Can switch you from ESX 3.5 and ESXi 4.0?

We have a host in a remote location running 3.5U4 managed by a VC server in our data center.  We would like to upgrade to ESXi 4.0.  There is only the local drive and we anticipate using our VC to manage this host more, we just intend to use the vSphere client.

So can we close the virtual machine 1, which currently sits on the host and do an upgrade?

Or should I back up the virtual machine, do a clean install and then restore a virtual hardware and virtual machine / upgrade tools?

Kind regards...

Jamie

Hello jamieorth,

Upgrades between ESX and ESXi are not supported. You must perform a clean installation.

    Welcome to the forum!

It is certainly possible to abandon W8 for W7 and T530 is fully supported when it comes to drivers and applications.

Personally, I don't see a cons - only cradle YMMV.

    Hello

How can implement you not with Time Capsule and AirPort their simulation on the iMac?

    I don't know what you're asking.

AirPort Extreme is a wireless router.

A Time Capsule airport is an AirPort Extreme with a built-in hard drive for data storage.

An iMac is a Mac computer.

An iMac is not a wireless router, so he is unable to perform the functions of a wireless router.

  • Can Spry - you have 2 columns masters and 1 retail?

I tried this announcement in the Spry Framework, but did not get an answer that works, so I hope someone here can help you.  Sorry to duplicate.

I use the feature of master / detail spry CS4 to create an image viewer.

I have a long list of master thumbnails, and rather than have to go to the bottom of the page in a single column, I would like to spread on 2 or 3 columns masters before the column Details.

(example of format, I am trying to achieve -http://www.franbainbridgephotography.com.au/gallery.html (I don't mind if miniature masters are to the right or to the left of the photo of detail))

You can see my problem on http://www.wcwra.com/webpages/images.php

Is this possible with the function of master / detail?  Following suggestions from the other forum, I tried to change the css for MasterDetail MasterContainer and. MasterDetail. MasterColumn but the thumbnails don't always not overwhelmed on 2 columns before the photo of detail.

    Thank you!

There is no way to repeat a single dataset in several columns, because it is simply an element repeats again and again.

However, with a little out of the box thinking, you can do so quite easily with thumbnails. Instead of putting the master column repeat region in a block-level element, use an element inline, . Images are processed by the browser as inline elements, so it should work perfectly. Of this, change the following code:

    {Caption}

    to do this:

    {Caption}

In your CSS, set the width of the MasterColumn class to your thumbnails width and the width of MasterContainer so that it is more than enough to accommodate two or more tiles. The thumbnails will be invested in column 2 or 3 side by side.

  • If Win XP SP1 is no longer supported, can I reinstall from my system disk and always upgrade to SP3?

My hard drive is filled with thousands of uninstall files and folders while he was trying to upgrade my operating system to SP3. I want to wipe the hard drive and reinstall xp and other software. My system drive is XP SP1. Can I reinstall this version and then go online to upgrade to SP3?

I have a laptop Dell Inspiron 5100 with a Pentium 4 processor and 1 GB of RAM (maximum). I don't think that I have the option to upgrade to windows 7.

While Windows XP with SP1/SP1a or SP2 is no longer "supported" - it's just a matter of installing Windows XP patched SP3 to fall in this category 'supported '.

My suggestion - to make things simple - if you install cleanly, simply download and install Service Pack 2 for Windows XP first.  Reboot several times.  Then, download and then install Service Pack 3 for Windows XP.  Reboot several times.  Then start visiting http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and continue to install post-SP3 90 updates +.

  • How can know you if someone has consulted and used the default Administrator account in Vista?

I was not aware that the default Administrator account is so easily accessible if there is no password on it. In my view, a standard user has accessed this and it seems that the computer is having a lot of problems now. Is there a way to tell? Needless to say I care that much personal info could acceded as well as commercial information.  Security, 3 administartors (users) appears in some of the boxes, and I only know 2 of them, myself and the default admin?  I'm a recruit of the computer and the other person is somewhat a geek so I could really use some help. I am the system administrator, but don't really know what to look for. I would really appreciate if some wiz could help me.

