Cannot import Lightroom catalog created on my PC to my Mac

I have CC Lightroom installed on my PC and my Mac. Recently upgraded to the use of the stand-alone version of the CC version.

The PC and Mac have installed according to Creative Cloud Manager version "later."

I have a number of books of marriage created on my PC that I need to install on my Mac. Here are the albums complicated with several pages including 250 photos.

I followed advise from this forum and saved the books as a catalogue, including images and page layouts.

When I try and do a 'import from another catalog"on my Mac, I get an error:

"Lightroom cannot import this catalog.

The catalog was created by a newer version of Lightroom. »

Hi WerdnaM,

It seems that you open an old version of Lightroom on your Mac.

Please check and make sure you have Lightroom CC launched on Mac.

  • Is it possible to import a catalog of Lightroom 3 in an earlier version of Lightroom?

I shoot for a couple other photographers and provide them with the files.  My workflow has been to import the RAW files in Lightroom 3, make selections and adjustments of the base and then export my selections/settings as a catalog so that they can make additional adjustments they want (cropping, color/contrast, rename, etc.) while working with RAW files.  One of my clients works with an older version of Lightroom (LR2) and cannot import the catalog due to a version error.  Is there something I can do to make my catalog that is readable by the old version when exporting?  Thank you!

LR3 catalogs can only be read by LR2.

For the person who has LR2, you will need to provide exported TIFF.

I am totally confused and aren't sure what to do next.

You need a new external drive, and you need to STOP using your old.

There is no real repair a hard drive once it starts to miss. Of course you can repair the file structure, but it's to get the file there. Once a drive starts to go wrong it will never get better or even remain the same.

  • Cannot import the EXHD catalog to new mac error message: Parent folder does not allow for files to be created in the breast of this

I have an old mac in 6 years that the battery exploded so I bought a new mac (Macbook Pro 13, 2015, running OS X El Capitan). I have an external hard drive that I backed up my LR5 the catalog and raw files on my old Mac. On my new mac, I have my EXHD plugged and the LR5 (of membership cloud of Adobe) running. I'm sailing LR5 to open the catalog on my EXHD do, essentially, on all my edits on my photos on my new computer. I get the attached message that it does not bc the parent folder does not allow for files to be created in the breast of the it.

    What should I do?

Old mac still works so I was wondering if I could try to save the catalog on a USB (its about 4 GB) and rather than the new mac. Or try to save the EXHD catalog in a different way or something.

    Thank you very much!

  • Lightroom catalog cannot be opened. WHY?

My computer crashed. Lightroom is now ask me to re - enter the serial number of my software (I bought it before the set monthly subscription thing) and then telling me "cannot open the Lightroom catalog called"Lightroom Catalog"because is another application already open." I gives me the ability to "choose a different catalog", "continue" or "quit". There is no other catalog, I only have one created. I click on 'continue' and nothing DON'T get PAST. The message window will Flash, and here I am watching the same error message that gives me the same options to "choose another catalogue", "continue" or "quit".

WHY CAN I NOT ACCESS MY PROGRAM OF LIGHTROOM? HOW CAN I FIX?

It should be noted I tried clicking on the three options. "Choose a different catalog" simply evokes a directory showing what I already knew; that I don't have that one catalog. 'exit', of course, leaves through the window. I also shot to the top of my task manager to verify that no other programs/applications were running, so I don't know yet, I received this message from another application have my Lightroom Catalog open in the first place.

    Help, please

    It worked!
Simply by removing the file ".lock" with the same name 'error' catalogue spoke, I again was able to access Lightroom.

Side note: My mistake of 'catalogue' began to appear after my computer crashed as well.

Thanks for the advice everyone! penderra Hal P Anderson farriswlphotos

  • I just upgraded to window 7 for windows does not start Lightroom 10 6 because it cannot open the catalog or one of my backups

I just upgraded to window 7 for windows 10. 6 Lightroom does not start because it cannot open the catalog or one of my backups

Yes, once the user account is the upgrade to windows 10 have permission on the folder of photo issue, which prevents the Lightroom to create the necessary temp file when the catalog is launched.

This is the reason why I asked to copy the catalog file to another location to narrow down the reason for the problem.

    Thank you

  • I had to reinstall my computer, how do I import my (old) about lightroom lightroom catalog 4?

Can someone explain how to import the catalog into a 'new' version of lightroom. I had to reinstall and would be very convenient to retrieve my catalog!

    Thanks in advance.

If you installed all of your images on the new computer at the same location and copied your old catalog to the new computer, all what you have to do is and then double-click Catalog. If it were an earlier version, the new version will be convert and create a new copy of the catalogue, which will be compatible with the new version of Lightroom.

  • How to resolve the error: "lightroom could not import this catalog due to an unknown error" during an attempt of "import catalog?

I have about 400 000 pictures of so given the high number of 15 years, I had all my photos in 6 catalogues to avoid potential problems. All photos and catalogs are in a 4 TB Seagate external hard drive. I use Adobe Lightroom 5 and I use a PC with the latest Windows Office 2013.

