Can I put my SATA drive on my PC?

I have an old HP Pavilion (very old) with 80 GB SATA a1220in. Yes, you think I do with such an old PC, but it is appropriate for my use, as I'm not a hardcore gamer or anything.

So, what I want to ask is, can I put my hard drive on this PC? It's 80 GB which takes no time to fill up, and yes I can use the external hard drive, but I don't want to attach an external hard drive whenever I start my PC. And added, I want to Dual boot in another operating system.

Most of the time the drives built for the Protocol SATA II will also work with the controller in the PC in discussion.  It's questionalbe whether SATA III or SATA 6.0 GB drives will be unless they expressly declare that they can be made to work with it.  SATA II or SATA 3.0 GB usually can be changed either with a rider or a software to run on the SATA I controller.  The link you show referencing the SATA I or SATA (serial ATA-150 - what your motherboard calls it) explains the old SATA: SATA revision 1.0 - 1.5 Gbit/s - 150 Mbps

I suspect only an old SATA revision 1.0-1.5 Gbit/s - 150 MB/s will be hard to find, but a SATA II drive, which can be set with a jumper will work fine. See this page from WD:http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/search/1/a_id/1337/c/130/p/227, 294

BTW: Find a SATA II WD drive which has the jumper and it will be fine.

  • Windows 8 can't find my SATA drive (2). It does not appear in disk management, but it appear when I open the tab of properties on any drive and click displays all disks. What should do?

I bought a new computer (custom build) and Frys Electronics put it together for me.  Disk 0 is a 128 GB SSD, 1 disk is a SATA 2 TB drive, and disc 2 is a 1 TB SATA drive. Readers of 0 and 1 have been configured correctly when I installed Windows 8 but Drive 1 was not found\initialized. Player 2 does not appear in the disk management window, but when I click on properties on any drive, and then on the "hardware" tab, the drive appears.  If I can get windows to find it, I can go configure manually.  DiskPart cannot find disc 2 in the 'LIST' command and when I get in car 2 on other commands that require a number of disc, nothing happens.

    What should I do?

    Thank you.

I ran an old Western Digital (the two SATA drives are WD) diagnosis and there are 1 OK to drive.  I tested it and it doesn't have a writing that test a few zeros.  I thought that it was a bad drive and I must return to the seller.  The next morning I tried the WD diagnosis again and this time he passed.  The app then allowed me to format it and it assign a drive letter.

It seems to be OK now, but I'm not load all the files on it again.

Thank you all for your support.

  • How can I put a hard drive of the laptop into a desktop computer?

I have a HP Pavilion 5000 ZV who died some time ago, and the hard drive is always good. It's 60 GB running Windows Xp. there I got the laptop from a friend because they did not want. Also I have a desktop IBM Aptivia since 1998 and it has a huge 8 GB HDD running windows 98. I want to put the laptop drive in the desktop and take out the old one. I would buy a new hard drive, but it's Microsoft Office 2003 pro. This is the only copy I have and I did re install the product key. I need this computer for my workshop. How to operate? Is there a part I need? If Yes, where can I get a?

If I understand correctly, you have a laptop HP Pavilion ZV 5000 which doesn't work but has a 60 GB HDD that has installed Windows XP and Office 2003 is also installed.

You want to put the laptop hard drive in an old desk.

You have two problems: hardware and software.

Hardware issues can probably be solved easily (you would need something like this $10--> http://tinyurl.com/d539pwf kit - but read the comments).

The problem of software is that you can not take an existing installation of Windows XP and completely change the hardware.  If you try, you will need to do a reinstall of Windows before it will work.

If you have a generic OEM XP install CD, you may be able to do a repair installation (save applications - for example Office 2003), but the CD must be at a same or later version of XP (Home, Pro) and Service Pack level as the version of XP that is installed.  You must also have the product key that is associated with the OEM install CD (I think that the key to the label on the HP will fail).

More likely, you will need to do a clean install, which will involve formatting the drive.

If you have the Office 2003 installation CD, you can retrieve its installation key from the drive of the laptop before installing it in the office.  Probably the best way to do this is to put the laptop in a hard drive enclosure external drive, which attach to a working computer and use of Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder using his function to "Load hive".

  • You can mix SAS and SATA drives in a RAID 1 PowerEdge T110 II configuration

    Hello

I have a RAID 1 configuration and one of the two drives in the array has failed.  I've removed and replaced by another drive hoping the Dell Perc adapter H200 would rebuild the mirror automatically, but it does not.  In Server Admin OpenManage virtual disk displays as degraded.  The issue I think may be the replacement drive is SATA where the original was SAS.

Is there a way you can make the adapter accepts a SATA drive or is it simply not supported?

    SIV

    Hello.

Dell controllers, including the H200 are not supported mixing SAS, SATA or SSD in the same table. They may, however, each separately constitute a virtual disk on the same controller. Consider replacing the disk failing another identical or higher capacity SAS drive.

  • Can I use a SATA drive in the virtual host as a SCSI disk in virtual machine?

I'm under (64-bit) 2008 R2 RC as host and VMware Workstation 6.5.2. I installed a linux VM, the distribution doesn't really matter, but now I use Debian 5.01 AMT64. I am trying to use SATA drives to the host as drive virtual in the VM, but not successful. Here's what I did.

