Change in the external editor: save JPG back and (self-) add to the library

I want to use external editing (in my case: Adobe Photoshop Elements) for the edition of the features not available in LR3 (for example: tilt) and easily record back in JPG format. The source in LR3 is a DNG image.

LR3 offers easy out-of-external-editor workflows > back to LR3 if you save as TIFF or PSD.

But I found no easy or extremely awkward sort to save the photo retouched as JPG for LR3 and organizing 'close' to the original/source-DNG (preferably bunk).

Any ideas out there?

If you save it as a JPG file, so all I know is no automated method to include the JPG PES-edited in the Lightroom library Module. I guess no automatic to do this is to save the modified file in the same folder as the original and then synchronize this folder and then create stacks.

Or, avoid anything that works and use TIFF files.

The choice is yours.

  • Need help with the changes of the library

I use Windows Vista Home Premium.  My husband recently bought & installed Office 2010 student, (we had Office 2007 and he removed) and I don't know if it was that, or some buried upgrade, but either way - photos of how open looks very different now.  Honestly, I know no more if what I used before was another version of Microsoft Photo Gallery (that I have provided with Vista and therefore changes in office should not affect) or some other MS Viewer, but it's different and I don't like the changes.   Don't really like the limits of this 'new' Photo Gallery - ESP the inability to resize the size of the photo file to make duplicates & share on networks social & other places where I don't want to use the larger file that I use in the camera.  I searched & searched and found info about Live Photo Gallery and paint, but neither really to talk about this - the ability to simply change the file size...  I know I could do a system restore and then reinstall a custom Office 2010 version, but wanted to first see if it's even WHY he has changed, and also if there is a better way to address some minor problems, but maddeningly.
    Thank you!

Office 2010 has nothing to do with changes to the photo gallery.

You can uninstall the windows live photos,.

Personally I don't see why we went in office 2007 to 2010 students unless it was Student 2007?

But you also have to change the way you receive recommended windows updates, otherwise the other photo gallery will be back.

Go to your control panel and click on windows list update, top left of the next page, click on change settings.

Uncheck the entry, give me recommended to update the same as important updates.

Also, click on the arrow down just above this list and select the check for updates, but ask me until they download and install and click Save.

After uninstalling windows live essential 2011 and the start your computer, go back to windows update and check for updates, windows live essentials 2011 will come up as an available update, right-click the update, and select hide.

  • Lightroom spoil the photos when you use the external editor

    Hello world

When I export images to an external editor, Lightroom moves the image and the copy of it at the end of the stack. This is a new phenomenon, generally the image remains in place and the copy is simply attached to it (chronological order). I use Lightroom 5.7, external editors are PSE 14 and affinity Photo. Problem with the two editors as well. No recent update, no change in the settings. Can you help me?

  • Customization of file name when you use an external editor - only one file name can be used by all editors?

I have a number of external publishers defined for my application of LR 3.3 Win7. In my preferences when I customize how an editor say, Photoshop CS5, maintains a file, I can put the name of the file edited - for example, {Filename} - ed.psd. However, if I change the name of file changed to another external editor, say to {file name} - SilverEfexPro.psd, this file name is used for all modified files externally. What I am doing wrong? Thank you!

    Dilip

    Dilip,

You do not have something wrong. The file name pattern to use is valid for all external publishers defined. This can also be seen by looking at the section, where the file name pattern can be defined (not in the section where individual editors can be configured).

  • Is it possible to import Raw files into the LR catalog...... including all changes in an external file raw editor such as Capture One?

Is it possible to import Raw files into the LR catalog...... including all changes in an external file raw editor such as Capture One?

I can import the Raw file successfully, but can't see all the changes that have been applied in Capture One. IM assuming not, but just to check.

Your assumption is correct, Capture One, Lightroom and other third party raw processors have their own exclusive process and profiles to render the raw data.

They do not make permanent changes to the raw data and save changes to a .xmp file or to a Lightroom catalog file.

