Satellite A40 - boot sequence problems

Hello!

I just bought a used Toshiba Satellite A40. He had a almost crashed Windows XP is installed. I'm trying to put a new copy of Windows XP on it, but I can't boot from the CD. By pressing the done nothing F12 key and when I access BIOS (v. 1.50), I can't change the boot sequence. The only things that I can access are the date and time. Help, please!

Thanks in advance!
See you soon!

Hi moldovanvali,
long story short - long said...
-charge the battery fully
-Start computer laptop game + time and date +.
-Restart and load setup defaults + +.
-change the boot for odd sequence +, + cdrom + or similar
your system should now boot from the cd without pressing on + F12 +.

If it does not start on cd/dvd maybe the optical disk drive is not able to start...
There are many reasons for this...

BTW: without entering a date and a time when the system starts only pressing on * F1 * (most cases)

  • Key to activate the USB on Satellite M70 boot sequence

I have a Satellite M70 with Bootable USB connected on a USB key.

"After cold start if I press F2 to select the boot sequence, a" + "sign near the HARD drive may be developed (such as a directory in explorer.exe) HDD / USBdevice by pressing the"Ctrl + Enter"."

Then you can choose the HARD drive or USB key to start.
But if I press F12, I had the same pattern as before (+ HDD) but 'Enter' or 'Ctrl + Enter '.
does'nt put the HARD drive / USB stick but the boot disk HARD and Windows to start.

    My question:

After pressing F12 key support to allow a start on USBdevice?

    Thank you.

    Hello

Usually, if you use the F12 key to start up you can use up and down arrows to choose the right device and if you press ENTER the boot device will start.

In your case it doesn't start t because you cannot use USB to start but the floppy USB drive.

  • XPS 8900 and Samsung 950 PRO Boot sequence problem

I have a 8900 XPS with Windows 10. I have a Samsung NVMe 950 PRO SSD installed using a x 4 PCIe3.0 NIC - to-M.2 installed in PCIe SLOT on the XPS 8900 motherboard 3. I used Samsung cloning software to clone the OEM 1 TB HDD (immediately after you set up Windows 10 on it) for Samsung NVMe 950 PRO SSDS. Then I used the Samsung Software Wizard to install all the latest drivers.

The only way I am able to boot from the SSD PRO 950 is to detach the HARD drive (which invites a Code of error Dell # 2000-0141 or something like that... no disc HARD detected). Seeing the Dell error at startup screen, I click on 'Continue' and Windows 10 boots perfectly fine (and very, very quickly). I just used my PC this way for a few weeks now. However, I really want to take advantage of the disk of 1 TB of extra storage space.

When I plug the HARD drive and reboot, Windows 10 is loaded from disk (not the SSD) and I don't get the Dell 2000-0141 error screen. I pressed F2 or F12 at the Dell splash screen to go into BIOS to change the boot sequence, but I don't see that the SSD listed as a 'disc' or the source file for the start of Windows 10 controls... Shut down the PC, unplug the HARD drive and starting up, I get the Dell screen #2000-0141 again error (without HDD detected), click on 'Continue' and Windows 10, even once, start up normally on the SSD.

Is it possible that I can use the drive HARD without the PC automatically boot from the HARD drive?

    Thank you!

    -Tyler

First you need to download the latest driver of Samsung 950 NVMe (this is not included and is required) to you

OEM HARD drive, then clone the drive.

its about half way down the page.

Then see if you can find it in the BIOS, I pulled out my HARD drive and its in the pile of gift, all SSD for my system. I'm sure that you can remove the secure boot and startup of the PCIe SSD.

    Please report your findings

  • Satellite Pro 4600 - Boot CD problem

    Hi people,

Remember that Satellite Pro I mentioned many months ago? The one with the flashing orange?
Well, I changed the MoBo Ant that he finally turned on. But a problem arised... it does not read CD. Whenever I insert a system disk, it is said: "insert the disk in the drive system. Press any key when ready... "I have tried with the CD bootable certainly many, but nothing happens. I tried with another work MoBo but that's it. I've updated the BIOS, I have set up the boot sequence, nothing changes.
Oh, yes the cd-rom unit works for sure.

    What should I do?
    Thank you
    David

    > What should I do?
Set the default BIOS settings and try again.
HARD drive is recognized in the BIOS settings?

  • For Satellite Pro M70 boot sequence

    Issues related to the:

    1. What is the default setting for the boot to the Satellite Pro M70 sequence?

    2. What is the procedure for changing the boot during the start-up phase sequence?

    3. What is the most 'sensitive' boot sequence, with & without an attached external floppy drive?

    Thank you
    AlanCB

Well, I'm not 100% sure but I think the default start setting is:
    DISK HARD-CD/DVD-FDD-LAN
However, you can set and change parameters in the Toshiba HWSetup that is located in Control Panel.

