Can not get my printer to work - and no way of contacting HP

OK, I have a mess.  I bought a new printer HP - HP 8600 all-in-one - N911a.

He set up and worked fine for about a week.  Then I stopped working.  My wife says that she did that hit 'print '.  (in the meantime, I had to replace the hard drive, so I assumed that was the problem).  New drive hard, all re-installed, but I'm having the same problem with the printer.  Its not recognizing/no impression at all.

I IYOGI they said that the printer must be bad.

I connect through a USB cable.

The computer says "unrecognized device" so I know that the cable is good.

When I try to print the test page, it is just caught up in the print queue.

I don't think that the printer is bad, I think that some his conflict with the printer stupid trying to be a network printer.  I'm not a respectable.  From time to time, the computer connects to a non-secure local network, but I did not.  I want to just plug in my printer dang!

Why the world is so difficult?  And when HP stop supporting its products?

Sorry, I am over 40 so I'm too old for this world and frustrated b/c it really cost me days to try to get all this done.  I swear, I'm going to just use a typewritter...

OK, I FOUND a number on the HP support.  GUESS what the problem was?

I plugged the printer into a power strip / surge protector.  It must be plugged directly into the wall.

He has his own surge protection.

It would be NICE that the manual says something about this...

But mark this one RESOLVED!
