  Your problem is with Canon - the manufacturer of your device.  They support (or not) as they wish.  If they choose to not have software or drivers for Windows 8 - it's on them.

  Download drivers Windows 7 (mp800win64111ej.exe) and do a right click on it and install via a compatibility mode for Windows 7.

  Here's what's happening: the black is printing if I bitmap from photoshop. If I print from another application, such as indesign or pdf, when you print a font, or even a border, the printer creates an outline around him and which prints.   The document here can help solve the black does not print on your Photosmart 6520.  Be sure to check the vents, as on the three solution.

  If this does not resolve the issue I suggest you call HP (1-800-HPINVENt to the United States, see here for details by the way).  The warranty online tool is an estimate, they will have a process of updated the status of the guarantee if necessary.

  Photo black cartridges are designed to be used, it cannot be bypassed or ignored. When printing from your computer, you can set it to print in grayscale (black ink only), meaning that it will use less of the photo in the black, but they will still get used for maintenance.   NOTE: It will use the black photo cartridge for printing black if photographic Support is selected for the type of paper or printing is set to auto or to a picture frame.

  I don't know what setting on the device could prevent color printing. Maybe something in the service mode.

  I suggest using the PCL6 driver generic Canon and set it to 'Black & White [A3]' in the device settings in the printer properties. In this way, you can provide all the features as options, drawers, etc. and the finish color option is not available.

  But if you don't have a print server, no doubt users will be able to install a driver capable of color themselves on their computer.