Just FYI: by pressing a key during POST, you can choose the boot device.
    D - default system
    U USB FDD
    1 - disc HARD bed
2 - slim select bay (if available) HDD
    C - CD rom
    N - network LAN
P - PC HDD (PCMCIA) card

But these options are not always available.

  • Satellite A40-151 recovery disk problem

    Hello

    I hope someone can help.

I bascially bought this new laptop altogether earlier and until recently he works very well, but a few weeks ago the hard drive, I think that then, it happened to the extent where everything would load and then the pc would lock or it would freeze on the windows loading screen.

Now, I did a little research and from what I could gather my HDD disappeared.

I then bought a new hard drive for this the same exactually that I had same model, same brand etc and even same GB, which is 30 GB.

I placed in the new hard drive and went to install windows xp on the recovery disks, but now I get a problem it starts and tries to install the os, but about 15% in the disc stops spining and I get an error 437 that the file cannot be run or something like that.

I did something wrong? do I need to buy a whole new operating system? I hope someone can help

    Thank you for your time

If you have purchased this Satellite as new and quite while ago why you pay money for new hardware? If one of the pieces of equipment is defective warranty will cover the costs of replacement.

As far as I know that satellite A40 is old enough laptop model, and I guess that it takes more than two years. Anyway, if possible try to install the OS by CD Microsoft facilities to determine if the OS facilities can be completed. Maybe faulty recovery CD is (some scratches).

  • Strange problem with adapter on my Satellite A40

    Hello world

I bought Toshiba Satellite A40-221 more than year a go and it works perfectly. I m maybe a heavy user I have working on it in the average of 12 hours. Sometimes I work in manufacturing, especially graphics 3d next to games. last month, the lead of the charger is burned to the ground and it seems to be a shortage that has happened. I've corrected the charger several times myself, but it burns again so I sent it to a fixed workshop that he and they said they changed something inside the charger when I used it just a loud sound of it and lift it up I have not noticed before when I use any heavy program like games or 3d make things. When working on batteries could be the same sounds follows the laptop itself. The laptop works fine but this noise that I don't know it's a serious thing?

Also the charger gets very hot when I play for a long time, but when I use it on web surfing, programming, drafting... etc no heat is observed.
Have I sent to specialist Toshiba... help me please?

    Hello

In my opinion, you should be very carefully with that. As you know defective AC adapter may cause damage to your property at home and you should contact the SAV Toshiba partner in your country. I put t know where you live, but on this page, you will find a http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_gaspLocator.jsp?pf=true useful addresses

If please contact them and explain the situation very carefully.

    Good bye

  • Re: Cannot start with driver USB Satellite A40-271

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite A40-271 and there was a problem with windows and I can not start, so I decided to start with linux. I tried once with a cd and it worked perfectly, now I try with a usb flash pen and it does not work.

    Can someone help me?

    Hello

As far as I know the Satellite A40 is very old model laptop and I think that the BIOS does not support booting from a USB flash memory
I know it of possible to start the USB FDD drive

  • Re: Satellite A40 - hard drive error - will not start

My friend bought this laptop in April 2007 and has been very happy with it until about a month when he stopped startup in windows xp.

At the start, she now gets the message

"PXE - E61 media test failure - check the cable for.
"PXE - M0F outgoing intel boot agent"
    "Insert system disk in drive."
"Press a key when you are ready.

and then the laptop does not start in windows.

I thought that the hard drive can have detached, so I took it out and he handed in a State, but in vain.

I also tried to reinstall with the recovery CD but get the following error message
    status «»
GDISK (E) no such fixed disk 1 "

It is followed by * ERROR *.
    Error number 11030
    invalid message destination drive
    X;

I ran a Toshiba (or he could have Hitachi) utility disk that I burned on a cd and went up on the audit boot.

It said there are problems on Toshiba MK4025GAS, which is the hard drive. details coincide with what it actually says on the disc.

The BIOS sees the drive start on as he is listed as the master, with the cd as the secondary drive.
Therefore, is it true that the drive is broken. If so - can it be repaired or is there another solution.

I tried Googling the error message and there are conflicting messages on this issue, so your help would be very appreciated.
It seems crazy that the reader can break after only 18 months - was there a defective batch?

If that's the case Toshiba offers a replacement or it will cost a lot?

    Thank you

Post edited by: Nashy - sorry - it was bought in 2007 is NOT 2006

In your case, the HARD drive is certainly defective and you need to replace. Satellite A40 is pretty old laptop without guarantee valid and there is no replacement from Toshiba.

Just buy a new HARD drive. Hard drives for this good old classic are not more expensive.

