Cannot install printer CD, error: ' run as... '. ' (admin) when I have admin privillages

Hi, I have a HP LaserJet 3055, it was great to work for about 2 years on Windows XP SP2 (32 bit).
I recently bought a new computer and installed Windows 7 (64-bit). I tried to install the printer from the CD I received from HP.

The problem is it stops the installation in the 2nd step, saying it does not meet the criterion for the printer or something like that, by explaining that I don't have admin privillages to install HP, and I do (actually, I only have one account on this computer).

What should I do?

(I already tried "right click > run as Administrator" on hpsetup.exe and autorun.exe, does not seem to change much)

Thank you.

Hello

The original CD is not designed for Windows 7, so the error appears.

You can find that support OS version on the CD itself.

The solution provided for Windows 7 is already built into the operating system, you can follow the steps below to stable the printer on your new operating system:

http://h20000.www2.HP.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/document.jsp?&objectID=c02536257

Remember that as an older model than a basic solution is available for the most recent OS versions, both the product concerned support scanning for USB connection, one impression is supported by the network as indicated on the document above.

    Hi jessheffernan2003,

This problem occurs because Windows Vista does not support the installation of kernel-mode printer drivers. Windows Vista only supports installing user mode printer drivers.

To work around this problem, try to get and install a printer driver as a user on the Windows NT 4.0 computer. If you can not get the particular user mode printer driver, try to get a driver printer in user mode compatible with the kernel mode printer driver which is hosted on the Windows NT 4.0 computer. To get a printer driver updated for the print device, contact the manufacturer of the printer.

    Hello

What is the exact full error message?

You can try the following methods

    Method 1:

It seems that the Windows Installer service is corrupted. You can try to unregister and reregister the Windows Installer service and check if the problem persists. To do this, follow these steps:

    (a) on the start search box, type "msiexec /unreg", and then press ENTER.

    (b) then type "msiexec/regserver" and press ENTER

    Hey @brommmmm,

One thing we know for sure is that your computer and the printer doesn't seem to like. I think that there are problems with your registry that are causing all these different errors, especially since the error log for the program installation continues to point to the registry key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Hewlett-Packard\Install\ {BCDD692B-17 2D-440-9A1B-501C71D72CC8} for permissions problems. I have a little more suggestions to solve these problems in System.

Step 1: Uninstall your printer software and drivers

Step 2: Run the CCleaner on your computer to fix registry issues:

    CCleaner

Step 3: Unlock hidden Admin account:

    1. Open the display Start again by clicking the Windows start at the bottom of your computer screen icon or by selecting the Windows button in the bottom left of your keyboard to the right of the Ctrl key.
    2. Once the splash screen opens, type command prompt
    3. Once the result of the search for the command prompt appears, do a right click on it and "run as administrator"
    4. Once the command prompt opens type: net user administrator / Active: Yes and press ENTER.
    5. Then, restart your computer
    6. When your computer turns back on, you should be able to log in to the new administrator account that appears. This account will not have a password on it.
    7. If your computer will automatically connect to your normal spending users user account and log on to the administrator account.

    Step 4: Install printer:

    1. Once you are logged into the new account administrator download and run the installation of your printer: HP Deskjet F2400 all-in-One series Full Feature Software and Driver
    2. Start the installation of your printer.
    3. Once the printer installs successfully log on the administrator account and log in to your normal user account. The printer should now be installed on your normal user account.

Step 5: Disable the hidden Admin account:

    4. Once the command prompt opens type: net user administrator / active: No. and press ENTER.
    5. Then, restart your computer

Please respond and let me know if everything works now. Fingers crossed!

  • Cannot install printer software

Try to install the software for the new printer and it does not allow me to. I changed our main account user to the Administrators group and rebooted the computer and the error msg still appears when I try to install the software that I am not an administrator. I even tried to disable UAC temporarily to allow installation and the error msg always comes to the top. Any suggestions? Tried to create a new user to be admin, but it would not allow me to create.

When you go to run Setup, right-click on it and select run as administrator from the context menu; you will need to provide your credentials for administrator (user name and password).
