Cannot delete a temp folder

I can not delete a temporary file because a dialog box appears that says "the action cannot be completed because the folder or file is open in another program."

I have no other programs running and was wondering if its some kind of malware running?
Thanks in advance!

Hello

Like what tetraethyle3 said on November 1, 2013, the best way to remove the contents of the temp folder is to do a Disk Cleanup. You can follow the steps on the link below in performing a Disk Cleanup on your computer.

How to perform a disk cleanup

In addition, you can also see the suggestions posted by A user and SpiritX MS MVP on April 10, 2010 by clicking on this link.

Kind regards.

I am trying to remove the Windows Vista temp folder. When I followed the path to do so. He reads that it is impossible because the file is already open somewhere else.  I don't know where else, the file could be open to.  Can you please help me.

The easiest way to remove the contents of the temp folder is to use Disk Cleanup: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76073-disk-cleanup.html...  When you come to the box options, just deselect everything except temporary folders and run the program (or you can do a better cleaning if you want and have the time).

If this does not work, try Unlocker to: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtml , who sometimes works when Vista remove program is not.

The file could be opened for a number of reasons - running programs actively or in the background or something that does not close properly.  Try to reboot and see if you can remove it before open all programs other than those in the start menu.

If this does not work, try to start in SafeMode (repeatedly press F8 when starting) and try to delete the folder temp there.

If this does not work, do a boot minimum http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/929135?p=1 and see if you can remove the folder now.  However, do not forget to reboot the system in normal operation, when finished (it is included in the above procedures).

    I hope this helps.

I copied an empty folder of google drive to my office, titled "writing". When I tried to remove it, it comes up with the error: "can't find this article. "This is no longer in c:\user... check the location of the item and try again.

The file is C:\Users\myname\Desktop\Written and it is empty

I tried literally everything, reboot, restart in mode safe, cut and update, scan antivirus microsoft malware scan... and drive check came back normal.
I've tried programs like unlocker and assassin leader, did not work
I have search various forums and tried the old commands MSDOS, but he only says: System cannot find the specified item
I tried to take over, but the Security tab simply says the requested security information are either unavailable or cannot be displayed.
I can create a new folder on the desktop with the name exactly the same and the two would not exist, when I delete an old, I can't then delete again. When there are two "written" files, I can copy and create files and folders in two written records. The contents of the two files 'written' is identical at all times. When I remove one of the 'written' all the content remains in the non deleted "written", but they become inaccessible.

    Hi Srimadhwa

Thanks for the reply. Before I check for any response, I used ubuntu live cd to remove the offending unscrupulously folder.

I really don't think it's anything to do with my windows account (although I didn't try the solution you suggested).

During the copy process that something has been broken that created this file with the path, but no other property, I think that this "confused" windows and it wouldn't recognize that it exists.

  • Cannot delete the file/folder even in Administrator Mode or Mode safe

    I. hate. Vista. Windows XP has NEVER been this difficult to work with!

I recently installed MagicISO. Didn't like it, so I deleted it. He left behind a small dll file and the folder. I wanted to remove both, couldn't.

    Tried safe mode. FAILED

    Administrator account I tried. FAILED

    Tried both together. FAILED

Help me please? How could I not have permission to delete a file in administrator mode? Seriously, Windows Vista is just messed up all unrecognizable... * rant rant rant *.

In fact, I thought that the answer.

    Went to safe mode.

Used ShellExViewer (RUN AS ADMIN) and disabled MagicISO.

Walked over to the directory and delete the .dll and the folder that it is.

Restarted my computer in normal mode.

    Problem solved.

Thank you all for helping me. I appreciate it a lot! I don't know what I'd do without you people. : D

  • Cannot delete the old folder separate disk windows

I had a system OS 3 for a while, Vista, Win7 RC and Win7 Pro.

Win7 RC is pleased and I want to delete records from his drive to free up space.

I took possession of the folder (including subfolders) windows and my account is an administrator with full control account, BUT when I try to delete the old directory of windows first it says I need give permission, I click on continue, she goes through the files, and then a box indicates that I need permission from account owner Joan to continue.

I'm logged into this account. This account is me, but when I click on continue, it says access denied.

It's the same with the old directory program files.

I can't delete, or the old directory of users.

None of them is used. All are owned by mey account (there are only two accounts put in place on my PC and mine's administrator.)

I am running windows 7 Pro 64 bit installed on my E drive.

The files that I want to delete are on the c drive.

How this computer to recognize that my admin account has full right, remove the obsolete operating system?

    Thank you

Can archaeologist, you access the OS Win 7 RC?

If so, use it "Folder Options" in the control panel.

To all the "hidden files" readable.

You say that you are the administrator, you should be able to do.

You also try to remove Vista, as well?

    Do the same with this.

Why you be "denied access" is... because these system files 'hidden '.

Once this has been done, you can now in Win 7 (the one you want to keep!).

In administrative tools, select 'Create and format hard disk partitions.

Right click on the BLUE bar, drive hard 'in question.

This will give you... .with a drop-down window, containing...

    Mark the Partition as "Active".

    Change drive letter and paths.

FORMAT!             -(Third, make just... use this format.)

Extend Volume... (This will be the second to be used, if the button remove one has not already removed those'hidden Files/Folders!)

  • Cannot delete the file/folder

It is a problem of two parts:

    1. There is an mp3 file on my desk that I can open it, but I can't move or delete.  I created this mp3 myself and it's on my desktop for about two months.

