Cannot remove data VMDK file store

Hello

I tried to solve a problem where we can't delete the 2 files hard below (since a ls - la in ssh)

-rw - 1 root root 262144 Jul 31 13:55 2010 - 10 a-000001 - delta.vmdk
-rw - 1 root root 133711265792 Jul 31 13:55 2010-10A - s001.vmdk

I tried a rm without success:

The virtual machine is more listed in VCentre (I tried to delete data store manager), I believe that files can be locked for a reason, but I don't know enough to determine whether it is safe to kill the s pid which seem to use the folder:

[MS root@ESX1 server demo disk] # lsof | grep 'Disc of demo of MS Server'
disc of demo server lsof 1317 root cwd DIR 0,18 560/vmfs/volumes/4fb703b6-bb64840f-e817-02215eccbdbb/MS 21592
disc of demo server grep 1318 root cwd DIR 0,18 560/vmfs/volumes/4fb703b6-bb64840f-e817-02215eccbdbb/MS 21592
disc of demo server lsof 1319 root cwd DIR 0,18 560/vmfs/volumes/4fb703b6-bb64840f-e817-02215eccbdbb/MS 21592
bash 16678 disc of demo server root cwd DIR 0,18 560/vmfs/volumes/4fb703b6-bb64840f-e817-02215eccbdbb/MS 21592

No results appear if I lsof files themselves.

I can kill these processes? I have not the option to restart the server.

I've also seen mention of restart /sbin/servicesservices. SH , but I'm hesitant because I don't know what this will do - how does affect other virtual machines running?

I'm running ESX 4.0.0 208167 (according to VCentre) and I watched as a result of discussions among others:

http://communities.VMware.com/message/2037529

http://communities.VMware.com/thread/126894

http://communities.VMware.com/thread/246141

http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 10051

Any help is greatly appreciated

[MS root@ESX1 server demo disk] # rm - rf 2010-10A - 000001 - delta.vmdk
RM: cannot remove "2010-10A - 000001 - delta.vmdk': device or resource busy"

I've also seen mention of restart /sbin/servicesservices. SH , but I'm hesitant because I don't know what this will do - how does affect other virtual machines running?

You can restart the services... There will be no impact to the VMS running... also try to restart VMware vCenter services (services.msc)

If the above does not work, then restart the host seems to be the fastest and the most secure option.

  • Cannot add a vmdk file to existing machine

We have received a customer vmdk file that they want us to add to one of their existing virtual machines. After downloading it in the virtual machine data store, trying to add, it doesn't show. It can only be seen if I create a new virtual machine and choose the drive as a system disk. However, then do not start. The vmdk file did not come with a configuration file. Does anyone know how to get around this problem?

I assume that you have only the "die" vmdk file, not the smaller descriptor vmdk which explains why you can see in the VI Client (the descriptor file is what you actually see when you search a VMDK file, not the flat file / data file) once you've imported it. If the file came from Vmware Server or Workstation, it should still have a file descriptor with it - without it you are stuck. If you don't have two files, I'm not sure you can convert using Vmware convertor - you must try this one by yourself according to the previous tips.

You can try to recreate the VMDK descriptor for the flat file. There is a VMware KB on how to proceed:

  • Windows 7, cannot remove the burn files after back to the top

I have a 64 bit Windows 7 laptop. A year ago I started a return upwards to put on a disc. The backup failed at the time because I ran out of records to put on (had no idea that it would take as much!).

Since then I tried to delete these temporary burn files from the F drive, but every time I click on the option, it breaks down and wrote files are used by another program. I went through and individually deleted most of them, but I still have a few huge to get the judgment and cannot remove the program (86), or on the desktop to the top, mean that they are used by another program.

I burned a CD of all these left during the backup of files and that worked, but the files are still sitting in my drive F, I still can't delete the temporary versions... its taking a lot of space and I got the bsod a couple of times.

I also tried folder in the start menu and delete the temporary files in this way, but it did not result in the F drive.

I tried to rename the temporary files so that I could remove them too, but not to chance it.

I have disc clean up all the time, this doesn't always help with the F drive.

    Your opinion would be appreciated!

    See you soon

How can I access these temporary files to remove safe mode back Burns?

