Cannot add a vmdk file to existing machine

We have received a customer vmdk file that they want us to add to one of their existing virtual machines. After downloading it in the virtual machine data store, trying to add, it doesn't show. It can only be seen if I create a new virtual machine and choose the drive as a system disk. However, then do not start. The vmdk file did not come with a configuration file. Does anyone know how to get around this problem?

I assume that you have only the "die" vmdk file, not the smaller descriptor vmdk which explains why you can see in the VI Client (the descriptor file is what you actually see when you search a VMDK file, not the flat file / data file) once you've imported it. If the file came from Vmware Server or Workstation, it should still have a file descriptor with it - without it you are stuck. If you don't have two files, I'm not sure you can convert using Vmware convertor - you must try this one by yourself according to the previous tips.

You can try to recreate the VMDK descriptor for the flat file. There is a VMware KB on how to proceed:

Depending on the file format of the virtual disk, virtual disk may consist of several hard files, and the error can occur because of one or more of the required . VMDK files is not being restored. If the . a VMDK file is a small text file, it must contain the names of all the -s #. VMDK files.

You get this error because your edit statement has an invalid syntax. In addition, you cannot partition a table that is not already configured for partitioning!

You have to physically re-create the partitioned table in order to add new partitions to it.

  • Cannot add new vmdk to vm from data store space free

    Hello

    what I am doing wrong?

When trying to add new vmdk of VM (SQL) of free space to store data, I get an error. See attach...

I tried 19GB, 18 GB, and even 10GB... the same error. As you can see there is 19.46 GB of free space on the data store.

    Thank you.

chances are you have snapshots or Exchange memory files using this space.

Best practices of VMware is to leave 25 + % free on your VMFS volumes.

I weoud suggest you use another if possible VMFS volume

  • Cannot add VM vmdk

We run ESX 4.0. VReplicator allows us to reproduce our VMS to a remote location. Recently, I noticed that among the 2nd disc of VMs was not recognized correctly at the remote location. I removed the drive and I'm trying to readd it, but when I search for the folder where the vmdk file, vCenter does not recognize that it is there. I used putty and WinSCP and you can see the file, but for some reason vCenter will not see it. Any ideas why this happens?

    Thank you

    Scott

What are the files that you see?

You should see two files per virtual disk, the YourDisk.vmdk and the YourDisk - flat hard.

  • Cannot add to the inventory if virtual machine running on the other guests - iSCSI and VMFS5

5.5 ESXi hosts free standalone version

iSCSI mounts with multiple paths - relatively new unit with more modern hardware

    CHAP not used

I'm running a few hosts in order to climb the same iSCSI data stores. The iSCSI LUN is visible and editable by all hosts. If Host1 is to map the iSCSI LUN (VMFS5) and a VM is powered, Host2 can add that VM to the inventory. It's possible with NFS iSCSI for a reason any. This is for a specific reason? Only when I turned off the virtual computer can I add it to both hosts. Other that just lock files are placed in the directory, I missed something related to the lock?

From now on, adding new esxi hosts does not allow me to add existing virtual machine, less than the voltage first. Once again, NFS does, iSCSI, this isn't. Any ideas?

It is not specific to ISCSI but rather to the use of VMFS. NFS has no awareness VM VMFS is and why it is not possible to do that with iSCSI / VMFS. There is a lock on the disk for each virtual machine of (race), and that's why the second host is not able to add this host to its inventory. With vSphere HA, this lock is released when a failover should occur.

  • Cannot remove data VMDK file store

    Hello

I tried to solve a problem where we can't delete the 2 files hard below (since a ls - la in ssh)

    -rw - 1 root root 262144 Jul 31 13:55 2010 - 10 a-000001 - delta.vmdk
    -rw - 1 root root 133711265792 Jul 31 13:55 2010-10A - s001.vmdk

I tried a rm without success:

The virtual machine is more listed in VCentre (I tried to delete data store manager), I believe that files can be locked for a reason, but I don't know enough to determine whether it is safe to kill the s pid which seem to use the folder:

[MS root@ESX1 server demo disk] # lsof | grep 'Disc of demo of MS Server'
disc of demo server lsof 1317 root cwd DIR 0,18 560/vmfs/volumes/4fb703b6-bb64840f-e817-02215eccbdbb/MS 21592

No results appear if I lsof files themselves.