  • Why save jpg to TIFF changes the number of unique colors?

I have photoshop cs2, when I save a jpg to TIFF file using default (LZW, Interleaved, with IBM PC byte order), I discovered the tif number of unique colors are distinguished by the jpg.

You can test it with this jpg image:
    https://CDN.theatlantic.com/assets/media/IMG/Mt/2015/06/rbow-1/lead_960.jpg?1435518405

If you check the jpg with the IrfanView image viewer, the number of unique color is 272662, while it is saved as tiff with photoshop cs2, the number of colors unique to the tiff file is 247160, then the number is increased from the original jpg. But sometimes, in the other case of file jpg, the number is increased. If you zoom in the tiff image, you can see that clearly some parts are like having shift artifact, or color. However if I save the jpg to tiff using IrfanView (using the default option), the number of colors unique remains same (272662).

I also found the same problem when I save the file in jpg to TIFF using microsoft paint (I use windows 7), the number of unique colors result tiff = 272802.

So my questions, represents changes in County of normal color in PS CS2?

Or is it wrong that I should avoid recording for tiff with PS CS2?

Can someone explain what's happened here?

    Thanks in advance.

Colors never change when recording in TIFF format. Colors have already been changed when the JPEG format was opened. The TIFF record is irrelevant.

    Hi Alik!

Lightroom sets the latest version of Photoshop as external editor by default. However, you can set the CC Photoshop as an additional external editor in the preferences.

You can then call it with a keyboard shortcut or via the menu.

  • How to change the external editor

How can I change the external editor, as and old version of PS to PS Elements 12?

Lightroom automatically selects the primary external editor. I believe that he will choose the PS instead of PS Elements. You can include PS Elements as an additional editor. see screen capture.

  • Why save it back unchanged PDF does change the size?

I have a client who sent me a PDF file per day. If I take the file that gave me, open in Acrobat Reader XI and re - register (without making any changes to it), the file size reduced by perhaps from 20 to 100 KB. How can I determine what is the difference between the 2 files - or what he does to make the file smaller?

I started to do this because if I didn't, my PDF processing application (Planet Press) - cannot read the file, but once I open and resave it, it works fine.

    Thoughts?

There is a default option in Acrobat to allow quick display of Web pages at check - he reorganized the internal structure of the file may change slightly the overall size.

  • I finished with the edition of an image and when I save it I don't see some of my changes in the JPEG file, why is this? :(

I tried so many times but I can't see most of my changes and I have no idea why , please help

Jpg does not support layers, transparency and other advanced features of photoshop. It's only a composite of your creation. Flattening of your layers.

When editing, I recommend always save a version that is in the psd or tiff format. Would be nothing more than to the archives. This way you can always go back and change them later if needed.

  • Lightroom CC - edition in the external editor with images located on the external hard drive problems

I have recently moved most of my image containing folders on external hard drive. In general, everything works smoothly in Lightroom (running latest CC). However, if I try to use an external editor of in Lightroom, I managed opening image in Photoshop CC if it is chosen. However, if I try to edit in a NIK Collection programs (i.e. Viveza 2) or affinity Photo I get error messages. The copy of Tiff is generated within lightroom, but at the spearhead of the external editor the following messages are met...

However, if I move the folders containing images of problem on my desktop (iMAC 27 2015) in Lightroom external editor command change... works very well. The images open with Nik Collection and Photo of affinity and save in Lightroom when save. Everyone knows about this problem? And if you have, is there a resolution?

    Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

Looks like I solved my problem with Lightroom. I disassembled my external backup drive, but upheld the disk external drive containing the photos up and then restarted my mac. After the reboot, I open Lightroom and chose the image on an external drive for mounting in affinity Photo and Collection of Nik. Both image successfully opened in editors. I reassembled the backup drive and rebooted time machine and repeated the same opening picture in external editors. Once again, works great. Have no idea where the original problem. Looks like a bad path was stored in a config somewhere file.
