can I install a virtual machine of 3 GB memory with physical memory to Go

Hello!

really happy you joined today, but I have a problem: I have a 3 GB memory machine and I would like to install a virtual machine with 3 gigabytes of memory, but I have a question whish is worrying me now: according to my physical memory size is it possible?

Welcome to the forums!

In general, this is possible, but you may face a very slow system then. You must configure VMware Workstation through its 'preferences' to allow the memory swapping for the guests. The RAM is not physically available is provided by the host operating system swap file.

  • Install the Virtual Machine

    Hi all

I hate to ask such a stupid question...

What is the trick to install a virtual machine? The home screen just goes by so fast and I don't have enough time to connect to my drive to install the operating system. Is there a setting somewhere that slows down, so I have the time to plug my hard drive?

    Thank you

  • Can not see a virtual machine server connection mode

    Hello

I'm testing VMWare View and I have a problem. I installed the ESX, vCenter and the view connection server. I have installed a virtual Windows XP machine and installed VMWare Tools + Agent and can not see this virtual machine when I want to create a "individual desktop" under "Desktop and pools. The connection to the vCenter works very well.

    Any ideas?

  • No disc found when installing a virtual machine

Shortly, I explain my setup.  I have a machine running Ubuntu 8.10 x 64 with VMware Server 2.0...  In VMware Server 2.0, I installed two virtual machines that are running ESX 3.5, that then connect to an OpenFiler running in a virtual machine on VMware server.

In ESX, I configured a new virtual machine, on which I would like to install the Windows operating system.  Before being able to start, I had to edit the vmx to this host file and added a few lines while he was able to start.  The boots well VM, starts from the ISO file of Windows XP, but once I have set a drive to install to, it doesn't find everything.

Does anyone know which setting I should do or what profile I have to chose when creating the VM in ESX?

    Thank you.

by default, the Windows XP CD doesn't have the SCSI drivers for the HARD disk.

For BusLogic you can download here http://www.vmware.com/download/server/drivers_tools.html

.. .and I have attached the LSI driver we use for our XP VM

You have to hit (f6) when prompted drivers third 3rd OT install, then mount the .flp file

    hope this helps

  • Can I remote in virtual machines directly?

I run vmware player on windows 7 and have a few virtual machines from CentOS 6 for Windows Server 2008.  I know that I can access virtual machines by remote access in the host operating system, but it's kind of messy.  I can remote directly in virtual machines? I know I would probably mess with some network settings to make it work, but before that I just want to know if it CAN be done with virtual machines running on VMware player or if I need another (non-free) version or what.

    Thank you

Access to a Virtual Machine, everywhere, is not fundamentally different, then access to a physical Machine act accordingly and correctly configure makes directly accessed remotely if you want.  The value of the Bridged network adapter, set up your router correctly to the packages before him and you're in business.  It can also be done with the virtual machine Network Adapter the value NAT however this technique requires additional configuration and another layer of process so the bridged configuration and physical router configuration is easier and more direct.

  • Can not power on virtual machines "cannot access the file because it is locked.

Virtual machines have been working well - then the storage system is down.  After the storage system returns upwards that I can't turn on a number of virtual machines.  Get this error when I try to turn it on:

Cannot power on vmname on esxhostname.xxxxx.com. Unable to access file < unspecified file name > because it is locked
    error

    1. To check the locks on the Service Console on non ESXi servers, run the command:

      lsof | grep

COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE SIZE NŒUD NOM_PERIPHERIQUE
      71fd60b6-3631 root 4r REG 0.9 10737418240 23533

Note: If there is no Console of Service process the locking file, you should receive no printed output. If you receive results, however, file a support request to identify the process and to determine the causes.  If it is a third-party process, however, contact the appropriate provider to determine the cause before you kill the process ID, because it can happen again in the future.

Stop the process and the lock ID using the kill command. In the example above, the process ID is 3631:

      kill the 3631

After the termination of the process, you can try to turn on the virtual machine or access the file resource.

    2. To check if the virtual machine is always a world ID assigned, run these commands on all ESX/ESXi hosts:

      CD/tmp
      VM-support - x

      Available to debug worlds:
      WID =

On the ESX/ESXi host where the virtual machine still works, kill the VM, which releases the lock on the file. To kill the virtual machine, run the command:

      VM-support - X

Where the is the ID of the world of the virtual machine with the locked file.