When I try to delete this file, a preparation to recycle bar rises, saying "to discover the elements" but never progresses.  I can't close without stop force windows Explorer.

    2. a friend was recently transferred several files containing MP3s on my desk.  When I open the folder, windows Explorer starts blowing (the charge of the Bar starts to slowly fill but taking so long, I don't know that never completed) and my CPU load goes way up.  I can't open any mp3 file (after 3 minutes, VLC media player opens and the file name appears in the playlist, but does not have).  I am also unable to move or delete these folders.

I ran a virus scan and nothing is detected.

When I try to delete these files/folders, a bar of recycling starts, but never progresses and after awhile I cancel it.

How can I delete these files/folders?

Chris, try this command at the command prompt:

    cd\recycler
    attrib - r s h * / s/d
    del * / f/s/q
    RD /s /q.

  • Cannot delete the user folder?

I can't delete the folder \\JONESPC\Users\Jack2 I tried to use regedit, but just ended up with a new \\JONESPC\Users\Jack2.JONESP folder

This problem occurred when I tried to change the username to my main account I could do successfully by using the mode without fail & regedit
But in the process, I created a new account I wanted to delete it later
I went through the normal process via Add or remove user accounts & then click on delete the user account & then remove all files
    But this folder Jack2 remains!

    Then try:

    1. Safe boot mode.
    2. Log in as Jack.
    3. Property to enter the profile folders that bothers you - see here.
    4. Rename the folders unwanted profile by adding the suffix .junk.
    5. Wait a week.
    6. If all goes well, remove the folders of .junk.

  • Cannot delete files locked in the temp folder

I emptied regularly delete all files in the temp via the function folder in the Tools menu of IE9 and also by searching on folder and deleting the contents of the temporary Local AppData file in the users folder.

Ten days ago, I found there are some files in the folder temporary AppData that were locked and could not be removed. This only happens in a user account, and this isn't an administrator account. Opening of properties on any of the files by checking the Security tab, I find I am wierdly the sole owner of the file, but have limited permissions. I tried to change the permissions to get total control and then remove the file, but that did not work, nor has anything else I could think of. This included the stop of all open applications and disconnects all users.

    Other file properties:

-Open with "Windows Shell Commo" - little matter that is.

-Similar names to ~ DF38C18158B32C1039. TMP

    -Attributes: ATI

-The size is small (512 bytes, for example)

    -No previous versions

Normally the files in this folder have names like this except without the ~.

After having in vain tried everything I could think of to delete these files, I downloaded Revo Uninstaller, who managed to remove all the files locked in the record at the time.  However, the problem resurfaced shortly after and this time Revo Uninstaller did not work.

I spent a few days of research on the net and try different options without success until I stumbled on a recommendation to go into Control Panel, search for Java, open its settings menu and refuse authorisation for Java to back up the data on my computer.  It worked - I went back in the folder, the files were no longer locked, I was able to remove them as I usually do and I had no other problems with the locked files. Until yesterday.

I double-checked the settings of Java to ensure that authorization still denied to save data on my computer. I don't remember now if I set permission to refuse when I checked again. I tried then to Revo Uninstaller again, but he failed again to remove these files locked. I noticed today that the date for all files is last July 15.  It seems (so far) no new files have been generated, but I still cannot delete locked files 51 of my computer.  My biggest concern, obviously, is security.  I don't want to locked files including origins, functions and activities that I do nothing on my computer, especially if I'm unable to remove them.

I want to know how to remove these files, what caused do them appear in the first place and how to prevent them from happening again.

    Thank you!

Thanks for this suggestion, Oberwald. It came a little too late, however.  Finally, it occurred to me to try my anti-virus software file shredder function and he managed to remove the locked files.

I believe now these locked files were likely due to some kind of malware - after shredding, my desktop Recycle bin flashed repeatedly icon when I shut down the computer. Also, after have logged you in today, I find everything runs much faster and no sign of keylogging.  Seem to be back to normal.

I was able to save the link and it will try in the future if necessary.

    Thanks again!

  • Several files in a temp folder cannot be deleted, rename, copy, or move to XP

I have several files in my temp folder that I can't delete, rename, copy, or move. I was hunting for them with research and it brings back me to the same temp file. The registry can not find them. I even tried to delete using BACK, but it says no file. I get no error message just bong when I try to remove it. I just tried to delete them in safe mode, it did not work.

You can navigate to the folder in the command prompt?  From the record have you tried del *. * ?

Run a chkdsk /f on the volume.

  • What happens if I delete the files in the Temp folder in Windows 7?

What is happening in the windows--> Temp folder in windows 7, and if I delete the files there, that will be a problem?  I want to free up the disk space of 1.8 G, but can't find any info anywhere of the consequences of deleting these files, what they are for, or how they got there.  Thank you!

In general, it is safe to delete anything in the Temp folder.  Sometimes, you can get a "Cannot be deleted because the file is in use" message, but you can just ignore these files.

For safety, do your Temp directory deletion right after you restart the computer.  Sometimes a program installer will put something in the Temp directory it needs to complete the installation after a reboot.  If you restart and wait a bit so that they were, whatever left in the Temp folder should be OK to delete it.

If you want to be conservative, use the built-in Disk Cleanup tool (type of cleaning disc in the search box).  If you select "Temporary files" as one of the elements to clean (deleted), by default, that Disk Cleanup removes only the files that have not changed in 7 days.
