Can a Windows 7 upgrade disk rewrite a corrupted Windows XP registry

Hi all

My father-in-law has a blue screen on his PC HP Pavilion problem. It showed the following error description:

Failure of a registry file

Unable to load the hive file \SystemRoute\system32\config\SOFTWARE or its log or alternate

It is damaged, absent, or not writable

This computer must be upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate, so my questions are:

1. can I remove his c: drive, connect it to one of the bays expansion on my PC and copy & paste the files he needs to keep?

2. If we run that a Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade disc will be he able to run and will replace the registry with the new data required for Windows 7?

This isn't a very old HP computer we're talking about, it works 4 GB of RAM, a 1 TB hard drive and a dual-core processor. There must be a way to get this operational return. The version of Windows XP, there is an OEM with no original discs to re - install Windows XP from.

Thank you very much for any help offered.

Brett Sanftleben

I'm glad it works for you.

    Hello

You can't do what you want to do

32-bit to 64-bit is NOT a upgrade path if you have always wanted to upgrade 32 bit vista

It must be done with a clean install with a final certificate

and you need a full license of windows 7 to install windows 7 on the 2nd hard drive

You can dual boot vista 32-bit and 64-bit windows 7, if the manufacturer of your computer provides windows 7 drivers

Just use the key of Windows 7 Pro upgrade to your new computer via the "Anytime Upgrade" option. You may or may not need to re - activate by phone depending on how long the Windows 7 Pro key was not in use (see the end of my response to instructions on activation by telephone).

    To start the upgrade process:
Click on start/search and enter the words: Express upgrade
Then, in the list of the search results, click on "Windows Anytime Upgrade".

  • Can Tecra M9 - I upgrade the RAM and get a Windows 7 recovery disk?

    Hello!

I want to know if it is possible to upgrade my Tecra M9 about RAM - memory? I think that I now have 2 GB.
I also need to know if Toshiba sells a recovery disk to my computer with Windows 7, or do I have to buy a Windows 7 disc and serch for drivers on my own if I want to have the new operating system?
My language on the portable computer setting is Swedish.

    Cordially Mikael

    Hello!

I also put t know how much RAM have been mounted, but I checked the Tecra M9 user manual and it can be upgraded to 4 GB of RAM. This means that you need two modules with specification of SO-DIMM DDR2 200pin for upgrade. In the user manual, you can find some information about it.

On the issue of Windows 7, I think that Toshiba will not release a Windows 7 recovery disc because this model isn't Windows 7 supported:
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/KBA9A02PX0000R01.htm

You can install Windows 7 from a Microsoft disc but you will have to collect the drivers on different websites or other, you use the Vista drivers.

  • My Windows 7 upgrade disk has only 32 bits. I want to install Windows 7 64-bit. What can I do?

Upgrade to 64 - bit with this situation?
A few years ago, I bought a PC which has Vista installed on it, but I was given a Windows 7 Upgrade disk to install Windows 7. I was able to create a clean install with upgrade disc. Recently, I discovered that my processor can support 64-bit, so I want to go to that. Problem is the upgrade disc contains the 32-bit version, even though I believe complete dics of Windows 7 contains both versions. It does not mean that I am eligible for the 64 bit version of Windows 7? It's terribly confusing.
What are my options for installation of 64-bit? The 64-bit version can be downloaded or something? I even use the same product key?

Will be the product key, I received with my job to drive upgrade with the 64-bit version, I downloaded?

    Yes.

The key of Windows 7 works with 32 and 64 bit, but can only be installed at a time.

I'll buy a kit of barebones without preinstalled operating system and was wondering if I could use my Windows 7 upgrade disk to install Windows on the new PC.

    Short answer 'NO '.

I need to buy a new hard drive.  All I have is the Windows 7 upgrade disk I bought for some time.  I can the Windows 7 installed on this drive, or I have to buy a copy of Vista/XP to install and upgrade?

If your computer comes with a qualifying previous license such as Windows Vista or Windows XP and the certificate of authenticity is still attached to the machine in good condition, then the COST is reason enough to represent the compliance to the software license agreement. No previous required software installation, which means you can do a clean install with Windows 7 Upgrade disk.

How to do a clean install with upgrade disc:

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD

    Click Install now

    Accept the license agreement

When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

    Click on drive Options

Select the disc/s click on Delete

    Click new

    Click on apply

    Click OK

Click Format, and then click next to proceed with the installation

Skip entering your product key Windows 7 and complete the installation.

