Cannot open a PSD (perhaps damaged file?)

I downloaded a file psd from this link:

Strongest ever seen in the Andromeda Galaxy. ESA/Hubble

I downloaded the fullsize original, which is 4.3 GB and to 69536 x 22230 px resolution. After finished downloading, it says that the file size is 1.52 GB.  I don't know if the download was unsuccessful?

When I try to open it, it says "could not complete your request because an unexpected end of file has been detected."

I have 8GBs of ram.

Hi meliksah,

Please see the thread below and Yes please check if the download was successful.

Could not complete your request because an unexpected end of file has been detected!

Let us know if that helps.

Kind regards

Mohit

  • Cannot open the PSD made Mac on Windows

When I save photoshop documents on my Mac, they are unable to open Windows. This happens about 60% of the time. The only way I've learned to solve this problem is to create a new photoshop document, copy all the layers in this new document, and save it again. Does anyone have ideas, what could cause this problem? The Mac is new - in about three weeks. Save us all of our files on an external hard drive on the Mac. All of our computers are CS6.

From your description, I would it is possible that the file is transferred to the PC without the extension of the file somehow.

Because Windows hides extensions file by default anyway, there is still some confusion.  I suggest you to check that the file is really named xxxxx.psd.  The file extension is needed under Windows.

Chris and judges are also experts.  Follow their advice as well.  Photoshop 13.0.0 had a problem where it could jumble of things during a backup, most often appear as garbled text layers.  I guess it's possible that could cause a file cannot be opened; I'm not sure.

Please see for yourself what version of Camera Raw is supported by a camera and what version of Photoshop is compatible with this version of ACR:

Make sure it is Nikon Transfer provided with your camera. Older versions may corrupt the NEF files.

  • Cannot open my D800 Nikon NEF files

    I'm on Mac OX 10.6.8 13.6.1 Photoshop x 64, Camera Raw 7.1.0354 and Lightroom 4.4.

Now, Camera Raw and Lightroom will not open my D800 Nikon raw files. Why is this!?

My iMac is 2006 model year, and cannot be upgraded to the Mavericks (thanks Apple!)

I did not worth it to upgrade my Nikon software from the disc that came with the camera!

Is there a disk? Did not notice

Anyway, there is no reason to use any Nikon software to import the files, Lightroom that will do everything as well.

The version of IE is Vista Home

Can you help me with some of the other instructions.

    1: how to run WMUtil

2: How can I deactivate AVG

    3: How do I restart

    Thank you

    John Gifford

You are is Windows Vista Home version. Open Internet Explorer and click Help | Everything. You get the error message is a known problem with IE8, although I thought that was patched.

1: Download the zip file. Right-click | Extract all. Click on the result and run it. You will see buttons for compact and repair the database.

2: click the icon in the Notification area to open the program. You will need to look around, after that, as I'm not familiar with the details about moy.

3: click Start, and then stop. When the computer is turned off completely, press the power button to restart.

  • CANNOT OPEN THE PSD FILE

I am running PS CS6 display and it is "could not complete your request because it is not a document valid photoshop" after a power failure. I tried lots of different process to resolve my PSD download PSD file file.  Help, please.

  • Cannot open multiple PSD files more

I was working very well in CS4 11.0.2 last night. Wake up and get back to work today, I can no longer open more than 1 PSD both. I can open all of them very well, but if I want to have more than 1 no open, no good. If I do a file-> open or a brake or a double-click, the result is always the same: the cursor turns as if it was the treatment and then just simply no result. Without dialogue, nothing. I can of course work in the other open, but the 2nd just does not open. And Yes, the PSD files is fine, since I can open each of them with or without problem, and on my other computer I can open more than 1. Anyone know what's the deal?

Hmm, reboot again seems to have fixed.

  • Cannot open the document because the file is locked. Use the 'Properties' command in Windows Explorer to open the file.

I am a member of the Administrators group on my computer.  I have a folder full of files and other folders that I denied access for administrator users.  Not sure when it appeared that I had gone for the holidays, but now I am unable to open the files located in this folder.  I can delete, move, and rename at will, but can not open.  I tried all the resets of permissions I can think as well as read all knowledge base articles I can find but still not get these files to open.