Files waiting to be burned are kept in this hidden folder:

    C:\Users\JDogg\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Burn\Burn

To open the folder, you type his name in the address bar of Windows Explorer.

renatob, read my previous comment.  You should not delete these files you will break your virtual machine.  The reason why you have so many files vmdk is because they are currently divided into 2 GB files.  Following the indications that I have described in the previous post to convert all these split files in a single disk VMDK file.  Then I recommend to perform a disk cleanup to compress the VMDK and reclaim space.

Yo this by going to the settings of the VM, click general, and then Clean Up the Virtual Machine.  I hope this helps!

  • Workstation cannot find the VMDK file, but it exists.

I backed up a Windows 7 year last to Carbonite. He had several defined virtual machines and I now have to watch a Windows 7 computer. I downloaded and unpacked the entire file, I think. When I try to run it with my computer it says

    Could not open the folder "D:\Windows 7 Vaio\Windows 7.vmdk":

The system cannot find the specified file.

But the file is actually in the folder where it is looking and he had the same name. Why can't he see the file? How can I solve this problem?

Depending on the file format of the virtual disk, virtual disk may consist of several hard files, and the error can occur because of one or more of the required . VMDK files is not being restored. If the . a VMDK file is a small text file, it must contain the names of all the -s #. VMDK files.

  • Remove the disc hard virtual does not remove the vmdk files

    Hi guys

I have 2 virtual disks attached with 1 VM. I'm trying to get rid of the 2nd virtual disk. After removing successfully without error, it seems always on the data as _1.vmdk store. I presume that it must automatically disappeared from the store of data too.

I can add this disc again and start the virtual machine without problem.

In the past, I have deleted the virtual machine complete and all the associated HDs went but this is the first time I remove 1 hard drive.

    any advice?

    Thanks to the adv.

Sure! If you select, the virtual disk will be removed only from the virtual machine, but it will always be in the data store. just like what you are facing now. For your needs, you wil had to select B, where the virtual disk will be removed form the machine virtual and then permanently deleted.

Hope it will be much clearer to you now...

  • Cannot remove internal management file (N00b question)

I'm a high school student who has an assignment to make a Flash video.  My goal is to make a really cool Flash video by downloading a Youtube video of paintballers and then by converting their images in a drawing line and then animate the linework.  Well, the problem is that after I imported the FLV in Flash CS5 me is impossible to edit an internal piece of video.  Whenever I try to remove a piece of video, it REMOVES ONLY a SECTION OF THE END OF THE VIDEO!

Now, it should be a simple process, select the block, Edit-> calendar-> remove frames

It seems so obvious that I don't want to delete the END of the video, I want to delete the section highlighted.  What is the point to highlight a section if you just remove 'X' amount of images on the end?  Does not have this feature be called, "Remove frames from the end of the video?

I read and re-read the instructions.  I even asked my teacher and as she says "Google that Stuff."  I don't think it should be a teacher if it is his answer to everything, but I'm not here to talk about her, as the CS5 software.

So what is the procedure for removing a section of the video that is imported from a FLV?  Please don't tell me that the FLV file must already be changed, because then what the point of the change--> timeline--> procedure to remove managers?  Edit a section seems really, really Basic for me for an animated like CS5 web authoring tool.

Please help, on the assignment of the expiry date is not too far away.

    Thank you

    Kyle

  • Cannot remove Microsoft Excel files in the trash,

I encounter a problem that prevents some Microsoft Excel *.xlsx files (and only *.xls, *.xlsx files not or * type of csv file or other) are deleted from my trash. When I try to empty the trash, I received the following dialog box: the operation cannot be completed because the item "filename.xlsx" is in use.

I confirmed that this problem occurs if Microsoft Excel and other applications of MS Office are running or not, including processes related to the MS in the activity monitor.

I use a MacBook Air (13-inch, early 2015) running OS X 10.11.4 (15E65) updated through 10.11.3 MAS. I use Microsoft Office 2016 15.20 version (and also have MS Office 2011 on my machine).

To determine which process is using the file, I ran the following command in a Terminal: lsof | grep 'filename.xlsx '.

    I received the following results:

    QuickLook 607 4r REG 121780 1.4 /Users/username/testfolder/filename.xlsx 11433557 username

When I check the PID in the activity monitor, the process is still QuickLookSatellite.

I tried to delete the Finder preferences, reset QuickLook and QuickLook caching by using the command line and I manually deleted User/username/Library/Caches/com.apple.QuickLookDaemon. The problem has persisted through several reboots.

