Cannot open BIOS

Hello!

My keyboard shortcuts is not regular F1, F2 and so on... I need to press the FN key to have their normal function. If I press F7 sound is rather low, instead of the function F7.

Ive read a lot of articles on starting the BIOS with the F10 key when startup. But it does not work for me. Even if I press the FN and F10 - key or just the key F10. I can't get the bios to boot. It is a new laptop so I don't know why my F keys functions is not fair.

Can someone help me?

/ Isabel

Hello

Try the following - this implies that you are using Windows 8 or 8.1

Temporarily close the laptop by holding down the SHIFT key when you click Shutdown to prevent a boot hybrid.

Now TAP the ESC key as soon as you press the power button and see if it will launch the Start Menu.  If this is the case, select the Menu of the Bios ( f10 ) from here.

Kind regards

    Hi all!

    I installed HP ProtectTools on a HP ProBook 450 G0 and after that I can't open the BIOS settings. The gel sceen after pressing the F10 key. Also starting is not possible.

    If I press (very early) Esc key and "F7 for spare key" I can connect with user password and the system boots. If I restart Windows I get the screen of the BIOS with password or authentication of fingerprint and all is ok!

    I never heard of this issue, but try to update the BIOS as Akuma said. It s worth a try! On the Toshiba site, you can search for an update of the BIOS:

    In the worst cases, you should try to reinstall Windows using the Toshiba recovery disc.

    Hi @shiner2348,

    Thank you for your inquiry.

    I understand that you receive the error message "Terminal failure cannot open the file"C\:HP\DATA\HPLB. " DAT' to read '.

    This is a reference to the launch of HP software box.    I suggest to uninstall and then restart your laptop.

  • Cannot open COM1. Please check your port settings, XP SP3

    Hello
    I have some XP SP3 workstations that are used in the factory.  The shell of charge is attached to COM1.  When I test the appliance to make sure that all devices work, the shell load test will not open COM1.  When I use HyperTerminal to test COM1, I get the message "cannot open COM1. Please check your port settings. "I checked the BIOS of a workstation and compare it to the non-working station.  Corresponding to all of the information correctly.  When I check property COM1 resources, the station problem looks identical to the right station and no conflicts.  IRQ 04 corresponds to the current setting.  To get the workstation resurfaced to open COM1, I open COM1 properties, resource tab, uncheck and then re-check "use automatic settings" with your status to uncheck.  After having double checked the "use automatic settings", I click OK.  I then go back to see what the parameters are.  He changed his IRQ 07.  This change works until the computer has been restarted , and then the following steps must be applied again.  Also, if I perform these same steps on a workstation, I get the same results with the change IRQ.  I don't have the problem with com except COM1 ports.  We use the software in a box.  Change to use another com port is not an option.

  • Cannot open COM1. Please check your port settings

    I have some XP SP2 workstations that are used in the factory.  I use Clonezilla to reimage the workstations (Yes, we have valid licenses for all units) where you have to replace a hard drive or have warranty work that requires a new installation.  We have put arrangements in place on the specified comm ports.  The printer is connected to COM1.  When I test the appliance to make sure that all devices work, the test of the printer will not open COM1. To get the desktop put open COM1, I open COM1 properties, resource tab, uncheck and then re - check the box "Use automatic settings" without applying the Statute to uncheck.  After having double checked the "use automatic settings", I click OK.  I then go back to see what the parameters are.  He changed his IRQ 07.  This modification works until the computer has been restarted so the following steps must be applied again.  Also, if I perform these same steps on a workstation, I get the same results with the change IRQ.  I don't have the problem with comm except COM1 ports.  We use the software in a box.  Change to use a different comm port is not an option.

    It seems that the cloning process is causing the problem.  Clonezilla is fast and reliable with the exception of what seems to be a problem of comm port.  I'm looking for someone who can tell me what settings can I change to make COM1 to work without having to go through additional steps after the workstation is restarted.

    Thank you

  • Microsoft Windows cannot open corrupted atapi.sys

    original title: Microsoft Windows cannot open

    My laptop says "boot critical file c: windows/system32/drivers/atapi.sys is corrupt." ... ataport.sys is corrupt.  I can't open my laptop!

    Follow these steps to try to solve your problems of boot.

    Restore point:

    http://www.howtogeek.com/HOWTO/Windows-Vista/using-Windows-Vista-system-restore/

    Do Safe Mode system restore, if it is impossible to do in Normal Mode.

    Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

    Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

    Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

    http://www.windowsvistauserguide.com/system_restore.htm

    Read the above for a very good graph shows how backward more than 5 days in the System Restore Points by checking the correct box.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    If the system or Mode restore safe work not and you do not have a Microsoft Vista DVD, make a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:
    Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html
    Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.
    NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.
    Read all the info on the website on how to create and use:
    http://NeoSmart.net/blog/2008/Windows-Vista-recovery-disc-download/
    ISO Burner:http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html
    It's a very good Vista startup repair disk.
    You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.
    It is NOT a disc of resettlement.
    And the 32-bit is what normally comes on a computer, unless 64-bit.
  • recover my system. used to install Windows Vista. get the message cannot open the file E:\Sources\Install.wim. Also the code error 0 x 80070002
    So all this started because I tried to clean my computer to give to a friend. I tried refomatting the hard drive, but something was wrong here. After that, when I turn on the computer I get a black screen with message Bootmgr missing. I read a little inside and saw that I could download a Windows Vista recovery disk because my computer did not come with one.
    After that I downloaded and burned the ISO image to a CD, things started looking better. I got to the screen when you select the language and keyboard. Then install windows screen. My options there were 'Install now' and 'repair your computer '. When I try to install, I put in my product key that seems fine. The next message I get is "Windows cannot open the required file E:\Sources\Install.wim. The file does not exist. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. "Error code: 0 x 80070002.
    When I try to repair, he said "select an operating system to repair, and then click Next."
    Operating System: Windows Vista (TM) Home Basic (recovered)
    Partition Size: 34318 MB
    Location: (D :) ACER
    If you do not see your operating system listed, click on load drivers to load the drivers for your hard drives. I try to select Windows Vista retrieved and clicked Next, but what is said "this version of system recovery options is not compatible with the version of windows that you want to repair" or get a recovery of tools such as repair system, System Restore, complete pc windows, tool windows and command promy memory diagnostic restoration. the only problem is he says operatins system: (unknown) unknown local disk...
    Any help would be appreciated. Really want to give my friend a laptop that wont even turn on. Laughing out loud
    Was it Neosmart?
    This isn't an installation disc. It's a record of startup repair!
    You use the repair disk option, not Install.
    How to get Vista recovery Media and/or to use the Vista recovery Partition on your computer.
    There is no Vista free download legal available.
    https://secure.TX.Acer.com/rcdb/main.aspx?brand=Acer
    Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.
    Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.

    See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

    Normally, you have to press F10 or F11; Acer is in some models Alt + F10 at startup to start the recovery process...

    Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Ask them if you can also make recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.
    They will tell you how to do this.
    Every computer manufacturer has their own way of making recovery disk/s.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
    A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
    The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

    There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

    If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

  • Windows 7 cannot open com1

    I have 6 computers Toshiba Tecra all bought to use the com port to communicate with data loggers. as provided by Toshiba, they work very well, as soon as they update of windows I get the message cannot open com 1, I have a scanner and nothing else is using the port. If I uninstall the driver of RTP com and reboot it all works, but it is temporary when you restart is not open, I guess it's a windows update issue 7 and follow the procedure to install updates one at a time, but still without success. Windows 7 pro 32 bit as computers alll provided behave the same way. any suggestions?
    I tried many programs of comms and the fertile, one for the data recorders that give the same result in train to test with hyper terminal.
    All updates of drivers and bios are up-to-date Toshiba cannot but feel it should be a problem to update.

    Thanks Dave K

    Hi and thanks for the suggestion, but it's a physical series RS232 port so not concerned by the firewall.
    I solved the problem which turns out be due to an update to Adobe acrobat reassign the PDF printer to com1. Microsoft to not update as I thought.

    Dear cor - el,

    Now, I'm happy! Thank you very much.

    New tab works now. It is because of me running the first program malware that you listed above, Malwarebytes. I am grateful that you suggested it because I would not have thought that that would be the problem (because the problem occurred immediately after a MS Windows7 update.

    Anyway, thanks again for sharing your time and skills.,.

  • Cannot open the application "Mail" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported

    I work on a MacBook Pro mid 2012

    Intel Core i5 2.5 GHz

    OS X El Capitan 10.11.6

    The Mail app suddenly quit and when I tried to resume, I got this message

    "Cannot open the application"Mail"because the PowerPC applications are no longer supported."

    This also happens with the "Maps" app

    All Mac software are up to date, but "Mail" has been working fine since my last update that was awhile ago.

    I am confused to say the least. Suggestions? Thank you!

    If you do a Get Info (command - I) on Mail and Maps applications, what version numbers do you see?

    Try a reboot.

    Make a backup using Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure that data files can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

    Try to set up another admin user account to see if the same problem persists. If back to my Mac is enabled in system preferences, the guest account will not work. The intention is to see if it is specific to an account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

    Isolate a problem by using a different user account

    If the problem is still there, try to start safe mode using your usual account.  Disconnect all devices except those necessary for the test. Shut down the computer and then put it up after a 10 second wait. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the SHIFT key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. Startup is considerably slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a check for directory and disables all start-up and connection, among other things. When you restart normally, the initial restart may be slower than normal. If the system is operating normally, there may be 3rd party applications that pose a problem. Try to delete/disable the third-party applications after a reboot using the UN-Installer. For each disable/remove, you need to restart if you do them all at once.

    Safe mode - on El Capitan

    Start Mode without failure-El Capitan.