I've recently updated MS Security Essentials, do not know if this has a any correlation.

At one point, I saw the certificate and it ranked as not approved.  How would this change?  Would this impact my ability to open files yet again let me move, delete and rename?  If so, how can I solve?

I restore to a restore point previous and not yet open - also received an error message telling me MS Security Essentials would not work properly.  So I undid the restore.

Thank you in advance for any input.  PatrixUSA

In fact, it starts to make a lot of sense today.  The files that you have problems with have been encrypted with EFS.  EFS is closely related to the NTFS file system.  As long as you move files encrypted in the same Volume, it is not a problem, because a move is an operation of directory and the directories themselves are not encrypted (only the files that are there).  Whenever you move an encrypted volume to another file, the file must be decrypted, transferred to the other volume, then re-encrypted to destination.  Thus, the destination volume must be a NTFS file system to keep encrypted files.  If the destination is not a NTFS volume, then the copy would result in a file that is not encrypted at the destination and you will be prompted as to whether or not to allow the operation.  In all cases, a copy of volume-volume requires decryption of the file and any operation that requires a decryption error of access for you - more your inability to open a file normally indicates that you no longer control the certificate to decrypt the file.

Backups are another matter.  If you are using Microsoft Backup utility (NTbackup), so he recognizes the encrypted file attribute and it backs up as - is without decoding.  Other 3rd third-party backup programs may not recognize the encrypted files and simply read and write to the backup media.  When this happens, the files are automatically decrypted to read (assuming the user certificates requires archiving) and writings of backup to a file unencrypted.  This would explain why you can retrieve an archive and it is not encrypted.  DVD and optical bands do not use NTFS, so a decryption of the original file is required to save in these environments.

The private part of your (needed for decryption of files) EFS encryption certificate itself is stored encrypted on your computer.  To decrypt, Windows uses your SecureID, password, and other things of which I'm unaware.  If your password is not reset in the normal way (i.e. by entering your current password and your new password) such as an administrator, then your certificate is not re-encrypted to your new password and your access lose him and with him, access to your EFS files.  Other forms of corruption can cause you to lose your certificate, but it seems that at some point you have lost access to your certificate and therefore cannot access files that have been encrypted under this certificate.

New files that you write in a directory that has been activated with EFS will notice that you have a valid certificate and then automatically generate a new certificate that will be used to encrypt files from right now.  That's why the new files that you add to this directory appear to work well.  The only real mystery what I can't explain is the reason why a system restore to a time where it wasn't a problem does not allow you to restore access.

If you want some heavy reading, try this:

"Encrypting file system in Windows XP and Windows Server 2003"

Personally, I'm not fan of the EFS because of problems like this.  I prefer the freewareTruecrypt which is just as safe, but I myself manage keys (in the form of password) instead of Windows.  Also, it hides the names of files and can be used safely on a connection in network and backup from windows volume is encrypted little matter how they are done.  I have not lost all data encrypted in more than a decade.

  • Cannot open in only two JPEG files.

I was not aware of this problem until recently, so I can't tell you when it failed.  I went to search for images in the file and now they won't open.

I tried in the Gallery of photos, paint and PhotoShop CS2.  I get errors of each of them as written below.

MS Photo Gallery: Photo Gallery can't open this photo or video.  This file format is not supported or you do not have the latest updates to the photo gallery.

Paint: C:\Users| Owner | 2009 | 07. IMG_3618.jpg Paint cannot read this file.     Is not a Lea bitmap file, or its format is not currently supported.

PSCS2: Could not complete your request because we find a unknown or invalid JPEG marker type.

In his only two files that are July and August 2009, so the files were fine until recently, but it may have been several months since I looked inside.

I have Vista Home Premium, I believe.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi BWildAussie,

    ·         Are you able to open other.jpeg files in MS Paint or Windows Photo Gallery?

    ·         You did it of any material changes or software on the computer before this problem?

    ·         What is the file size of JPEG files?

For now, I suggest you to copy two .jpeg files to another computer and check if you are able to open them.

Please provide us with more information so that we can help you in a much better way.