I wanted to have a NEW catalogue of all my rated 1 star + photos of all years in a single catalog. So I created this I called Catalog + Star and told me the best option is to import a catalog at a time, and because there is no way to filter import them just photos now, I would like to import all the photos and then delete all the photos of UnStared. I did for the catalog of the year 2014, but in the end gave me the message: "lightroom could not import this catalog because of an unknown error. He had in fact imported about 40 k pictures of about 50 k total. I tried again and again and each time I end up with the same thing. I created a new another catalog and looked from scratch and the same ting happened: EXACT 40 k photos or JUST have been imported and others were not! When I imported catalog year 2013 of about 45 photos of k, it worked perfectly. But when I imported catalog year 2012 35 k photos, it's the same thing!

All the tips: 1) on how to solve this problem? and (2) if there is a way better and easier to create this main catalog of all looked at them Photos of all my catalogs?

Okay, my starting point is that LR can contain fortunately 400000 + photos, and it's a mistake to create a 1 star and catalogue as you suggest. Instead, I would recommend that you create a master catalog of all your photos, you can then question however you want - 2 stars, or a certain keyword, or with "xyz" in the title, etc.

If you are intent on going this way, you could try a slight change in what you have done so far. Instead of trying to import a complete catalogue and then delete photos of TSE, take the 2012 and 2014 catalogs and select only the photos 1 star. Then to Export in the catalog for these items and import the 2014-1star and 2012-1star in your new catalog. Can pass the problem images that I think are the problem.

If this does not work, or if you follow my initial advice, you're going to need identify the image where the failure occurs. You may have a corrupted image file, and replacement of your backup can be enough to solve the problem. Alternatively, it may be a corrupted in the catalog folder, and in this case, it may be sufficient to remove the image from the catalog and import it again. You can try to select everything in the catalog of 2014 and see if you can do an export as catalog, creating a 2014 clean and delete file previews of 2014 could also get rid of a potential problem. Another thing is to try exporting in the catalog for images 1-40000, then a second export as catalog images 40002 - 50 k.

So a few things that you need to try, rather than a magic bullet and a recommendation to change the underlying meaning.

  • Import for Lightroom 4 old Lightroom catalog on the new Mac.

Begins to import then it says it cannot import because of the unknown error.

Sometimes I can get to import, but it does not matter the previews.

All I want are the previews and keywords from my old computer to my new Lightroom so I can use my catalog of the archives.

    Help, please.

The exported filed was corrupt. I had to export them again from the old computer, and then I used your method and just opened this catalogue directly instead of importing it. He just had to update the catalog, Lightroom 4 and it worked like a charm!

NOTE: Just using the old catalog file did not work. Lightroom could not find previews while exporting the entire catalog of new links for previews. Thank you

I've been struggling for hours to open lightroom. My computer turns off without reason, and then I went back into the light room and had the following startup message:

Lightroom can't use the lightroom catalog 5 catalog because it is not writable and cannot be opened.

I tried everything I can. I searched online and you have deleted the files of 'locking' of the catalogue record. I did what is obvious and just rebooted. I checked the 'permissions' and nothing has worked. Help, please. I JUST finished images edited in 1000 and I need to export. I won't cry if I need to change their brand new

In your OS, the folder that contains your catalog must have read & write permission.

If you think that you already have, we show a screenshot so that we can see in the Explorer Windows/Mac Finder folder that contains the catalog file; and show us an another screen shot of the permissions on this folder.

Also, please check the catalog file in your operating system to ensure that it is not set read-only.

  • Cannot import from another catalog

Lightroom is (or I) get confused in the attempt to import from another catalog.

I shot 193 images. I imported the to my catalog on my desktop computer. Decide later that I wanted to edit on the road, I copied (using the operating system) photographs for the catalog of my laptop. I edited the and then exported the folder as a catalogue, deciding not to export the negative files too since that they were already on my desktop.

Back on the desktop, I tried to "import an another catalog" (by selecting the catalog on my key USB has more of the laptop). But all were grayed out and it wouldn't let me check the files at the top left under catalog content. I think the other options said 'New photos (found nothing)' and "Changed (Nothing found) existing photos." Under "existing photos that are missing," said he found 193, but it made no difference what choice I made there, because the import tab is grey.

Thinking that Lightroom was not aware that the 193 pictures on desktop and laptops were one and the same, I went back to the laptop and this time this export negative files too. Then I deleted the original folder of photos, who intend to import from the catalog again, this time with the negative of files in my Office catalogue. For Lightroom have forgotten they ever existing on the desktop. But the same problem still occurs in the dialog box - it wont let me select the folders, the photos are grayed out and import the button is too.

Anyone know why I can not import anything from this catalogue?

    Thank you!

I does not solve the problem but I have found an acceptable workaround. I restored the images that I had deleted in the original folder and then copied the files .xmp of images published on the laptop (using the file manager), paste it into the original folder on the desktop and then said LR to replace the original metadata. It is not the same as importing the catalog, but it is good enough for now.

  • 5.7 Lightroom on Windows 7 64 bit home says that it cannot open the catalog because it is not writable or is in use, but it is writable and is not in use.

I just reinstalled and all my Lightroom stuff is in a single folder. So I simply pointed out Lightroom in the folder once it has been reinstalled, but I get this message saying 'Lightroom cannot use the catalog because it is not writable or in-use'.
    Any ideas what is wrong?

Trying to find a file whose name ends with .lock in the same folder as your catalog file. If there is such a file, remove it. Do not remove anything else.
