CD/DVD drive not recognizing cds or dvds
My CD/DVD drive does not recognize all of a sudden when there is a CD or a DVD of any kind inside: music, movie or data. I have a 3 years old Dell Inspiron 600 m. I checked my device manager and it seems that I have two numbers of brands/models: Philips CD-RW/DVD SCB5265 and SCSIVAX DVD/CD-ROM-ROM SCSI CD-ROM device, but I do not know what means the name of the second, or if I've never used.
I run the custom, Diagnostic test and I was unable to run the reading test and get the test because he claims that I did not a digital inside the CD, even if I tried to put in a two burn data CD and a Dell Drivers and Utilities CD. I got an error message saying "error code: 0F00: 2874." MSG: optical drive BIST - pin test failed. »

New DVD drive not recognized on my Satellite Pro 4600
Hi all
I recently bought an engraver of DVD in NEC ND-6650 nine.
This drive is NOT recognized by my Satellite Pro 4600 at all - neither Windows 2000 nor in the BIOS (v 2.60). BIOS updates higher than the 2.60 version are not provided.
Does that mean I can forget about using the new writer in my old notebook?Thank you and best regards,
Nils
Hi Nils,
I suspect that your new drive may be not be compatible with your laptop. Like all scanners to your new drive will be configured as slave or master (or CSEL possible), and this configuration should match your laptop.
Usually your hard drive is configured as master on IDE channel 0 with optical drive is the slave on the same channel device. However, you may find that your optical drive is configured as master on the IDE 1 channel.
Normally the setting is preconfigured by the manufacturer so you will need to check both the conficuration of your new drive and the configuration of your original drive to make sure they are the same.
Kind regards

Can anyone help please?
My CD ROM / DVD Drive failed. I tried troubleshooting etc but not available. The computer does not recognize I have a CD / dvd as a player he says that is not recognized by the register?
I also have a virus that I can't get rid of, it's maybe part of the problem (Trojan horse - Spy.HTML.Smitfraud.c) I ran many viruses, spyware and trojan controls but there is no cure yet?
I tried the system recovery, but it won't let me get it back to an earlier date.
I can't use my restore disk because the computer does not recognize the drive. A catch 22 situation.
Can anyone offer any other advice that throw it out the window?Help from anyone would be much appreciated.

HI Paul,.
I think that your first priority will be to remove the virus from your laptop. The following link contains the virus details: -.
http://securityresponse.Symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/W32.Desktophijack.html
You are shown in the BIOS to CD-ROM? If yes then set to be the first selectable boot device and you should be able to load your recovery disk and restart it.

Some full scans there is our operating system to xp does not recognize our 2 dvd/cd players after a full scan, by security essentials.
We went into the control panel to check the cd/dvd drivers... and they were gone. Then we went in the 'my computer' window, and neither one of them were there either. It's like they were never there. We can somehow reset something to collect, to use?Hello
I see that the CD is missing on the computer.
- You did changes to the computer before the show?
- The computer is connected to a network?
- Is detected in Device Manager?

External CD/DVD RW drive not recognized by Windows XP
Original title: Professional. Have an advantage humbucker 16 X 8 DVD/CD RW & ATi Radeon 9550 AGP 250 M for video and VGA that is not recognized
Have a double microphone 16 X 8 DVD/CD RW advantage which is not recognized by XP Professional. Also have a CD unit and when windows installs the drivers - it gives them both the same driver. DVD RW is only recognized as a CD! Have used Microsoft fixit and he says everything is fine. -It uses the same driver for CD and DVD RW units.
Have also an ATi Radeon 9550 AGP 250 M for the video and VGA and Windows XP does not - have question marks for them in Device Manager. Microsoft fixit - did fix this problem.
Have deleted the drivers and tried to control the computer for downloads by Microsoft and it can't find them - if I do a check for hardware changes, he finds only those who do not work properly and that don't work at all, as indicated above.
Also went on the Microsoft Web site and cannot find a solution it - clicked on links with any help that I could see.
Sorry for the problem - just fusterated

CD/DVD drive not recognized by Windows Vista
I installed a suite of burningb of CD and DVD on my Toshiba (under Vista Home Premium). My CD/DVD drive appeared more in the computer and was no longer functional. I deleted the program I installed and apparently caused the problem, but it did not help. I have read through the help of Microsoft (929461, 314060) documents and used the Fix - It utility. Also unsuccessful. I discovered the response of Martin, the technical support engineer made on May 5, 2009. I followed his instructions with great success. However, my question now is this: I have still some remains of the problem left over. I get an error message at startup saying, 'InstaBurn UDF driver is not installed correctly. Run the InstaBurn installation program. ' InstaBurn is part of the suite of the copy (hotpics by Nova Development Corp.). I also have an error message of my reader DVD Toshiba saying that the DVD player does not work - although it is. I played a DVD as a test on it after that I followed the instructions above. How can I remove these error messages annoying that aren't accurate? Would appreciate any information about this minor - but annoying problem.

Bay DVD replace HARD drive not recognized by Windows
I have a 7737 with the 256 GB SSD, but I wanted more storage internally and was not too annoyed to have DVD - so I bought a caddy and replaced the optical drive with a WD Scorpio Black 750 GB drive.
When I went into administration - computer management - disk management tools, he acknowledged that the drive was there because he told me that he needed reprogramming - so I went ahead and let him. The disc quickly disappeared from the list, and I can't do anything that he can come back.
I tried to refresh, rescan the drives, restart (how can I confirm the BIOS recognizes the drive correctly, as the "SATA ODD', but Windows still refuses to acknowledge that he is here.) Device Manager displays only the SSD and scanning for hardware changes have no effect.
Maybe it's a coincidence, but now my laptop seems a touch slow, especially in the graphics... and I noticed that in the Task Manager, System interrupts now takes 10 percent of time CPU on average. I can't say that I've never noticed that before. My old Samsung laptop (which has integrated graphics rather than a dedicated card, to be honest) claims system interrupts doesn't take any time at all CPU. This seems to suggest a conflict any exist, and maybe that's why the drive is not recognized?
Because Device Manager is not see it, I can't check for updated drivers.
Because disk management can't see, I can't format / partition / assign a drive letter.
The BIOS does not let me do anything with the drive, go into properties or disable / re-enable, or something like that.
Can anyone suggest what I might have missed in the configuration, or what I can do to fix this?
Thanks in advance.
Unfortunately, I can't find a downloadable diagnosis for your laptop. Try Seatools. Seagate website has a download, that you can use to create a CD bootable or flash player to test hard drives.
I just want to see if a tool outside Windows can detect the drive and all the problems.

CD/DVD drive not recognized inside the virtual machine
No matter what I do, I can't get my VM (XP) to recognize the CD/DVD drive. I am running version 2.0.6 of merger and under Mac OS X (10.5.8) on a MacBook Pro. I did a right click on the CD icon in the lower right corner of the computer virtual window, then select 'connect' CD/DVD - I see while the disc turns black (which indicates it's supposed to be connected). I launch Windows Explorer in my virtual machine, but I do not see the CD/DVD drive listed anywhere! Help, please. I have the VM settings to connect to the physical CD/DVD (DVD-R MATSHITA UJ-875) drive. Thanks in advance.