Here are some messages I receive in the Console:

04/04/16 9:10:53.663 AM com.apple.xpc.launchd [1]: (com.apple.quicklook [606]) endpoint has been activated through legacy launch (3) API. Please go to XPC or bootstrap_check_in(): com.apple.quicklook

No idea what could be causing this and how do I solve the problem? What is a question of MS Office most likely a bug in the OS? Also, I had downloaded an Excel from a reliable source, but it could be a virus?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If Excel or another process has the file in use, it cannot be emptied from the Recycle Bin until it was abandoned. Ensure that the suspicious applications have actually leave or, if that proves elusive, just restart and then empty the trash.

  • I can now explore and see the files, but cannot view__application data, cookies, files "local settings."

I get an access denied message.  I need to change the permissions,

but don't know how or where to do this.

    Help, please.

If you hear information in your profile, then these intentially access files are rejected if the user cannot cause any harm.  However, if you want to get for them anyway, then right click on the folder to which you are denied access (this operation on your username folder can do the trick for all or most of them, but I'm not sure if just those that you need access to).  Click Properties and then click the Security tab.  If your name is included click Edit and change it to full right (if not add your username and give it all the rights).  Don't forget to check the box to apply the change to all files and subdirectories as well.  Click Advanced, and then do the same in the special permissions section in the bottom half.  Once this is done, you should be able to access this folder and everything within it.

Here is some additional information about permissions and ownership may be useful here or in the future:

To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista:http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/. To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article:http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.

To solve this problem with folders, folders takeownership or the reader (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder/drive, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder/drive, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for files and folders/player who can change the required permissions.  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder:http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html. To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article:http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

    I hope this helps.

  • Cannot remove. EML files in My Documents

    Strange behavior!

If I drag the files of .eml WIndows Live Mail (WLM) on the desktop I can remove it by using the DELETE key or click Remove/law

If I drag the files of .eml in an X in My Documents folder, and then close the Winows Explorer and reopen the case, I can't delete them using one of the methods above are the only ways to remove:

1 double click to open individually in WLM, and then use the delete WLM button; or

    2. drag the X folder on the desktop, open it and delete the .eml files using the DELETE key or right-click right/remove

This also happens with the Thunderbird .eml files, isn't WLM that causes the problem.

I read a registry hack that could solve this problem, but I prefer not to do that - probably, it's a bug in W7?

I just went to remove a folder in images, it took on many issues with it. I was able to get them all back. I didn't know I could move everything from my hard drive and started doing them one by one. If new folders have been created. Before moving one of them, I created a folder (August 2013 photo work) and copied and pasted as I remember or trained. Entered it a folder, I don't create but has been named for the folder. Instead of going in my list, he crossed the top of the page. I opened the file and all the images that have been moved to the folder that I wanted them. It wasn't a problem, but I can't delete empty folders that are in the upper part. I had this problem with a file once before and done a search on Google and was able to remove the folders, but I can't find the answer again. Can you help me? I did a screen capture, but do not see a place to include it here!

I fixed it, all I had to do was go on my drive hard GB of photos click on pictures and then a little marker for lack of a better word next to the folder and who opened a long list at the bottom of the list were 4 files, I wanted to remove I have a right click and of course , there was a button Delete and they are gone! I am so happy!!! Thanks for getting back to me so soon :)

  • Cannot remove the baggage files

So I have a file of baggage with no reference more in my project, but the "delete" button is grayed. I manually deleted the rhbag.apj file, but it still appears in my list of hatracks.

    Any ideas?

    Aaron,

Before you take this .cpd file...

Make a copy of the .cpd file.

Launch of MS Access and open the .cpd file (copy).

Click here to view the TABLES.

Two tables are relevant: hatracks and references to files of luggage.

The database structure is not difficult to understand.

The baggage files table lists and assigns a number to each file of luggage (he thinks) is part of the project. If there is an entry for a file here, you believe does not exist, it is a glitch. Remove this record from the database of the .cpd (copy). (You can also follow Peter instructions on how to delete and re-create a file .cpd.)

References to the baggage files table lists each link by luggage and heading number file number. (There is another table that lists and assigns a number to every topic that - that it believes - is part of the project). If the table of authorities entry, see who reportedly has a link. If it's a bad entry, get rid of it.

Temporarily rename the original .cpd file and rename the copy as the original. Open the HR project.

(Otherwise, trash and regenerate the .cpd file and open the project.)

    Good luck.
