  • restart of the computer from standby when I press start on the system unit, but not when a scheduled task is started

Windows XP Professional SP3, updates, motherboard Asus P4P800 series (2006). The original system dates back to 2002, but there have been many additions and replacement upgrade. More recently, 2011, two old hard drives have been replaced (XP had destroyed itself requiring a reinstallation), with a much larger and HD, and the cpu has been replaced by a 3 GHz one.

I've configured the BIOS to enable the use of standby mode (standby). I wanted to be able to run scheduled backup jobs early in the morning, a little before I wake up normally. The goal was to conserve energy. Whenever I leave the computer for more than an hour or two, I put it in sleep mode. In recent years, that it worked well.

Scheduled tasks are still, in fact, more surely than ever. But now, when I press the Start button on the system unit, the operating system is restarted rather than restore the State of the system at the time of Eve. This happened almost constantly for maybe a week. I was always a guard never enter sleep mode when I'm aware of any application running who has not completed a requested operation (save a file, defragment a disk, etc.).

I searched on the basis of knowledge, but not found any problems like that. There has been no hardware changes, no new devices; only change of important software (but it is difficult to see how it might be relevant) was the resettlement of Java Runtime Environment 6.x to support the help of OpenOffice. Although I have not checked, I am reasonably sure that all drivers are up-to-date.

No idea why this should suddenly become a problem or how to fix?

    Hello

I suggest you follow these methods and check.

Method 1: View the steps suggested in the following link.

How to solve the problems of hibernation and standby in Windows XP

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/907477

Method 2: Use the Powercfg.exe utility to restore the default power mode

You can use the Powercfg.exe utility to copy the power mode of the user by default to the currently logged user profile. You can do this because eating patterns are only related to individual user accounts. To copy the default user schema using the Powercfg.exe utility, follow these steps:

    1. click on Start, click run, type cmdand then click OK.

    2. at the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:
    powercfg /RestoreDefaultPolicies

Method 3: How to perform the check and clean boot if the problem persists.

NOTE: Once you check the functionality, follow the suggestions under steps to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state.

I have WINXP Pro s ver.2002 / SP3.  The power icon keep disappearing several times from the system tray?  I have restore but when I restart the laptop, they're gone. This also occurs in the Volume icon at the same time. Do not remember what has been loaded or were able to do.  This fine all worked until the day. Now I have to live with almost a one-time problem by sinister using the sound properties and uncheck, Power Options apply and then check, apply the box "Show icon in the taskbar".  I tried some fixes automatic Microsoft (I think) Web site but no real chance in the long term.

    Hi JayBregand,

    ·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

    ·         Who are the automatic patches from Microsoft have you tried?

Follow the suggestions below for a possible solution:

Method 1: Try to add the icon again and the Coachman. If the problem persists you can read the following article and check.

Volume icon is not displayed in the notification area, and you may receive an error message when you try to add

     http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/319095

Method 2: Create a new profile on the computer and check if the problem persists. If this is not the case, the other profile is corrupt. To create a new user profile, you can see the article mentioned below for the procedure.

  • How to remove programs from the system tray without removing them from the startup?

How to remove programs from the system tray without removing them from the startup on Windows XP folder?

    Hello

The first step is to identify the program that represents the icon and decide whether it should be in the system tray (most are not necessary). Hold the cursor of the mouse on the icon to see the name of the program that launches the icon.

The best bet is to click the icon to see if this opens the box of the program options. If so, look for a selection similar to "remove from the system tray.

Alternatively, you can hide the icons in the system tray.

    Here's how:

    1. right click on the taskbar and select "Properties".

    2. in the "Notification area" click "Hide inactive icons" if she already unchecked and then click on the button "Customize".

    3. click on the ' column next to each of your current behavior and choose one of the three behaviors for each program icon that appears in the system tray: "Hide when it is idle," "Always hide", or "always show".»

If you hide an icon, but then see it again the next time that you log on to Windows, you may need to uninstall the program to permanently remove the icon. Uninstall the program permanently removes the program from your computer. For more information, see Uninstall or change a program.

  • Date and time system continues to change each time the system starts.

I noticed that the time and date of my home PC gets changed every time the system is booted. The default date is set for Jan. 2008, when in fact it should be July 2014.

Also, my PC became slow death. I use Windows 7 on 1 GB of RAM, 250 GB PC. I used last my home PC 2 years back, but there has always been someone to use it.

It shows the OS disk to 7 GB of free, when in fact I never installed or anything unnecessary stored on the disk of BONE; Whatever unnecessary programs were there, I uninstalled them recently, keeping just a few essential ones. After uninstalling, it shows to 7 GB of free, when in fact it should be more than that.

I use Avast anti-virus, which I think is unnecessary, that its not to protect my PC and as other programs, too, is quite dead slow.

The system is infected by viruses? Manually, I checked the system for viruses and clean the system of all unnecessary and, program files, but I'm still not sure whether it is a virus or a PC problem.

I am a COMPUTER analyst, and's just done it 2 days that I use my PC at home. I could format my PC, or where applicable be buy Windows 8 with a new processor.

    Please advise.

    Thank you and best regards,

    Ralph Davidson.

    Hello

You really need a minimum of at least 2GBs of RAM to run Windows 7 well enough.

As you have only 1 GB of RAM, which seems to be one of the reasons why it is slow.

Increase the physical RAM or try ReadyBoost:

Looks like you have some problems.

Nothing in the Windows or Program Files and files their subfolders should be left alone.  You won't earn a significant amount of disk space, and you may cause to yourself untold trouble sleeping herein.  Use instead the provided Windows Disk Cleanup.  You can get to it by clicking on start-> computer, then click on the C: drive and click Properties.  On the general tab, you will see disk cleanup.  Use it and you will be safe (and not sorry).  Everything you personally placed on the computer can always be removed of course as long as you do not try to remove installed manually the software (use the programs and features in the control panel for this).

I hope this helps.  Good luck.

Well Mick, you were right.  I was somehow do a system restore (don't ask me how) and I restored it just before the problematic update.  Of course, my computer comes alive again and has helped with my password.  Well, my problem was caused by this update.  I guess I wonder why MS would send the update with this destructive power much in it?  Moreover, I have to follow my updates from that time to ensure I do not install this yet?  And I missed something valuable that the update intended to do?  Fortunately, I was able to complete the system restore before I read your email.  Your solution makes feel me better, but I did the right thing and I need to print your solution for later use.  I really appreciate your comments Mick!

    Hi Harjap,

It was that of the last changes made to the computer added as new hardware or software?

Start the computer in Safe Mode. The Windows Update tab appear? If so, we can eliminate the base as the origin of the problem drivers.

Start your computer in a clean boot. The Windows Update tab appear? If so, the problem may be caused by a software conflict.

You have another user on this coomputer account? You are able to see the update of Windows on another user account tab? If the problem does not exist in this user account, the original user account may be damaged. Follow the steps in this document to recover from a corrupted user profile.