-In the virtual machine of VMware Workstation. Add - & gt; hard drive - & gt; use a physical disk - & gt; Choose the device (use entire disk) - & gt; Finishing

The drive is affected as IDE drive. Here's the first question, I can use it as a SCSI drive? There are only 4 available in CD-ROM and VM IDE drive takes one. I want to be able to use 10 disks.

-L' use above configuration, if I start the VM, I don't know where devices are. I can't find any device in the name of/dev/hda, / dev/hdb etc.

Here is my second question. Where are the devices on a virtual computer that were created as virtual disks?

    Hello

    with 2 k 3, you won't have these problems.

VMware affect physical as IDE disks if the host sees as IDE. He attributes as SCSI host sees the SATA or SCSI drives.

If you want to change that - you can use this old post of mine. If the descriptor of uncertain post before use you it so that I make the changes.

    Hello

    Sorry, I'm new here.

Where can I find a driver with ini?

    Greetings ralf

Hi and welcome to the forum!

For your laptop, you can get all the drivers on the Toshiba site:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers

The driver package is called Intel Storage Manager.

In addition, if you are looking for here one bit you can find hundreds of discussions about this. It s really not complicated to use SATA drivers! ;)

  • Satellite 1900-303: can I put the hard drive 120 GB

I have a S1900-303 and I think to raise the 120 GB hard drive. What are the problems, if any, are that I meet and I can do froom the Toshiba startup disk or do I just install XP from a XP disc?

    Hello

That I myself remember Satellite 1900-303 has been delivered with the 30 GB HARD drive.
So, in my opinion, 120 GB HARD drive size is too big and I presume that the BIOS of the laptop will not recognize the HARD drive!

I think you can use a 40 GB, 60 GB and a 80 GB HARD disk.

PS: you must search the HARD disk with the IDE (ATA-5) increased!

Good luck and have a nice day

I'm setting up a Hyper-V in Windows XP virtual machine on my windows 8 Pro for laptop.

My problem is to get the virtual machine to recognize a USB key. I found the instructions that say, on the host, use disk management to set the USB offline. • SAS bays for SATA drives

Is it possible to put SATA drives in the SAS bays and connect them to the SATA ports?

    Thank you

Rimokatolik, your simple answer is 'yes '.  SATA drives may be plugged into the connectors SAS the Z800 and later Z8xx series workstations.  This means that the cables of the drive Bay are connected on the SAS (white) connectors on the bottom edge of the motherboard.  Small connects the SATA drives to the SAS controller.  SAS controller works with SATA drives, so you don't have to move cables to the SATA ports to make the SATA disks to work.

However, if you wish, you can connect the wiring existing SAS to SATA ports on the motherboard and put the SATA drives into the drive bays.

  • How can I put an icon (shortcut) back on my desktop?

I had the icon for my printer (RGC 2400EN.exe) driver on my desk and now it is missing and I want to put the icon (shortcut) on my desktop... I use it (by double clicking) to reinstall my printer driver, when my printer refuses to print.  How can I put the rear driver icon?

    RGC 2400EN.exe

Are you sure that's the correct name?
If so, start button > Search box, type RGC 2400EN.exe > RGC 2400EN.exe should appear in upper-left, done right click it > click on Open File Loaction > it will lead you to the RGC real 2400EN.exe > righ click Home > Send to > desktop (create shortcut)

PS Ce is not the right forum for the question of the computer. It is a forum for Feedback.

If what I suggested above does not work, move your question to the Performance and maintenance forum.

One last thing. ALWAYS specify your operating system before you begin to describe the problem.

  • Can you put a 500 g SATA hard drive in Pavilion a750w?

Can you put a 500 g SATA hard drive in Pavilion a750w?  The bios is version v3.26, and the operating system is XP with SP3.  40 gig HD is full and you are looking to replace it but do not know what the size limit is with this bios version.

Here are the specifications of your HP Pavilion a705w desktop. This is based on the assumption that you converted the 5 and 0 and the fact that you mentioned a 40 GB hard drive.

You already have the most current version of the BIOS of your computer and running the most recent service pack of Windows XP. Your computer and the operating system should support a drive of 500 GB without problem. The only problem is that your computer isn't any SATA ports, only 66/100 IDE (PATA). Look at local retailers and online for the IDE drives.

  • Can I put a Seagate FireCuda drive in my iMac late 2009?

Apple Hardware Test (AHT) says that my SATA drive, 1 TB in size, has a problem.  Nothing specific indicated. The code given is: 4HDD/11 / 40000000:SATA (0,0)

I was testing because of the prob trying to get a good download of macOS Sierra.  Looks like I need to replace a hard drive first.  I have an iMac late 2009 with a Core i7 quad core, 16 GB DDR3 1067 Mhz ram and ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics card.  I can put a SSD in this unit or am I stuck with the Barracuda drives.  I'm looking for FireCuda readers and like what I see and read about them.

If you want an SSD, then I highly recommend:

    • Samsung 840.
    • OCZ ARC100 and other models.
    • OWC 3 G SSD.

The foregoing is all compatible and should work well. Your model only supports SATA 3 Gb/s speeds due to the controller, so don't waste your money on more expensive discs of 6 G or 6 Gbps because they work faster than a car of 3 G. If you decide on a 6 GB drive, however, they must be compatible as they work on the slower bus of 3G.
