Can't find msconfig

My computer can't find the Configuration (msconfig) system, in fact I don't seem to be.

When I type in the start menu and press enter it just says "Windows looking for msconfig.exe" and then can't find. I did a search for "msconfig" and found nothing, I also searched "System Configuration", all he found was a shortcut to msconfig which is, of course, missing.

I am on Windows Vista.

Thanks in advance.

Hi amcoops,

It sure looks like a hardware problem me - either with the monitor to the video card (it is hard to say who, without replacing a voucher for one of those potentially bad to see if the problem moves).

Go to the Device Manager by going to start / find and type Device Manager and enter and then double-click on the program icon that appears.  Check each device to a red x, yellow! or white?  These identify devices with problems probably (drivers, but also of conflict or something else).  Click on each for more details and troubleshooting tips.  Get the device drivers updated for the monitor and video card.  If you need to get pilots to leave the computer dealer or the manufacturer of the device (NOT of Microsoft Updates).  In fact, you must disable automatic updates in Windows Update driver as follows: http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-disable-automatic-driver-installation-in-windows-vista/. Follow these steps to get the drivers: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/ht/driverdlmfgr.htm.  Once you have the drivers, you can install them via the Manager device as follows: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/193584-device-manager-install-driver.html.  Use these procedures if you are having problems - there might be something you're not doing correctly.

If you update the two drivers, but the problem persists, then it is almost certainly a hardware problem with one or both of these devices.  You will need to refer to the computer manufacturer to test and replace or find a computer repair technician competent and trustworthy (NOT Geek Squad or one of these centers of department store).  If you have a spare part for each device that you know works, Exchange it with the one on your system to see if the problem goes away.  If so, then this is the wrong device.  If it isn't, then this is another unit that is bad.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

I can't find msconfig on my Samsung laptop

    Hi Cecil,.

The answer should be in option 1 below, but I wanted to extend your question to cover alternatives that you may find interesting, I use and like me, can discover that they can be much better at doing what MSCONFIG (or possibly solve all the problems, you must learn how to MSCONFIG beyond simply the method to achieve this.

There are at least three ways to manage the startup programs (maybe more, but these are enough). I use all three, depending on the circumstances.

    1. go to start / all programs / accessories / run and type msconfig.exe, and then enter. Go to the Startup tab and you can check or uncheck the programs to run at startup. The disadvantages are that you get little information about the programs and you cannot add programs that aren't already there to register.  If this does not work, try to use an administrator account to access if you are not already.  Finally, start safe mode and try to use it from there as a last resort of semi.  If you still can't not to him, your choice is to try the diagnosis of the situation (because it is perhaps a sign of other problems) or find an alternative such as those listed below.  If you choose to help out them, then return as there are many possible causes and so many steps to take.

2 download for free WinPatrol: http://www.winpatrol.com/download.html and you have not control these programs, but you can also add new ones, AND what I like best, you can allow it to run in the background and it will warn you if something is trying to add to your knowledge, the start menu (as sometimes happens with some downloads and installations). You don't have to use this feature if you do not want, but I find most convenient. It also provides information more than msconfig.  You don't need the paid PRO version, but I had the chance to get on a special sale of $0.99 and so it was worth it (which I didn't really know until I saw the additional features), but at regular price, I normally do not recommend paying for such products and would use the next option for this level of information instead (but then she will cover most, if not all the details it won't work no real time for you warn of changes as they occur).  But you don't have that, then I recommend the free version unless an another such sale is happening (but the developer said that the last one would be the last of them - is not similar to reappear).  The PRO version is also much more powerful, it must be much more careful with what you can accidentally delete something that you will like that you didn't.

    3. download the Autoruns for free: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx. It is the gold standard to control startup programs and everything started with lots of details and options and different points of view. The danger here is that it is so good and powerful, if you're not careful, you can remove something you really want to remove and your pipe system (but if you pay attention and see proof of caution and don't change anything, unless you know EXACTLY what you are doing and the ramifications to do) ", you'll be fine).

I rarely use msconfig. I use mostly WinPatrol. When I'm really in cleaning things up and need to know exactly what a seed and start-up, then I click on Autoruns to get all the details I need.

This will cover managing processes and startup and startup and programs all that much better. And if you choose to WinPatrol execution only on request and not in time real analysis (as I do), then none of them take all resources except if you use them.

I hope this helps answer your question and gives you options you did not even ask but can find much better (as I do).

    Good luck!

    1. what operating system is installed on your computer?

    2. have there been recent changes to the computer before the show?

Please go ahead and follow the steps mentioned and later a update on the State of the question.

Method 1: Rof the United Nations [System File Checker] SFC scan on the computer that would be a search for system files corrupted on the computer and replace them.

For Windows 7 and Vista: http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

    For Windows XP: http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310747

Method 2:  Also try to scan your computer for the Microsoft Security Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware and other malicious software.

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

Please follow these recommended steps and post if you still experience the problem.

    Original title: slow start

How can I find out what programs are essential in the implementation, we can stop?

    Windows Home vista 32 premium

    Hey Stella-50,

How slow is slow? For example, my machine (e-machine E4264 2.2 ghz with 2 GB RAM) boots in 95 seconds. For me, I call it, in the average. I am currently in the process of looking for a new machine because it is already 3 years old, so maybe that OEN will be slightly faster to start.

What you can 'turn off' will depend on which in fact initially launches upward and, unfortunately, you have not told us that at this moment. Is that you should not disable your anti software anti-virus (updater). nothing to do with your mouse and your keyboard etc.

Perhaps, if you made a list of what application are actually being run at startup (via the msconfig Startup tab) can someone take a look at them and see if, or what can be disabled.

Otherwise, you might take a glance at Startup Delayer http://www.r2.com.au/software.php?page=2&show=startdelay to see if you can delay the time different applications load to allow windows to start up more quickly. I haven't used so I can't say how good/bad it is.  It's a freeware.

There is a Speedy PC Pro porgram on my computer keeps coming back as an error and I can not find the program or software

any where on my computer to uninstall or remove. I don't know where it comes from. Please notify.

If the "program not found" error message is associated with the Windows startup, another solution is to use the System Configuration tool and remove applications from the startup list.

Here are the steps on how to do this:

    1. Move the cursor to the Start menu and then click on "Run".
    2. In the Open box, type msconfig
    3. Heat the Enter key
    4. Click the Startup tab
    5. Remove/disable all uninstalled applications in the startup list
    6. Move the cursor to the Start menu and then click on 'stop'. After that click on 'restart'.

How can I find out what programs I should have started and what are the programs I can start myself to my computer to run correctly when starting?

    Hello

I understand you want to learn about programs, you should start your Windows startup. I will certainly help you to question.

When you start Windows by using a normal startup startup, several applications and services automatically, and then run in the background. These programs include the base system, antivirus software, utility applications processes system and other software that was previously installed. These applications and services may cause interference when you install or run a program.

The system configuration is a tool that can help identify problems that might prevent Windows from starting correctly. You can start Windows with common services and startup programs turned off and then reactivate them, one at a time.

I suggest you to refer to the links below and check if this is useful:

Perform a clean boot to determine if background programs interfere with your game or program

Under the control of services tab hide all microsoft processes
These are the programs that are running at startup you can go through the menu of your program and configure each individually to run at startup.
If you decide it's not worth having to go to control panel and then programs and then decide to uninstall the program.
If you decide to use your drive to factory restore do not forget to install the programs you need.
