  I have a problem with the computer hardware. I got a Qosmio G20-117 and you have a problem with the cdrom and the screen. Got bad pixels on the screen, and cdrom does not work.   I don't think that you need to register something apart from the serial number of your laptop. But in my opinion this could also be done at the point of service.

  First of all, you are mistaken when you say that the PC does not start.

  This is clearly starting. The problem comes from Windows, not with the real PC. It's actually a very important distinction!

  There are methods to repair Windows, but they can be a bit tedious. By all means, follow the advice given here to do if you're so inclined.

  If you would not rather to repair Windows (and I think it's interesting a try) or your repair attempts are unsuccessful, apparently, you would need to use an external optical disc drive and follow the instructions here:

  I know there have been many posts on this topic before, but I have tried most of the things suggested but not managed to restore the AutoPlay on my portable computer runing Vista Home Premium SP1.

  I have a few days ago windows autoplay stopped when I inserted a CD (audio, data or a cache) and the AutoPlay options dissappeared off context menus.

  The first thing I tried was the automatic execution options in the Control Panel, these all seemed OK, but I have reset failing anyway.

  I have been using Windows 7 for a few months now, and no problems with my dvd writer Windows 7 / CDrom drive.  Both works fine up until yesterday.  When I check the drivers supplied by Device Manager they both now an exclaimation mark yellow as if Windows 7 does not recognize these devices.  I have a Samsung TSST corp CD/DVGW-SH-S182D, which is on the list of compatibility for Win7.  I have tried to download the driver from the manufactor, but still does not solve my problem.

  I wonder if everyone suddenly ran into this problem and you may have a fix.  I know that the pilots, both work with Windows 7 and I know the DVD burner because I used it before that Windows suddenly stopped to recognize the camera... Please help works, thx.

  Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both

  Check the Device Manager.  Double-click the entry for the Lite-on, and then make sure the "device status" is "this device is working properly" and that "Use of the device" is "enabled."

  If Device Manager indicates things are OK, there is probably a hardware failure.

  The start of the external USB CD/DVD drive is not possible because the BIOS does not support this. The BIOS supports booting from USB FDD (diskette).

  If you want to install Windows XP on this unit without the use of the CD/DVD drive, then you should copy the i386 to the HARD disk folder (folder i386 disk Win P is).
  Then you could start by using a boot disk and run the winnt.exe which is placed in the i386 folder.
  This would start the Windows XP installation and installation of the OS.