  • Satellite A40-231: cannot burn CDs or DVDs

    Hello

I can play CDs without problem, but I can't write them and DVD. I tried with Windows XP default recorder (by Roxio as he said), Nero and Infra Recorder but still had the same problem. Combustion process begins and finishes without errors with all of this software, but when I check the contents of the CD later, I see that nothing is written there, the CD is just considered as empty, or sometimes seen with 0 MB of available space, 0 MB total space.

I tried with the CD - r, CD - RW and the DVD but I got the same problem. I have 2 389 MB free in my disk space hard as he is seen by Nero for the ability of the temporary folder that it uses.

My DVD-R /-RW is recognized by Windows XP without problem and also, I installed the latest firmware from the site Web of Toshiba.

    Here are my specifications:

    Toshiba Satellite A40-231
Toshiba DVD - ROM SD-R6112 DVD-R /-RW DRIVE Firmware Version: 1333 (latest news on the site Web of Toshiba Driver)
System dual boot: Windows XP SP2 and Linux Debian Sarge

    Hello

In the manual of Toshiba, you compatible o is a list and supported the CDs and DVDs.
You must use these mediums as they are tested and should work correctly.

    Another tip:
Go to start > run > and start recording with a command regedit

    Delete values
upperFilter and UpperFilter of this key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

I've done on my laptop and noticed some improvements

  • Satellite A10 - boot priority must be changed

    Hello world

I have an old Satellite A10 here, and I'm supposed to put a new operating system on it.
Problem: He doesn't let me boot from the CD/DVD!
In the BIOS (APCI BIOS version = 1.30), I can not change the boot priority, which is I can not put the DVD drive as the first boot device.
By pressing F12 or 'C' when you turn on the laptop don't boot options not present either.

In another thread, I read that you can change the boot device by selecting devices to boot images that can be seen under the TOSHIBA sign during the power supply of the laptop is just turned on. How do you do that? The TAB and arrow keys do not work for me...

There in the windows, the utility TOSHIBA HWSetup startmenu which is password protected. In the manual it says that you can change the priority of priming (from inside of windows!), but unfortunately the owner does not remember any password it have probably set, so I can't change the boot sequence for there either.
but in any case it must be possible to boot from the CD without access to windows, where windows no longer works...

Is there yet another possibility to use a "connector wrapping parallel haven" seeing that I don't know how its done or used?

    Who has ideas?

In addition, drivers seem to be ok and the boxes are checked in the device management, even if the optical drive has sometimes a yellow exclamation?

  • Satellite A40-151: how to enter the BIOS settings?

    Hello...

I'm on Toshiba Satellite A40-151 the DVD for this broken but this isn't worth it.
The problem is that I can't enter the setup (BIOS) to boot from a different boot device, or I do not now how to enter.

    Help, please

    thanx

    Hello

I think you have a Toshiba BIOS.
In this case you must press the ESC key immediately after the laptop has been powered. Try to press the button several times

By the way; You can also use the F12 key to get the boot menu.
Then you could easily choose your boot device
    This also works

  • Satellite A40: HARD drive no longer works

I have a Toshiba Satellite A40 with a 40 GB hard drive that was supplied as standard.
I have had absolutely no problems with it since buying it... so far.

On September 19 I left my laptop (do nothing) for a while I had to rush. I went back to the 'blue screen of death' that says I had a hardware failure and Windows were closed. It was late, so I turned off the laptop and he left until the morning.

The next morning I start the laptop. It makes a noise of terrible rattle than he ever has before. It loaded windows extremely slowly, me connected and then crashed to blue screen.

When I heard the noise, I thought it was the turbine that is blocked will cause the laptop overheating and stopping. Then I checked the fan for obstruction and dust and then cleaned the dust out of the heatsink at the back. I turned on the laptop and the sound came back.

After listening to the noise more closely, I heard that he was not coming right in front of him - the hard drive fan, but the compartment. So when I started the computer I got the Toshiba POST screen and then it would not start. I booted from the recovery CD to reformat the HD, but whenever he tries to read the HD to start re-formatting it crashes. And now, whenever I turn it on I get the message "insert system disk".

I had this problem before with another computer and everything just re-installed windows, but I have never had such a strong and terrible HD noise. I'll try to reinstall windows later today, but wanted to know if anyone else has had a similar problem and if it would be wise to replace the HD altogether. Preferabbly I want to reinstall Windows and recover files lost which unfortuently have not been saved, I typed only their place the same day.

Any comments or ideas would be very useful.
    Thank you.

    Hello

For me, the matter is very clear. According to the description of you, it sounds like a HARD disk head crash. The noise is coming from the inside of the HARD drive.
In addition, the message "Insert system disk" appears because the BIOS can not find the HARD drive or operating system.

Well, unfortunately, in my opinion it is not big thing to do. I don't think that replace drive HARD will solve this problem and allows you to reuse the laptop.

    Good luck
