyper.  It's a traffic COP.  Because inside a virtual machine programs do not access access the material at the level of the ESX host, they see only the CPU, which represents a slice of time.

    VM must have all available resources at the same time to qualify for a slice of time, so the cycles CPU are not ready (for CPU 2 at a time) then the VM must wait.  This expectation was source of delays, delays cause performance problems.

    I'm sure you can see where it's easier to schedule 1 CPU it's 2.  And this is compounded by the more VM with 2 or more CPU on an ESX host, ALL competing for the same resource with make it even worse.

    It is not bad in itself, it is just as you say he has not justified that VM (especially Windows) will actually reach an advantage of 2 CPU in a virtual machine.  GOING Linux, Windows usually does not work.

    Test will be to prove or disprove this.  In my tests, I can't see ANY advantage for Windows, and since produced normally intensive as Oracle and SQL using the multi-CPU would get a performance boost, and they do not increase, I see no reason to waste a CPU for a few extra CPU cycles.

    If you have 1 CPU and you get 100 cycles lets say, by adding a second processor that is expected to double, right?  It should at least be important.   If I add a second vCPU in a VM and it only increased by 10 cycles, it's 10% increase.  Costs and extra CPU and stress on the ESX host is not worth a 10% bump in a virtual machine.  10 VM is duplicate of an ESX host cycles that could be used for other virtual machines, and in turn they increase only in performance by a fraction of the increase, which for me is a waste.

    This is why I do not.  However, I will say that ESX 4.0 improves this a bit, so if you move your user community to ESX 4.0 will reap rewards for multi CPU.