    Thank you

    Hello

You can't find if someone has consulted and used the default Administrator account in Vista. You will need to set up a password so that no one will be able to access the admin account.

  • Can upgrade you 5.1 to 5.5 ESXi host using the zip file?

I read the KB articles which seem to indicate that, to upgrade an ESXi host, you must use a vSphere Manager or an ISO on CD or USB.   But I saw someone go from 5.1 to 5.5 by downloading a zip file and running the commands, as indicated in http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 2008939.

When you connect through the vSphere client, it seems to indicate that it has updated to 5.5, but I fear that this may not be an upgrade path has officially supported or may be missing something.

Anyone here can comment if you can upgrade between the press point with a zip and and the upgrade of the above method fix?

    Thank you

  • Migrating from ESX 3.5 to ESXi 4.1

I am planning a migration of ESX 3.5 Uptade 2 to ESXi 4.1 Update 1 in September.  Material welcomes VI environment is in place for renewal of the lease.  I build the new environment vSphere and attach to the same storage shared as the existing ESX VI 3.5.  My plan is the following...

    1. Get and install a new hardware server (C3000 and BL460C G7).
    2. Installing vCenter 4.1 (leave vCenter in demo mode to expose all the features)
    3. Configure the plugin Update Manager vCenter
    4. Install ESXi 4.1 Update 1 on new hosts and add to vCenter 4.1
    5. Configure the new Cluster and configure HA and vMotion. (We are allowed for vSphere 4.1 Standard Edition)
    6. Linking hosts to Update Manager and sanitize with all updates.
    7. Configure virtual networks (host profiles are an option while in demo mode).
    8. Fix new hosts of VMFS existing databases.  (Data banks are VMFS version 3.31)
    9. Disconnect the Virtual Center 2.5 3.5 ESX host and add them to the new vCenter 4.1.
    10. Cold migrate VM ESX 3.5 hosts ESXi 4.1 bed and breakfast hosts
    11. Upgrade VMware tools on all guests.
    12. Upgrade all the guests computer virtual from version 4 to version 7.
    13. Detach the ESX host 3.5 since VMFS data warehouses.
    14. Remove the ESX 3.5 hosts vCenter 4.1
    15. Install all keys in license vSphere 4.1 (vSphere Standard Edition)
    16. Start the VM guests.
    17. Close and dismantle the old ESX 3.5 hosts.

Any feedback is most appreciated.  Please let me know if I'm missing something.

Then, you'd weigh your losses.  Do you have the characteristics of the hardware virtual v7 for these virtual machines or can you live with material v4?  Personally, I needed the changed block tracking which requires hardware v7.  It really comes down to what you need.  I recommend bringing them up to v7 but that's just my opinion.

  • The Systems ESX 3.5 and ESXi 4.0 share the same logical unit number?

We started the upgrade to vSphere; vCenter just so far. We don't have to level the ESX 3.5 servers yet, but add new servers ESXi 4.

Can we expose the SAN disk to hosts containing virtual machines running on 3.5 4.0 and supply the new virtual machines for ESXi 4 on the same disc?

In other words, is there any change to vmfs or differences in VM structures that prevent new and old sharing storage ESX hosts?  Obviously we would expect not interchangability VM, until we improve the ESX 3.5 hosts and the virtual machines running on 3.5.

    THX

Yes, you can share the LUNS and configure new virtual machines on the same disk.

You can even VMotion VMs between 3.5 and 4.0 if VMs are hardware worm. 4 (have all virtual machines created in 3.5).

What is ESXi system managed (for example with a non-free full license) by your vCenter?  If this isn't the case, then you can not make a gesture like this.  You can probably fake it with enough script and help of some external tools to make disk copy.
