can wireless signal is strong, but I can't connect to internet

Wireless has been lost, what it means, no legacy wireless is not available

Hi Jose,

Thanks for posting your query on the Microsoft Community.

Wireless signal can show low if your PC is too far from the access point or router wireless or other device that is connected to the wireless router uses the strength of the network. If some devices such as these are near your computer, turn them off temporarily or move them further. You can move your computer as close as possible to the router and check.

Limited connection means that the PC is connected to the router, but the PC has not been assigned a valid IP address, so you can not actually in the Internet. It can also indicate that a valid IP address has been assigned, but the PC isn't an Internet connection. If you are connected to a home network, try restarting the router.

  1. What is the brand and model of your computer?
  2. Have you installed a third-party security software on your computer?

Please follow the steps mentioned below.

Method 1: Please follow the steps mentioned in the link and check:

Note: this article also applies to Windows 8. 1.

Method 3:

One of the components of the Internet connection on your computer is a package of instructions called TCP/IP. TCP/IP can sometimes become damaged or altered.

I suggest you try to reset the TCP/IP stack and check.

(a) of the splash screen, type command prompt.

(b) right-click on command prompt and choose run as administrator.

(c) at the command prompt, copy and paste (or type) the following command, and press ENTER:
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

Note: If you do not specify a path of the directory for the log file, use the following command:
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

(d) restart the computer and check the issue.

Hope it would help. If problem persists always post back with the current state of your computer and the result of the proposed suggestion, we will be happy to help you.

Kind regards

  • I have been connected to the internet (wireless), then I unplugged the router and now I can not connect to internet. I tried diagnose the problem, but he said that he could not.

I have a wireless internet connection for my laptop. I was connected to the internet, and it worked very well, so I had to unplug my router and all of a sudden I can't connect to the internet more. When I open the available networks, I hit connect on mine and he said: it does not work then I hit "diagnose the problem" and then, he says he can't. Also it is not even give me the option to set my password to connect to my network, but it does when I try to connect to any other.

I suggest to unplug all your network cables and unplug the adapter from your modem AND router. ONLY plug your modem back power adapter in. Wait until you get a steady green light on your router, which indicates that it is ready. Then, connect the ethernet cable from your modem to your router INTERNET port. Connect the ethernet cable from your computer to any other ETHERNET port on your router. Finally turn the monitor for your router.

If you do not do so in this order, the router can not connect properly to the internet because it doesn't have the correct IP address of your modem.

  • can only connect to internet access using wireless or ethernet cable

I use a computer Windows Vista with Internet Explorer 8.

When I try to connect to the internet from my laptop on a Netgear router I can connect only with limited access via an ethernet cable or wireless. My computer detects and attempts to connect (with complete connection) to the netgear router, but then the prompt appears on the screen, "connection takes longer than usual." Then, it displays "connection failure.

I tried to use all the recommended solutions such as move the computer to a different location, automatically get new ip settings, etc... without success.

In the past, I could access the internet without problems and the full connection and wonder if my college internet connection may have screwed up the settings.

    Thank you

    Hi Travis98,

You can try to boot into safe mode with network and check if the problem occurs.

Step 1: to start in Mode safe mode with network you can follow the below given steps:

    1. remove all floppy disks, CDs and DVDs from your computer and restart your computer.

Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the lock button, and then click restart.

    2. do one of the following:

    a. If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then stop and restart your computer.

    b. If your computer has multiple operating systems, use the arrow keys to select the operating system you want to start in safe mode, and then press F8.

    3. in the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to select the safe mode with networking option and press ENTER. For more information about the options, see startup options (including safe mode).

4 log your computer with a user account with administrator rights.

For more information, you can consult the following link to start the mode safe mode with networking:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

Please post back and let us know the results.

    Hope the helps of information.

  • Wireless signal is good, but I get a msg that the dsl has problems. I don't have dsl?

I have a good wireless signal, then I try to log on the internet and very quickly on the line from google, I see web configuration then a msg that I have several problems with my dsl.  I don't have dsl.  Help... I have a virus?

    Hello

    Who is the ISP?

If you are concerned about the Virus, I suggest you to run a scan complete antivirus.

Try to run Microsoft Safety Scanner for any malware or spyware infection and check if it helps.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: the Microsoft Safety Scanner expires 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again. The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

  • Qosmio F30: Can not connect to internet with WiFi safely

I recently purchaced a Toshiba Qosmio F30 laptop and have spent the better part of two days trying to connect to wireless internet. After constantly call Wanadoo (my provider) and accusing them for all this, I thought that the laptop itself is at fault.

What happens is when I try to enter my network key (WEP), default is a different key that I can't see that it's all in the points! This continues to be and im am totally unable to enter my network key. Until it is I turn off security on my livebox thingy and connect unsecurely and as I live in close proximity apartments, other people can and probably will connect to my internet, and I am also told that makes me more at risk of viruses and other.

I apologize for my lack of technical jargon, and that I can not give a more descriptive... uh... description, but I'm just a beginner and not the most in computer science.

Any help would be appreciated more!... Why is nothing simpler!

    Hi Luke,.
Have you tried WAP (shared key) instead of WEP.
In this way, you will need to make your own key instead of having the it generated by the router.
    It is also safer.

To do this, you must enter the settings of your router (usually http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1), enter the password provided by Wanadoo, then click Security. Change the setting WEP WAP (or shared key) and enter a 10digit password then you will need to enter it again when your computer tries to connect to the router again.

It is best to use a wired connection to change settings, then disconnect the cable and wireless.
If you notice that you are connected wireless to the router, and your internet connection is dead, temporarily disable the LAN (reactivate when you are satisfied with your connection works). This would happen if your computer includes your wireless network connection to other computers and the wired connection like you internet connection (even if there is no wire connected).

It is also important to change the administrator name and password to access your router (this would prevent your neighbors children playing to change your settings).
Let me know if you have more problems.