I can kill these processes? I have not the option to restart the server.

I've also seen mention of restart /sbin/servicesservices. SH , but I'm hesitant because I don't know what this will do - how does affect other virtual machines running?

    [MS root@ESX1 server demo disk] # rm - rf 2010-10A - 000001 - delta.vmdk
    RM: cannot remove "2010-10A - 000001 - delta.vmdk': device or resource busy"

I've also seen mention of restart /sbin/servicesservices. SH , but I'm hesitant because I don't know what this will do - how does affect other virtual machines running?

You can restart the services... There will be no impact to the VMS running... also try to restart VMware vCenter services (services.msc)

If the above does not work, then restart the host seems to be the fastest and the most secure option.

  • Cannot add some JPEG files to the library (randomly)?

    Hello

I just started using Lightroom, and I began by importing all the old/previous/existing images (same old in JPEG format). However, some of them will not add to the library. Lightroom just tells me something went wrong when you add it, but I can see perfectly in Windows Picture Viewer and Photoshop.

Can it be a problem with corrupted metadata? What can I do to fix these images?

If anyone need to watch one of these photos of issues, I can email you one.

Thus, if the PS open is very good, so I would save them as a new file.  Most likely, there are some corrupt headers that PS is a ignorant, but saving of PS in a new file will recreate the headers, and you'll proabably be able to import them.  At least, it's worth a try.  And you could lots with PS, isn't a lot of hassle if necessary.

  • Cannot add or remove files and folders to my favorites

Since I transferred my favorites from my old computer to my new computer, I can't add new files in the folders I had, or remove files or files that were in the list.  If I use the option "Organize Favorites" to delete a file, I get a dialog box titled "file Access Denied".

However, I have no trouble to add new folders or files to my favorites.  I also found that I can move the files from the old list of my favorites in a new folder, but to do this, I first get a dialog box titled "File Access Denied", saying: "you will need administrative permission to move this file.  In this box, there is an option to 'continue '.  When I click on 'Continue', I get another dialog box titled 'User Account Control' saying ' you want the following program to make changes to this computer?  When I click on 'Yes', the file is moved to the new folder.  This is all very frustrating.  Hope you have a solution for me.

    I have Windows 7.

    Thank you

  • Cannot add other titles files

I'm unable to add titles to the other prproj file.

If I create a new title in my project, it works fine. However if I import any other project prproj (I tried 4 files different prproj), the file title appears in the location of files on the lower left, is editable. However when I drag and drop it on the time line, it does not appear in the final video. What should I do? I installed the update of 6.05 cs6 too, but that did not help either one. I ran earlier update 6.02

If you open a title to edit and the ' new title based on "choose the option (I don't remember the exact name, but it is the upper left corner of the icon in the title editor) this should be a new title from the former, who does not?

  • Cannot add "workingDir" VMX files

I need to make sure that each virtual machine has a "workingDir" in the VMX file and if this is it not to set a value. Checking the value doesn't seem to be a problem.

    Get - VM | Get-tkevmx | where {$_.key - eq "workingDir"}

When I try to set the value, it seems to go through the motions without errors, but the value is not set.

    Get - VM myVM | game-tkevmx-key "workingdir" - value "/ vmfs/volumes/newdir/myVM / '.

The above works if I change the channel - key to other settings. What I am doing wrong?

Maybe try a path with this syntax:

    $vmConfigSpec.Files.snapshotDirectory = "[vmfsname] /SnapDir"

where "vmfsname" is the name you gave to the data store

and 'Snapdir' is a directory at the root of this data store.

Also note that there is a space between the slash and the closing brackets.

  • Cannot add new photos to an existing event

I am a user of first time Organizer items 11. I imported all my photos from iphoto and I'm busy to create albums, events, etc geo tagging.

I love the view of events which is what convinced drag me from iphoto, however sound incredibly frustratng having created an event to then find you have missed one or two photos and want to add them to the event, it seems impossible without removing the event, and then creating another.

Am I really thick or adobe missed this use case. I would have thought it was a pretty obvious requirement.

    Welcome Tips

Double-click an event to see all thumbnails. Then click on the button add media downstairs. Select your photo (s) and click on Add selected media items, and then click done.