Note: this command takes 5-10 minutes to complete. Answer No to "can I include a screenshot of the virtual machine", and answer Yes to all subsequent questions.

After the termination of the process, you can turn on the virtual machine or access the file resource.

Deleting the file .lck (NFS only)

The virtual machine files can be locked via NFS storage. You can identify this as reported by .lck files. # (where # is the ID of the world that holds the lock file) at the end of the file name. It is a NFS file lock and appears only when you use the ls command as it is the hidden file.
Beware: they can be removed safely only if the virtual machine is not running.

Note: VMFS volumes have no .lck files. The locking mechanism for VMFS volumes is managed within VMFS metadata on the volume.

You must kill the process that is locked, if it is not the case, you probably need to restart the VMware host.
I tell you from experience most likely end up rebooting it.

  • I can't access my Virtual Machine when the internet connection is disabled...

Hello... I'm newbie here... I don't know if Iam asking stupid

question or good question... Well I can't access my Virtual Machine

When the internet connection is off... it is quite common... or

obnormal... In my area there is a lot of electricity cuts... and

interruptions of network of regular power 5 hours ago

cut... and power cuts not notified... So I can't access the internet

constantly... Is there any solution for this... Thank you

    your valuable suggestions...

    Thank you and best regards,

Just to clarify - you are unable to connect using the default management tools to the servers in your office.

Have you tried to remote desktop, telnet, ssh, otherwise?

I'm kind of thinking he's trying to communicate to the world for the validity of a SSL key

  • Best way to migrate virtual machines to new ESXi hosts with a different configuration of networking.

We currently have a cluster of 6 Dell machines that move VM 120 or so on ESXi 5.5. Networking consists of a dVswitch with 6 uplinks that map to 6 x 1gig physical NETWORK adapters on each host ESXi... These are grouped into 3 trunks / gal, so we have 2 GB by SHIFTING of the bandwidth and failover. The LAGS are configured as follows:

    LAG1

Traffic to our (NFS) shared data store and management of ESXi. (vmk0)

    LAG2

Access to the network of the VM - groups of different ports on different VLANS

    LAG3

    vMotion (vmk1)

We just bought 6 new Dell machines that have connections fiber 2 x 10gig each. The idea is to bring together in a 20Ggig LAG by machine that will handle all of the traffic, so traffic NFS data store, network traffic from the VM, vMotion and traffic management ESXi.

What is the best way to migrate the virtual machine in the cluster existing to the new machines? Many of the virtual machine are essential, so we cannot stop time.

Can I create the new DELAY on existing dVswitch and put it as an auxiliary card? I'll be able to do it for all 3 of the above both above LAGS?

Thanks for the info Alistar, it's almost here. The bit that was me stumping was that after establishing a new dVswitch I received messages that the new dvSwitch was not reachable on the old host, when I tried to migrate the virtual computer.

The solution (with the permission of VMware Support) was that I need to add the two dVswitches to one of the old hosts, then assign a physical alternative on this host uplink to a temporary 3 uplink on the new dVswitch. I then tag all the relevant VLAN that uplink.

This way I can first migrate the virtual machine to the new dVswitch networking so I can move the computer to the new cluster.

Obviously I can only migrate from old to new cluster with a single host. each virtual machine must be a double for the host with 2 switches, and then to the new cluster. I also had to have the two dVswitches to the same version.

Fortunately, I had a physical rising spare on the hosts of the old, otherwise I would have had to break one of the trunks and re-use of one of these uplinks.

Oh and be aware, impossible to use the same names for groups of ports 2 DV switches, they must be unique!

  • I can't install my quickbooks 2010 on my new laptop with Windows 8

Original title: Installation of quickbooks 2010 on Windows 8

Help!  I can't install my quickbooks 2010 on my new laptop with Windows 8.  Does anyone know the tricks?

It is a wrong answer to the question. QuickBooks 2010 cannot be installed from the CD because the CD tries to install Flash and Flash is already built into Windows 8. The solution is to download QuickBooks from Intuit web site and install the downloaded version. It installs without problem and works very well. • The former "cannot change the power state of virtual machine: the process has exited with an error: end of the error message" thing again (Fedora 8/Server 1.08)

OK, this problem beautifully undescriptive I've seen caused by what seems to be dozens of things happening for me.