When you reach the desktop, click Start, right-click on computer

    Click on properties

Scroll down to the Windows Activation

Click the link x days before activation.

Click on the link that says: "show me other ways to activate.

    Enter the product key

    Click next

Select the Activation of the phone

Click Next when you enter your key page

    Select your country

Click Next, call the number listed

Be sure to explain your situation to the Appeals Officer.

Provide the installation generated when ID requested by the call agent

They give a confirmation ID in return, enter it

Click next to complete the activation.

However, the requirements for the media upgrade is that you have an operating system already eligible such as Windows XP or Vista installed to use it. Since the Windows 7 end user license agreement.

15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After upgrade, you can no longer use the software that you upgraded.

So, if you are always denied, you will just have to reinstall Windows XP or Vista and let it do the verification of eligibility.

  • Wiping Hard Drive, Reinstalled with Windows 7 with upgrade disk product key error

My computer has been acting upward, so I back up hard drive and erased the hard drive with the BACK CLEAN ALL command. I then reinstalled windows 7 from my Windows 7 Upgrade disk and restore my files on hard disk. The computer works fantastic and returned half of the memory of the hard drive. A few days later, I get a message on the screen that I have 30 days left until I can produce a product key from the original Windows installation, does not accept the upgrade product key.

I tried the product key located on the bottom of my laptop for Windows Vista comes with the HP computer. It does not work and it gave me no disk backup for Windows Vista from HP.

I called Microsoft and they told me to contact HP for the product key. I see on this forum that someone else has written a similar plea, because it is a plea, and HP said to contact Microsoft. In other words, Microsoft says to contact HP and HP says to contact Microsoft.

I use Microsoft since Windows 3.2 operating systems and have bought a lot of products of them. It's my 3rd HP laptop, my wife is on her 2nd HP laptop. Well you know what? If I don't get this resolved quickly by one of your companies, and I'm not remember Microsoft, I'm through the two of you.

I don't see where Microsoft is not being fooled off but when it's to the detriment of a loyal customer, so don't worry. HP is also responsible for this. An upgraded version of Windows 7 (to upgrade from Vista or XP) should be smart enough (and I thought it was) to remember that I had the original version and its product key should be enough. Also I don't never told me that I had to keep the old product keys, and it doesn't matter anyway because the product key is always available in my laptop HP, but it does not work.

I'm not buying another HP without your help and actually buying an Apple Mac for my wife and my next computer if it is not resolved. I think that HP is probably as bad as Microsoft so that it will not be solved and I'm not shelling out more money for something I already own.

I have vista Home premium, but does not start it tells me to put my disk installation and repair process. can I buy windows7 upgrade or should I buy the full version, I'm not going to do...? I got my pc checked thourghly and everything is running perfect

Please use the Vista system repair and recovery forum to fix your departure upward.

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/windows_vista-system?page=1&tab=all

Yes, as long as Vista is still installed on the hard drive you can use a copy of Windows 7 upgrade to upgrade your computer but you will need to boot the computer with the Windows 7 dvd and perform a custom installation.  Which will remove all your programs and data so there will be very practical backups.

The best option is to repair Vista first.

Before dismiss you the idea of buying a copy of the full license of Windows 7, remember that it would be transferable to a new computer much more easily that an upgrade copy is.

I'm trying to reinstall Windows 7 on my computer, as the strain of her age is starting to show. I hope that some performance improvements.

But I get this error message:
"The unattended Setup answer file contains an invalid product key. Remove the invalid key, or provide a product key valid in the answer file for unattended Setup to install Windows. »
I don't know if it is just that I have a version of Finnish language of the OS and did not bother to write the error message in its complete form, but something very close to that anyway.
I couldn't find any solution for this through Google. People had got this error, but it is especially in the relations of a virtual PC installation.
Initially, I had Vista, but I then upgraded to Windows 7 with a upgrade disk. I'm trying to reinstall using this disc of Windows 7. My Windows 7 is genuine and I have not had problems.
I think it might be because the codes to activate Vista and Windows 7 are different? Maybe I have the Vista activation code in my file without supervision when there should be order in a Win7 to make it work? Is it still possible? I would naturally opinion of someone who is a bit more up-to-date saw that I could make a mess of things just dive head on.