I made the mistake of horrible update my FC8 kernel to the latest one (2.6.26.8 - 57.fc8).  Mind you, that's all that's changed.  It was with a 1.06 server with happiness and perfectly good computers running virtual in use before the upgrade.

After the new kernel and reboot, I had to rebuild vmmod.  I had to get a fix of any - any later that I used with my previous kernel (116 does not solve the problem of compiling) so I used all-any117d.  Update like a champion.

Try to turn on a VM and Ihanta!, the above error.

    Nothing else was changed.

I tried the upgrade to VMware Server 1.08.  Used all-new any117d - update OK.

    Error again.

I have re-run the compilation, this time to say 'yes' to what the installation script to "adjust the permissions of all virtual machines in xxxlist" or whatnot.

    Error again.

    What now?

    I'm in the same boat.  Fedora 8 2.6.26.8 - 57.fc8 #1 SMP

I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling v1.0.6 thru 1.0.8 with all 116 updates and 117d.   117D compiles with every version of server but when I try to turn on a virtual computer I get this error.

Cannot change the power state of virtual machine: the process has exited with an error:

    Try reinstalling VMware Server.

POST (no connection): failed to initialize the surveillance apparatus.

Failed to initialize the virtual machine.

    End of the error message.

I found several posts other people have this problem but

they are months with no recent activity and nothing that solved the problem.  I found appeared

to get a fix, one updated the all an update that corrects the problem for

  • How can I print my virtual machine XP installed on my computer Windows 7 host?

I can't print from my virtual XP machine which is installed on my Windows 7 host operating system.

The printer is correctly installed on my Windows 7 OS and I can print pages of test and documents through it.

But I can't get my printer to print anything from my XP virtual machine.

    What I've tried so far:

I tried to install my printer in my XP virtual machine as a local printer. The installation wizard installs the drivers of its own database. The icon for the printer appears in the Printers window. But the test page does not print, or it allows to print a simple text document.

I tried to install my printer in my XP virtual machine as a printer attached to another computer on my network. To counter this, I enabled files and printers sharing on my printer to Windows 7 host operating system and then shared to the network. Then I went back to my XP virtual machine to activate the printer installation wizard to install a printer on a network. The installation wizard will search the shared network printers, but do not find anything. I have the opportunity to enter things like the address of the network printer and so on. But I have no idea what to conclude from these boxes.

I did my best to make sure that the Windows 7 host operating system and the virtual XP machine are on the same network, which is a working group, not a homegroup. But I can have failed at that because I don't know much about networks.

    -------

The printer is a Brother HL-5050.

    Parallel cable.

    LPT1

This problem is not resolved. Anyone having this same problem with a parallel cable connected printer will continue to look for the solution.

BUT he is no longer a problem I have to deal with.

I discovered by accident that my printer has a USB port in the back. So, I went parallel to the USB cable. This allowed me to select and activate the printer in the virtual mode menu bar Windows XP special on the top edge, by clicking on the "USB" button there. Allowing the printer in XP virtual mode turns off also in the reception of Windows 7 OS. But then 'release' the printer of the XP virtual machine allows the printer under Windows 7 again. Not much for me.

  • Windows 2008/2012 180 day trial can be used on Virtual Machines?

I wonder if it's in the EULA to use tests of Windows with commercial virtual machines.

I see that there are too many companies that offer these tests with their VPS service. I don't think it's OK. Therefore, I would ask.

I also wonder if the detail Windows licenses can be used with commercial virtual machines.

If I remember correctly, only the SPLA Licensing can be used on commercial virtual machines.

    Thank you.

  • Undetected after the fresh install ESXi virtual machines

    Hello

I have to say I really enjoyed working with ESXi, but I run a quick question for the moment.

I initially installed ESXi 5 on an SD card and created several virtual machines via vSphere Client Windows. Because of the card SD comes off on the reboot (using a Dell R610), I have now decided to install ESXi 5 on a USB key. However, when I open the Windows of vSphere client, I do not see the virtual machines on the host, but I see that they are always present in the VMFS data store that I created earlier. When I boot from the SD card, they appear very well.

    I have to migrate somehow?

Thank you very much for your help!

As this is a new installation of ESXi you can save the VMs from the data store as the inventory.xml on the new facility can be empty.

Measures to save the virtual machine using vmx are available on Ko http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1006160
